A Link Between Worlds

A spiritual successor to A Link to the Past. Link gains the power to merge into walls as a 2D painting. Sage portraits are stolen by Yuga who seeks Ganon's resurrection in the parallel kingdom of Lorule. All dungeons are accessible in any order via Ravio's item rental shop.

Merge — Core Mechanic

Press A near any wall to merge into it as a flat painting. While merged, Link can slide along walls, pass through narrow gaps, cross bottomless chasms, and avoid floor hazards. Energy drains while merged — the bar refills when you exit the wall. Merging is required for all Lorule dungeons and most puzzles.

Ravio's Shop — Rent items per session (lost on death) or buy permanently (no loss). Permanently buying all items as soon as possible is the optimal strategy. Priority purchases: Bow, Tornado Rod, Fire Rod, Hookshot.

All 14 Dungeons — 7 Hyrule + 7 Lorule

Hyrule dungeons can be completed in any order. Lorule dungeons unlock after entering Lorule via the Sacred Realm crack.

H1

Eastern Palace

Bow

📍 Eastern Hyrule — first mandatory dungeon

Boss — Yuga: Yuga is a sorcerer who merges paintings into the walls. When he enters a wall, track his movement along the edges and slash when he emerges. He throws framed paintings as projectiles — dodge sideways. Second encounter: same pattern but faster with more projectile variations.

H2

House of Gales

Tornado Rod

📍 Lake Hylia — accessed via lily pad in the lake

Boss — Margomill: Margomill is a wind turbine boss. Use the Tornado Rod to launch yourself over its blades. Slam down onto the pinwheel's eye when airborne. After several hits it spins faster — time your Tornado Rod carefully to maintain height over the blade ring.

H3

Tower of Hera

Fire Rod (rented)

📍 Death Mountain summit — Flippers or Merge needed for the climb

Boss — Moldorm: Moldorm's tail is the weak point — same as Link's Awakening. Hit the tail 6 times but watch for erratic movement changes after each hit. The Tower of Hera's tilted floors make positioning tricky. Stay near the center of the room.

L1

Thieves' Hideout

Boots (stolen)

📍 Thieves' Town, Lorule — rescue Osfala

Boss — Yuga 2 / Greedy Thieves: Find the thief hiding throughout the hideout by following clues. The final boss throws enemies — avoid them and slash the boss directly. Merge through walls to bypass traps. Bombs reveal hidden passages throughout.

L2

Skull Woods

Fire Rod

📍 Skull Woods, Lorule — fragmented dungeon across the overworld

Boss — Knucklemaster: Knucklemaster is a disembodied fist. When it slams the ground use Merge on the walls to avoid the shockwave. It exposes its eye after a slam — hit the eye. In phase 2 it uses two hands alternating — wait for both to slam before striking.

L3

Swamp Palace

Hookshot

📍 Misery Mire, Lorule — requires Hookshot to navigate water chambers

Boss — Arrghus: Arrghus is a mass of tentacles around a core. Hookshot individual tentacles to rip them off and slash them. After enough tentacles are removed, the core rushes across the room — dodge and slash as it passes. Tentacles speed up respawn rate in phase 2.

L4

Turtle Rock

Ice Rod

📍 Death Mountain, Lorule — Ice Rod needed for lava puzzles

Boss — Grinexx: Grinexx is a two-headed turtle. Each head must be hit with Ice Rod to freeze it, then slashed. Frozen heads slide around the room — position carefully to not get crushed. Once both heads are frozen and damaged, the shell cracks — hit the vulnerable core before they recover.

L5

Ice Ruins

Lamp (upgraded)

📍 Lorule's frozen lake — Stamina Scroll needed for ice floors

Boss — Dharkstare: Dharkstare is an ice platform boss. Freeze it with the Ice Rod then shatter with the sword for maximum damage. It fires homing ice beams in phase 2 — dodge by Merging into nearby walls. The frozen platform tilts — maintain balance while attacking.

L6

Desert Palace

Sand Rod

📍 Misery Mire south, Lorule — Sand Rod creates platforms over quicksand

Boss — Zaganaga: Zaganaga hides under the sand. Use the Sand Rod to create walls that block its path, then hit it when it surfaces. It tracks your movement — use Sand Rod platforms defensively as barriers between you and its charge.

L7

Hyrule Castle

Master Sword (upgraded)

📍 Hyrule Castle — final dungeon

Boss — Yuga-Ganon: Yuga-Ganon Phase 1: He traps you in a painting — use your own Merge ability to escape, then dodge energy balls and slash when he's vulnerable. Phase 2: Ganon's power enhances him — reflect energy blasts back with sword strikes. Phase 3: Uses all previous abilities. Princess Zelda grants you the Triforce of Courage — use it to charge attacks for massive damage.
