Skyward Sword
The origin of all Zelda timelines. Link and Zelda descend from Skyloft — a city in the clouds — to the surface world below, forging the Master Sword and confronting the Demon King Demise. The first Zelda in the series' chronological timeline.
Combat System — Motion or Button Controls
Skyward Sword's combat requires directional sword swings. Enemies guard specific angles — you must attack from the unguarded direction. On Switch HD, button controls map directions to the right stick. Timing matters: enemies that mirror your stance require feinting before committing. The Fatal Blow (learned from Rupin) allows a finishing plunge on downed enemies.
All 7 Dungeons
Skyward Sword introduces stamina management — running, climbing, and heavy items drain a meter. Manage it throughout dungeons.
Skyview Temple
📍 Faron Woods — follow the path through the sacred trees
Boss — Ghirahim: Ghirahim Phase 1: He catches your sword if you swing predictably. Swing from angles he can't cover (above, below, or his uncovered side). He can be grabbed — use motion controls (Wii) or buttons (Switch) to snatch his arm. Phase 2: He reflects sword beams with his finger — angle your beams past his reach. 4 hits total.
Earth Temple
📍 Eldin Volcano — cross the lava fields and enter the Fire Sanctuary gate
Boss — Scaldera: Scaldera is a rock creature rolling down slopes. Bomb his open mouth to stagger him, then slash his eye. He speeds up each round. In phase 2 he throws lava rocks — dodge and counter-bomb immediately when his mouth opens at the top of the slope.
Lanayru Mining Facility
📍 Lanayru Desert — activate Timeshift Stones to restore the facility to life
Boss — Moldarach: Moldarach is a scorpion. Attack its pincers first — each pincer holds a small eye. Slash the eye in each claw from above. When both pincers are destroyed, a large eye appears on the main body. Slash from the side while avoiding the tail sting.
Ancient Cistern
📍 Faron Province, flooded area — requires water management switches
Boss — Koloktos: Koloktos is a golden automaton. Use the Whip to yank its arms off one by one. After removing enough arms, yank the exposed core. In phase 2 it stands and wields swords — Whip the arms holding the swords to disarm it, then slash the core with the dropped swords for massive damage.
Sandship
📍 Lanayru Sea — use Timeshift Stone to sail a ghost ship
Boss — Tentalus: Tentalus Phase 1: Shoot the tentacles wrapping the ship with arrows to free the path to the deck. Phase 2: A giant tentacle monster rises. Shoot its singular eye with arrows when it opens. It launches hair-tentacles that grab Link — slice them off with your sword immediately.
Fire Sanctuary
📍 Eldin Volcano summit — requires Mogma Mitts to burrow through ash passages
Boss — Ghirahim Final: Ghirahim Final has 3 phases. Phase 1: Same as Skyview — angle swings to avoid his grasp. Phase 2: He copies your attacks with his sword — fake swings to bait, then commit from an uncovered angle. Phase 3: He summons spectral swords orbiting him — use the angle of your swing to cut through gaps in his defense.
Sky Keep
📍 Floating island above Skyloft — only reachable after all 6 dungeons
Boss — No traditional boss: Sky Keep is a shifting puzzle dungeon — rooms swap positions. Collect all three Triforce shards across rearranged rooms. Each shard room uses mechanics from previous dungeons. Plan the room rearrangement order carefully: some configurations block others.
Silent Realms
Four spiritual trials where Link is stripped of all items and must collect 15 Sacred Tears. Guardian Sentinels patrol and chase on detection. Each tear restores the trial timer. Avoid water (triggers Watchers) and light beams. Completing each rewards a sacred item required for progression.
Faron Silent Realm
Region: Faron Woods · 15 Sacred Tears
Start at the southeast tear — it has a path looping back to the start. Collect tears in clusters. The rushing water channels can be crossed quickly with dashes.
Eldin Silent Realm
Region: Eldin Volcano · 15 Sacred Tears
Hardest of the four. Several tears are on lava rock platforms. Time your movements around Guardian patrol routes carefully. Hit the dig spots first to get higher ground.
Lanayru Silent Realm
Region: Lanayru Desert · 15 Sacred Tears
Use the sand slides strategically — they're fast. Tears near the mining facility require longer routes. Save the cluster near the starting zone for last so you can dash the finale.
Skyloft Silent Realm
Region: Skyloft · 15 Sacred Tears
Final and most vertically complex. Multiple levels of Skyloft are active. The tear near the Waterfall Cave requires swimming — risky. Clear the bottom level first, then ascend.
