Desert Voe Armor Guide — Gerudo Secret Club & Heat Resistance
Desert Voe Armor Guide — Heat Resistance for the Gerudo Desert
The Desert Voe Armor is TotK's heat resistance set — sold at the Gerudo Secret Club, a hidden shop inside Gerudo Town accessible only after learning the password. The desert deals constant heat damage without it. This guide covers finding the Secret Club, buying the armor, and what the Shock Resistance set bonus does.
Where to Buy Desert Voe Armor
Shop: Gerudo Secret Club (hidden shop inside Gerudo Town)
Getting the Password
The Secret Club is not advertised. To find it:
- Enter Gerudo Town (requires Voe disguise — see Gerudo Guide)
- Find the gossip source — speak with the women at the bar area inside the town
- Eavesdrop or ask the right NPCs — someone mentions the password in conversation
- Password: Typically involves a phrase about "sand" — it changes between playthroughs but is discoverable via NPC dialogue in the town
Alternatively: The password is hinted in a visible poster or overheard conversation near the bar. Look for written text on the wall near the closed shop door.
Shop Location
Once you have the password:
- The shop is a door in the east section of Gerudo Town
- Knock and use the password
- The shopkeeper lets you in
| Piece | Cost | |-------|------| | Desert Voe Spaulder (head) | 450 rupees | | Desert Voe Trousers | 550 rupees | | Desert Voe Headband | 300 rupees | | Full set | 1,300 rupees |
Heat Resistance Levels
Gerudo Desert heat damage requires:
| Heat Level | Coverage | |-----------|----------| | Level 1 (1 piece) | Mild heat zones (Gerudo approach roads) | | Level 2 (2 pieces) | Open desert daytime | | Level 3 (full set or set ★★) | Deep desert, lightning storms, midday heat peak |
Chilly food supplement:
- Chilly food (Hydromelon, Cool Safflina, Chilly Pepper) adds temporary heat resistance
- Combine 1-2 Desert Voe pieces + Chilly food = coverage before buying the full set
Cold Darner Elixir (Chilly Elixir): Cold Darner critter + monster part = Chilly Elixir. Good bridge before purchasing the full armor set.
Set Bonus — Shock Resistance
At ★★ (all 3 pieces upgraded to ★★):
- Shock Resistance — reduces electric damage, prevents knockback from electric attacks
Why this matters in the desert:
- Gerudo Desert has frequent lightning storms (all metal weapons must be dropped or sheathed)
- Molduga fights involve shockwaves
- Lightning Temple has electric floor hazards
Stacking: Shock Resistance from Desert Voe set bonus stacks with Electro Elixirs — highly effective combination for the Lightning Temple.
Upgrade Materials
Great Fairy required.
| Level | Materials per piece | |-------|-------------------| | ★ | 3× Chuchu Jelly, 3× Molduga Fin | | ★★ | 3× Yellow Chuchu Jelly, 3× Electric Keese Wing | | ★★★ | 4× Electric Lizalfos Horn, 4× Yellow Lizalfos Horn | | ★★★★ | 4× Molduga Guts, 4× Thunder Gleeok Horn |
Molduga Fin/Guts: Dropped by Molduga (giant sand shark enemies in Gerudo Desert). Multiple Molduga locations in the deep desert — fixed spawn points. See the Gerudo Guide for Molduga locations.
Desert Voe vs Cooling Alternatives
| Option | Heat Coverage | Notes | |--------|--------------|-------| | 1× Desert Voe piece | Level 1 | Cheapest entry (300r Headband) | | 2× Desert Voe pieces | Level 2 | Good for normal desert travel | | Full Desert Voe set ★★ | Level 3 + Shock | Complete desert protection | | Chilly Elixir (1 use) | Level 1 | 5-10 min — accessible early | | Chilly food (Hydromelon) | Level 1 | Common fruit, easy to cook |
Best approach: Buy the Headband (300r) first for basic coverage → explore the desert with Chilly food supplement → buy the rest once you have funds.
Desert Voe vs Radiant Armor
Radiant Armor is also available in the Gerudo area (from Cara Orah the fashion designer — different quest):
- Radiant Armor gives Gloom Resistance + a glow effect
- Does NOT give heat resistance
- Different set entirely — don't confuse them
Desert Voe = heat resistance. Radiant = Gloom resistance. They serve different purposes.
Quick Tips
- Find the password before exploring — eavesdrop on NPCs inside Gerudo Town during your first visit. The password conversation triggers naturally if you explore the bar area.
- Headband first (300r) — cheapest piece, gives the first level of heat resistance. Pair it with Chilly food to survive most of the open desert.
- Shock Resistance set bonus = Lightning Temple prep — before entering the Lightning Temple, get the Desert Voe set to ★★. The shock resistance dramatically reduces electric floor hazard damage.
- Hydromelons grow nearby — Hydromelons are the main Chilly food ingredient and grow wild in the Gerudo region. Supplement Desert Voe armor with Hydromelon dishes until you can afford the full set.
- Molduga drops for upgrades — the ★ upgrade needs Molduga Fins. Molduga fight: stand on a rock (they can't reach you), throw a bomb to stun them when they surface, then attack. Farmable and safe once you know the pattern.
