Depths Shrine Guide — All 17 Shrines in the Depths
Depths Shrine Guide — All 17 Shrines
The Depths hold 17 shrines scattered across the underground layer of Hyrule. Unlike surface shrines that glow orange against the sky, Depths shrines are hidden in perpetual darkness and often require navigating Gloom pools, fighting through enemy camps, and solving environmental puzzles just to reach the entrance. This guide covers every Depths shrine location and how to approach them.
Preparation
Before heading into the Depths for shrine hunting:
- Brightbloom Seeds (50+) — throw constantly to illuminate your path. Giant Brightbloom Seeds cover larger areas.
- Sundelion dishes — the only food that restores Gloom-damaged hearts underground. Cook 1 Sundelion per dish for efficiency.
- Miner's Armor set — found in the Depths, makes Link glow and illuminates surroundings passively.
- Bow + arrows (50+) — many Depths enemies are best handled at range to avoid Gloom exposure.
- Lightroot activation — each Lightroot directly corresponds to a surface shrine. Activate nearby Lightroots first for illumination and fast travel.

Navigation Tips
- Lightroot = Shrine mirror: Every Lightroot name is a surface shrine name spelled backwards. If you know a Lightroot's location, the corresponding shrine is directly above on the surface — and vice versa.
- Follow the Gloom rivers: Gloom flows like water in the Depths. Shrines are often found at the edges of Gloom pools where the ground is still safe.
- Listen for the shrine chime: Even in darkness, shrines emit their distinctive musical chime when you're within ~50 meters. Turn up your volume.
- Abandoned Mines as landmarks: The major Abandoned Mines are the best fast-travel hubs for reaching Depths shrines. Most shrines are within walking distance of a mine.
- Ascend after completing a shrine: After collecting your Light of Blessing, use Ascend inside the shrine to potentially emerge on the surface near a Lightroot or point of interest.
Depths-Specific Hazards
- Gloom pools drain your maximum hearts on contact. Jump over them, build bridges with Ultrahand, or use Mineru's mech to walk through safely.
- Gloom Hands spawn near some shrine entrances — kill all hands quickly or they merge into Phantom Ganon.
- Frox guard several shrine entrances. Throw Brightbloom Seeds in their mouth when they inhale, then climb and smash the ore deposit on their back.
- Yiga Clan patrols are common near Depths shrines. They disguise as travelers — watch for NPCs that seem out of place underground.
