Gerudo Depths Guide

The Gerudo Depths lies beneath the Gerudo Desert and Gerudo Highlands — a harsh underground zone with electrical lightning hazards and Gibdo tunnel systems left from the Gerudo crisis. The Gerudo Depths is more dangerous than Necluda or Faron Depths but offers exceptional resources including Topaz deposits, rare Gibdo material drops, and one of the highest Flux Construct concentrations of any region.

Preparation

| Gear | Why | |------|-----| | Desert Voe Spaulder + Trousers | Electricity Resistance — mandatory for lightning zones | | Bomb Arrows | Best counter for Gibdo swarms | | Fire Arrows | Gibdo weakness — faster than ice | | Riju's Thunder | Sage ability; turns Gibdo encounters trivial | | Ice Arrows | Alternate Gibdo counter |

Entry Points

| Chasm | Surface Location | Notes | |-------|-----------------|-------| | Gerudo Desert Chasm | Central desert | Main entry | | Gerudo Canyon Chasm | Gerudo Canyon road | Western access | | Gerudo Highlands Chasm | High Gerudo Highlands | Elevated entry, drops near Highlands lightroot | | Kara Kara Bazaar Chasm | Near Kara Kara Bazaar | Northern approach |

Lightroots

| Lightroot | Zone | Hazard Level | |-----------|------|-------------| | Gerudo Desert L1 | Central zone | Medium (Gibdos) | | Gerudo Desert L2 | Near Molduking territory | Low | | Gerudo Highlands L1 | Northern highlands mirror | Low | | Gerudo Highlands L2 | Deep highlands | Medium (lightning) | | Gerudo Canyon Lightroot | Canyon zone | Low | | West Gerudo Lightroot | Far west | High (Gibdo hive nearby) | | Arbiter's Grounds Mirror | Ruins beneath desert | Medium |

Gibdo Hive Tunnels

A unique feature of the Gerudo Depths — the Gibdo hive tunnel network extends underground from the surface Gibdo nest location. These tunnels connect multiple lightroot zones and contain dense Gibdo swarms.

Inside the hive tunnels:

  • 6–12 Gibdos per chamber (including flying variants)
  • Gibdo Queen spawn point (respawns after Blood Moon)
  • Rich Gibdo material drops (Gibdo Bone, Gibdo Wing — excellent fuse materials)
  • Large Poes near the Queen spawn zone

Hive navigation strategy:

  1. Enter from the Central Desert lightroot corridor
  2. Use Riju's Thunder ability on cooldown — it hits entire groups of Gibdos simultaneously
  3. Keep moving forward — standing still lets Gibdos swarm
  4. The hive center has a large chamber with the respawning Gibdo Queen — bring full bomb arrows

Lightning Hazard Zones

The Gerudo Highlands Depths sections have active lightning discharge zones — ambient electricity in the rock itself that strikes periodically.

Safety protocol:

  • Wear Desert Voe Spaulder + Trousers for Electricity Resistance 2 (prevents knockdown)
  • Do NOT equip metal weapons or shields in lightning zones — they attract strikes
  • Fuse wooden weapons with non-metal materials for the Gerudo Depths run
  • Stay out of standing water pools in lightning zones (amplifies damage)

Mining Highlights

| Outpost | Yield | Special | |---------|-------|---------| | Central Desert outpost | 12–18 Zonaite | Near L1 | | Highlands outpost | 10–15 Zonaite + Topaz | Best gem source | | Canyon outpost | 8–12 Zonaite | Safe, low enemy density | | Arbiter's Ruins mine | 6–10 Zonaite | Historically significant location |

Special resource: Topaz is significantly more common in Gerudo Depths ore deposits than anywhere else in the game. Topaz is required for Desert Voe armor upgrades (the armor you wear to survive this very region). Farm Topaz here for a complete Desert Voe upgrade path.

Arbiter's Grounds Mirror

The ancient Arbiter's Grounds (from Twilight Princess lore) has its underground mirror visible in the Gerudo Depths. The area contains:

  • Ancient Gerudo architecture
  • Multiple Medium Poes in the ruins
  • A locked chest (requires Bomb Arrow detonation to open) with Crystallized Charges
  • Lore tablets about ancient Gerudo judgment traditions

Tips

  • Riju's sage ability is your primary weapon in the Gibdo hive — don't save it; use it every cooldown
  • Fire Fruit arrows are sufficient against Gibdos if you're running low on Fire Arrows
  • Lightning strike warning: a sparking sound effect precedes Gerudo Depths lightning strikes by ~1.5 seconds — dive and roll when you hear it
  • Topaz priority: stock up on Topaz here before attempting to fully upgrade Desert Voe armor — it takes 30+ Topaz for the full set to ★★
  • Don't skip the Highlands lightroot — it activates a large section of the Gerudo surface map and is worth the extra traversal time
