Diamond Farming Guide — Best Locations, Mining Routes & Sell Value
Diamond Farming Guide — Maximum Gem Value
Diamonds are TotK's most valuable mineral — selling for 500 rupees each, used in high-tier armor upgrades, and needed for Master Sword durability restoration. This guide covers every reliable diamond source and the most efficient farming routes.
Diamond Uses
Rupee value: 500 rupees per diamond (highest value gem in TotK)
Armor upgrades: Several ★★★★ armor upgrades require 1–3 diamonds per piece
Master Sword: Consumes Link's battery to charge; diamonds can be offered at certain shrines for powerful effects (in specific shrine challenges)
Fuse value: Diamonds can be fused to weapons for +25 attack bonus — high value but usually better to sell unless you have excess
Ore Deposit Mining
Diamond ore deposits appear in the same locations as other gems but are rarer (lower spawn probability per deposit).
Best regions for diamonds:
Eldin Region (Highest Diamond Rate)
Eldin's volcanic geology produces more high-tier gems including diamonds:
- Death Mountain: Rock deposits along the summit path → highest diamond density
- Eldin Canyon walls: Deposits embedded in the volcanic rock face
- Eldin Bridge area: Multiple deposits on the bridge approach cliff faces
Tip: Flamebreaker Armor required. Death Mountain deposits are the most reliable surface diamond source.
Akkala Highlands
Highland ore clusters in northeast Akkala:
- Along the Akkala Citadel walls
- Near the Ancient Tech Lab cliff faces
- Northwest Akkala plateau (high-altitude deposits)
Diamond density: Lower than Eldin but still consistent.
Lanayru Mountains (Mountain Peaks)
High-altitude Lanayru peaks:
- Mount Lanayru summit approach
- Ice cave walls in the upper sections
- Near the Lanayru Promenade area
Cold resistance required.
Hebra Peaks (Sparse but Reliable)
North Hebra mountain peaks:
- Diamond deposits embedded in the snowfield clifftops
- Higher altitude = better gem quality
- Combined with Ice Keese farming in the same caves
Talus Farming — Diamond Drops
Luminous Stone Talus and Rare Talus (Gold/Diamond) variants drop diamonds or embedded gems:
Luminous Stone Talus
Found throughout Hyrule (glowing blue stone construct):
- Always drops Luminous Stones (useful for Lightroots in Depths)
- Occasionally drops a diamond embedded in its body
- 20–30% diamond drop rate
Best Luminous Talus locations:
- Akkala (3 locations)
- Eldin Canyon lower areas
- Necluda (2 locations)
Gold Talus (Rare)
Gold Talus is a rare Talus variant that specifically drops gems including diamonds:
- Located in specific locations (Akkala, Faron, Eldin)
- Guaranteed diamond drop (1–2 per kill)
- Blood Moon reset
Gold Talus combat:
- Same weak point as regular Talus (ore crystal on top)
- Grabs surrounding gold deposits as additional armor
- Must destroy gold deposits to reveal the core crystal
- Arrows to crystal after gold removal → stagger → melee crystal
Depths Diamond Deposits
The Depths has ore deposits richer than most surface locations:
Best Depths diamond spots:
- Eldin Depths equivalent (directly below Death Mountain)
- Akkala Depths (under the Citadel area)
- Depths near major Lightroots in volcanic-adjacent zones
Depths mining strategy:
- Activate Lightroots in the Eldin Depths zone
- Farm all ore deposits visible within the illuminated area
- Mine everything (diamond, zonaite, other gems)
- Fast travel to surface → return after Blood Moon
Blood Moon Farming Cycle
Ore deposits reset on Blood Moon — optimal diamond loop:
- Clear all diamond deposits in Eldin Canyon area (20–30 minutes)
- Do other activities (Blood Moon takes 7–8 in-game days)
- Blood Moon resets all deposits → return → clear again
Yield per cycle: 3–8 diamonds from a full Eldin mining sweep.
Force Blood Moon: Sleep at inn repeatedly to accelerate the cycle if you need diamonds urgently.
Rupee Optimization
Selling strategy:
- Sell diamonds when you have more than 5 (keep 3–5 for armor upgrades)
- At 500 rupees each, 5 diamonds = 2,500 rupees → significant cash
- Alternative: sell Topaz and Ruby for rupees; keep diamonds for upgrades
Most rupee-efficient gem: Diamond (500r) > Sapphire (260r) > Ruby (210r) > Topaz (180r) > Opal (60r)
Diamond from combat: Some rare chests contain diamonds. Check chests in Sky Island ruins, Hyrule Castle, and Depths forge areas.
Quick Tips
- Eldin canyon mining is the primary farm — Death Mountain's deposits consistently produce diamonds more often than any other surface region. Flamebreaker Armor + a full Eldin canyon sweep yields 3–6 diamonds per Blood Moon cycle.
- Gold Talus = guaranteed drop — each Gold Talus drops 1–2 diamonds per kill. Find and mark all Gold Talus locations. With 4–5 Talus locations farmed per Blood Moon, that's 4–10 diamonds per cycle from Talus alone.
- Depths deposits are denser — the Eldin Depths equivalent has richer ore deposits than the surface. Once you have reliable Depths navigation (Lightroots + Gloom protection), farm the underground Eldin zone for higher diamond yield.
- Keep 5 diamonds in reserve — late-game armor upgrades require diamonds. Don't sell everything. Stock builds naturally through farming; sell the excess above 5.
- Diamond fuse vs. sell — fusing a diamond to a weapon gives +25 attack, which is excellent. But 500 rupees can buy food, arrows, and other supplies that might give more net combat value. Unless you have 10+ diamonds, sell rather than fuse.
