Depths Poe Routes Guide — Efficient Farming Paths & Bargainer Statue Rewards
Poes are glowing spirit collectibles found exclusively in the Depths — the vast underground mirror of Hyrule's surface. They serve as the Depths' primary currency, exchangeable at Bargainer Statues for exclusive items unavailable anywhere else. This guide focuses on efficient route planning for serious Poe accumulation.
Quick Stats
| Stat | Value | |------|-------| | Small Poe Value | 1 Poe each | | Large Poe Value | 5 Poes each | | Bargainer Statues | 10 (one per major Depths region + Lookout Landing) | | Most Expensive Item | Dark Tunic Set piece (150 Poes each) | | Recommended Minimum | 100 Poes before first shopping run | | Total Purchasable Items | 30+ unique items across all statues |
What Are Poes?
Poes are small soul-like spirits that drift in the Depths. They appear as faint glowing orbs — small Poes are blue-white and hover in clusters, while Large Poes are yellow-orange and typically float alone near Gloom concentrations or Lightroots.
Poes do not attack Link and require no combat to collect — simply walk through them. They persist until collected and do not despawn during Blood Moons (unlike enemies). However, they do not respawn after collection unless a Blood Moon has occurred AND a specific reset condition is met (most Poes do respawn after Blood Moon, but some fixed Large Poes may not).
Bargainer Statues — What They Sell
Bargainer Statues are black stone figures found at key points in the Depths. The Lookout Landing Bargainer Statue (accessible from the surface via the Lookout Landing well) is the most accessible. All statues share the same inventory — buying from any of them counts toward total purchases.
Dark Armor Set (Exclusive to Bargainer Statues)
The Dark series is the primary reason to farm Poes:
| Item | Poe Cost | Effect | |------|----------|--------| | Dark Hood | 150 | Stealth Up | | Dark Tunic | 150 | Stealth Up | | Dark Trousers | 150 | Stealth Up | | Dark Hood (upgrade materials) | Varies | Required for armor upgrades |
The full Dark Set at Tier 2 provides the best stealth in the game, surpassing the Stealth Set from Kakariko Village for nighttime operations.
Depths Exploration Items
| Item | Poe Cost | Use | |------|----------|-----| | Poe Lantern | 30 | Permanent low light emission without Brightbloom Seeds | | Gloom Resistance Elixir (5-pack) | 40 | Essential for Gloom Hand zones | | Depths Cache Map Fragment | 25 each | Reveals hidden cache locations per region | | Zonaite Ore Bundle | 20 | Refined Zonaite for energy upgrades |
Specialty Items (Deeper Statues Only)
Some statues found deeper in the Depths sell additional items:
- Archaic series armor pieces (ancient aesthetic, moderate defense)
- Gloom-infused materials for experimental Fuse combinations
- Large Zonai Charge bundles at premium Poe costs
Efficient Poe Farming Routes
Route 1: Central Depths Corridor (Beginner — 60-80 Poes per run)
Entry point: Hyrule Castle well or any Central Hyrule chasm Time: 20-25 minutes Lightroot coverage: Moderate (activate as you go)
This route follows the Central Depths corridor directly beneath Hyrule Castle Road and Lookout Landing. Poe density is medium but the route is safe and linear.
- Enter via Lookout Landing well
- Head southwest toward the first Lightroot cluster
- Collect Poes along the main corridor (12-15 per leg)
- Loop around the Lightroot ring (activating any dark ones)
- Return via the corridor east side
The central corridor has 3-4 Large Poe clusters near the Gloom-heavy formation beneath Hyrule Castle proper. Target these first — each Large Poe cluster yields 15-20 Poes.
Route 2: Lanayru Depths Circuit (Intermediate — 120-150 Poes per run)
Entry point: Zora's Domain Chasm or Lanayru Canyon East Pass Time: 35-45 minutes Lightroot coverage: Good (multiple Lightroots in zone)
The Lanayru Depths has among the highest Poe density of any region. The underground mirrors the aquatic surface geography with Poes clustering near underground "water feature" formations.
- Drop through Zora's Domain Chasm
- Activate Nihcayam Lightroot (central Lanayru Depths Lightroot)
- Head east along the flooded Depths corridor — 20+ Poes in the shallows
- Swing north to the Akkala Depths transition — Large Poe cluster here (25 Poes in one area)
- Return south through the Lanayru Ridge Depths — another 15-20 Poes
- Exit via original chasm
Large Poe Note: The Akkala-Lanayru transition zone has the single highest density Large Poe cluster in this route. Three Large Poes (15 Poes total) float near a Gloom Hands patrol zone — eliminate the Gloom Hands first or arc around them.
