Eventide Island — Tears of the Kingdom Guide

Eventide Island returns in Tears of the Kingdom as a remote island in the Faron Sea, southeast of the Faron region's coastline. In BotW, Eventide was famous for its challenging survival mission where Link was stripped of all items. In TotK, Eventide Island is a more straightforward exploration zone — but still contains a Hinox boss, multiple treasure chests, a shrine, and some of the most scenic ocean vistas in the game.

Location and Access

Coordinates: (4623, -3478, 0003)

Eventide Island is located in the far southeast of the map, accessible from:

  • Lurelin Village — paraglide southeast from the village coastline, approximately 1.5km over open ocean
  • Faron Sea Sky Islands — Sky Islands above the Faron Sea provide a high-altitude launch for the ocean crossing
  • Raft construction — build a fan-powered raft at Lurelin's shore for a surface-level approach
  • Fast travel — once you've activated the shrine on the island, you can fast travel directly

Important: The ocean crossing is long. Ensure you have full stamina, Tulin's wind gust ability, or a Zonai glider before attempting. Falling into the ocean means starting the approach over. A hoverbike built at Lurelin's shore is the most reliable vehicle.

Differences from BotW

| Feature | BotW | TotK | |---------|------|------| | Items stripped | Yes — survival challenge | No — full inventory | | Hinox | Yes — on the beach | Yes — stronger variant | | Main quest | Retrieve stolen orbs | Exploration + shrine | | Difficulty | Hard (no items) | Moderate (full kit) | | Korok Seeds | 2-3 | Multiple | | Shrine | No (was BotW quest reward) | Yes — Shrine of Light |

The Shrine: Cliffside Shrine

The shrine on Eventide Island is located on the island's west cliff face at approximately elevation 80 meters. To reach it:

  1. Land on the island's north beach
  2. Climb or Ascend the western cliff face
  3. The shrine entrance is visible from the cliff midpoint

The shrine itself is a combat trial with a single Construct guard and two waves of Soldier Constructs. Standard combat — defeat all enemies to access the altar and collect the Light of Blessing.

The Hinox: Blue Hinox of Eventide

A Blue Hinox sleeps on the island's central beach, surrounded by several treasure chests hanging from necklace chains.

Hinox stats:

  • Health: ~2400 HP (Blue tier)
  • Attack: Thrown boulders, leg sweep
  • Weak point: The eye (Z-target, then arrow headshot)

Strategy:

  1. Open with 3-4 arrow shots to the eye while the Hinox sleeps — gets 3-4 free stagger hits before it wakes
  2. When awake, Z-target the eye and fire arrows to stagger it periodically
  3. During stagger: approach and land 4-6 melee hits before it recovers
  4. Dodge leg sweep attacks by jumping backward
  5. Defeat yields: Hinox Toenail, Hinox Tooth, Hinox Guts

Hinox necklace chests (dropped when defeated or cut loose with Ultrahand):

  • Royal Claymore
  • Silver Bokoblin Horn x3
  • Opal gem
  • Knight's Shield

Treasure Chests

| Chest | Contents | Location | |-------|----------|----------| | North beach chest | Amber x2 | Partially buried in sand | | Cliff alcove chest | Royal Bow | West cliff, requires climbing | | Ruins chest | Ancient Blade | Southeast ruins structure | | Underwater chest | Opal | Shallow water near Hinox beach | | Hinox necklace (x3) | Various weapons | Removed from Hinox on defeat |

Korok Seeds

Multiple Korok Seeds are hidden on Eventide Island:

  • Rock formation puzzle — move the misplaced rock to match the pattern near the ruins
  • Flower chase — yellow flower appears near the north beach, follow its movement to complete
  • Balloon target — a balloon near the cliff summit; pop it with an arrow
  • Hidden pinwheel — activate pinwheel at island peak, balloons appear in sequence

Exploration Notes

Eventide Island has distinct environmental storytelling — the ruins of ancient structures suggest this was once a Zonai outpost or observation post watching the Faron Sea. Several Zonai architectural elements are present but non-functional, and Zonai glyphs on the cliff walls hint at a pre-Calamity purpose the game never explicitly explains. Players who read environmental details will find Eventide one of the more mysterious locations in TotK's world.

Bubbulfrog: One Bubbulfrog spawns inside a cave on the island's east side at night. Collect its Bubbul Gem before leaving.

Tips

  • Build a hoverbike at Lurelin Village before the crossing — it's the most reliable transport over open ocean
  • The Hinox can be fully defeated with arrows if you have enough — eye shots deal significant damage and are safe
  • The shrine is missable on first visit if you head straight to the Hinox — climb the west cliff first to activate the fast travel point
  • Night visit is worth it for the Bubbulfrog cave and the ocean moonrise visuals
  • Eventide Island's isolation makes it a good hunting ground — no random encounters interrupt the beach exploration
