Abandoned Mines — Depths Resource Hubs

The Depths of Hyrule contain dozens of abandoned mining outposts left behind by ancient Zonai civilization. These mines are the primary source of Zonaite, Crystallized Charges, Zonai Charges, and Large Zonai Charges — the fuel supply for all Zonai device construction. Mining the Depths is mandatory for maintaining a robust Zonai battery and building complex vehicles.

What Are Abandoned Mines?

Abandoned mines are ruined Zonai facilities scattered throughout the Depths. They appear as lit orange structures (glowing ore deposits) visible even in the near-total darkness of the Depths. Each outpost features:

  • Ore deposits (breakable with weapons or bombs)
  • Construct workers (combat optional — they drop Zonai Charges when defeated)
  • Chests containing Crystallized Charges or large material stacks
  • Steward Constructs that may trade Poe offerings for items

Key Resources Available

| Resource | How to Obtain | Use | |----------|--------------|-----| | Zonaite | Mine ore deposits with melee | Refine to Crystallized Charges at Nachoyah/Forge Constructs | | Crystallized Charge | Mine, chests, Construct drops | Expand Zonai battery (Energy Well) | | Zonai Charge | Construct drops | Instant battery refill (1 cell) | | Large Zonai Charge | Rare chests, rare Construct drops | Full battery refill | | Flux Construct Horn | Defeat Flux Constructs near mines | Fuse material — Zonai damage bonus | | Construct Bow | Defeat Soldier Constructs | 18–30 base damage bow |

Major Abandoned Mine Locations

Central Depths Mines

| Mine Name | Approx. Coords | Notable Loot | |-----------|---------------|-------------| | Hyrule Castle Depths Mine | -0295, -0819, -0480 | High ore density, 2 chests | | Lanayru Depths Mine | 2100, -2400, -0500 | Crystallized Charges chest | | Gerudo Depths Mine | -3200, -2800, -0450 | Flame Construct encounters |

Akkala Depths Mines

Located northeast — Akkala Depths has several mines clustered near lightroot corridors. The ore density is higher here than in Central Depths, making it an efficient farming location.

Eldin Depths Mines

Near the Eldin Depths Lightroot cluster. Watch for Igneo-variant enemies — bring ice arrows. The Eldin Depths mines yield more Flux Construct encounters, giving bonus Construct Horn drops.

Farming Route — Efficient Zonaite Run

For maximum Zonaite per run:

  1. Start at Hyrule Castle Depths (warp to Hyrule Castle Lightroot)
  2. Clear ore deposits in the Castle Depths mine cluster (~30–50 Zonaite)
  3. Warp to Lanayru Depths Lightroot — clear the nearby mine outpost
  4. Warp to Akkala Depths — hit 2–3 outposts in succession
  5. Warp back to surface and trade Zonaite at Nachoyah Shrine Forge Construct (or any surface Forge)

Per-run yield: 80–120 Zonaite, 5–10 Zonai Charges, 1–3 Crystallized Charges (from chests)

Blood Moon reset: Mining outpost ore deposits reset on Blood Moon — time your runs accordingly for maximum yield.

Refining Zonaite into Crystallized Charges

Forge Constructs refine Zonaite:

| Trade | Cost | |-------|------| | Crystallized Charge | 3 Zonaite | | Large Crystallized Charge | 15 Zonaite |

Forge Constructs are found:

  • Nachoyah Shrine area (easiest surface access)
  • Great Sky Island Forge (tutorial area, always accessible)
  • Multiple Depths outposts — look for the blue-tinted Construct with forge icon

Invest Crystallized Charges at Device Dispensers to expand your battery. Each Energy Well upgrade costs 100 Crystallized Charges.

Combat at Mining Outposts

Most abandoned mines are guarded by Construct Workers and Soldier Constructs. Combat is optional — you can run past most of them to mine ore. However, defeating Constructs yields:

  • Zonai Charges (always)
  • Construct materials (Horns, Bows, weapon drops)
  • Occasional Large Zonai Charge (from Captain Constructs)

Priority targets: Captain Constructs (larger, 4-5× more Zonai Charge drops, higher chance of Large Charge).

Tips

  • Brightbloom Seeds — throw them ahead of you in the Depths to reveal ore deposits from a distance. The orange glow of ore is different from the blue-white of Brightbloom — easy to distinguish.
  • Hammer fuse — a rock fused to a two-handed weapon one-shots all ore deposits with a single swing, conserving weapon durability vs repeated strikes.
  • Depths Armor — the Depths set (from Bargainer Statues) has no elemental bonus but high defense; valuable for deep Depths mining runs near Gloom-heavy zones.
  • Vertical mining — ore deposits spawn on walls and ceilings in some mines. Use Ascend or Recall (on dropped rocks) to reach elevated deposits.
  • Poe farming synergy — many mine outposts are near Poe clusters. Collect Poes while mining and trade them at Bargainer Statues for Depths equipment.