Route 3: Faron Depths Sprint (Intermediate — 100-130 Poes per run)
Entry point: Faron Grasslands Chasm south of Lake Hylia Time: 30 minutes Lightroot coverage: Sparse — bring 20+ Brightbloom Seeds
Faron Depths is lightly covered by Lightroots, meaning Brightbloom Seeds are essential. However, it compensates with high Poe density near its unique fungal-column formations.
- Drop through Faron Grasslands Chasm
- Activate the nearest Lightroot (saves Brightbloom Seeds)
- Navigate to the fungal column area — Poes hover in columns here, easy to collect in sweeping passes
- Move to the coastal Depths along the Faron Sea underground cliff
- Target the two Large Poe clusters near the sea-cliff formation (10 Poes each)
- Loop back through the fungal columns on the return
Route 4: Eldin Depths Loop (Advanced — 150-200 Poes per run)
Entry point: Death Mountain Chasm or Eldin Canyon East Chasm Time: 45-55 minutes Lightroot coverage: Good but spread out Hazard: High Gloom concentration near Death Mountain Depths core
The Eldin Depths has the highest overall Poe count of any single Depths region, but the core zone near the underground Death Mountain formation is Gloom-heavy. The route requires careful Gloom management.
- Enter via Eldin Canyon East Chasm
- Collect Poes along the Eldin Canyon Depths corridor (30+ Poes, medium density)
- Activate all Lightroots in the corridor (reduces Gloom, speeds collection)
- Approach the Death Mountain Depths core — Large Poes in clusters of 3-4 here
- Sprint through the high-Gloom zone at the core using Sundelion food buff (do not linger)
- Collect 4-5 Large Poe clusters near the Igneo formation
- Exit via Death Mountain Chasm (faster return than going back east)
Gloom Warning: The Death Mountain Depths core has permanent Gloom fields. Wear Gloom-resistant armor (Depths or Zonaite armor sets) and bring 5+ Sundelion meals to restore Gloom-damaged hearts. Do not enter without preparation.
Route 5: Full Depths Grand Tour (Expert — 400-500 Poes per full loop)
Entry point: Any central chasm Time: 3-4 hours Lightroot coverage: Full (activate all as you go) Recommendation: Split across 2-3 sessions
For players committed to maxing out the Bargainer Statue shop, the Full Depths Grand Tour collects Poes from all five major Depths regions in a single extended session. Activate every Lightroot as you travel — the illumination makes return trips much faster.
Sequence: Central → Lanayru → Akkala → Eldin → Hebra → Gerudo → Faron → return Central
Each major region yields 80-120 Poes in a clean sweep. The full loop total of 400-500 covers most Bargainer Statue inventory purchases in one extended session.
Large Poe Locations — Fixed Spawns
These Large Poes (5 Poes each) appear at consistent locations on every Blood Moon reset:
| Location | Poes | Notes | |----------|------|-------| | Akkala-Lanayru Depths junction | 15 (3x) | Near Gloom Hands — clear first | | Eldin Death Mountain Depths core | 20 (4x) | High Gloom zone, bring Sundelion food | | Faron Sea Cliff underground | 10 (2x) | Easy collection, no Gloom hazard | | Gerudo Depths center formation | 15 (3x) | Lightweight route, good for quick farming | | Hebra North Depths ice formation | 10 (2x) | Cold zone — minor cold resistance needed | | Central Depths (Castle underside) | 20 (4x) | Most accessible Large Poe cluster |
Bargainer Statue Shopping Priority
First Priority: Dark Armor Set
If stealth builds matter to you, buy all three Dark Set pieces first (450 Poes total). The Dark Set is the only route to this armor — it cannot be found anywhere else in the game.
Second Priority: Poe Lantern
The Poe Lantern (30 Poes) is a quality-of-life multiplier for all future Depths runs — it eliminates the need for Brightbloom Seeds in low-Gloom zones and significantly speeds up navigation.
Third Priority: Cache Map Fragments
Buy cache map fragments for the Depths regions you farm most. They reveal hidden chests containing Zonaite, Zonai Devices, and occasionally rare armor pieces.
Skip (Usually): Zonaite Bundles
Zonaite is available in abundance from Depths ore deposits — buying it from the Bargainer Statue is rarely cost-efficient unless you are urgently upgrading energy cells.
Tips for Efficient Poe Collection
Activate Lightroots as You Go: Every Lightroot you activate makes future runs faster. Invest the first few runs in full Lightroot coverage of your main farming region.
Blood Moon Planning: Poes respawn after Blood Moon. Set up a Blood Moon campfire at your route entry point and time your runs to catch two reset cycles per session.
Gloom Hands Awareness: Large Poe clusters are often near Gloom Hands patrol zones. Either eliminate the Gloom Hands or arc around them. Running through a Gloom Hands zone to grab Poes usually results in death.
Carry Brightbloom Seeds Always: Even on well-lit routes, unexpected Lightroot-gap zones appear. Carry 20 Brightbloom Seeds minimum on any Depths run.
