Gerudo Town Complete Guide — Tears of the Kingdom

Gerudo Town is the matriarchal desert capital in southwest Hyrule — the seat of the Gerudo people and hub for the Lightning Temple main quest. In TotK, Gerudo Town faces a terrifying crisis: Gibdo monsters have invaded from the underground, the town is barricaded, and Chief Riju is organizing the resistance. Entering the town requires a disguise (male visitors are forbidden) and navigating through the sandstorm-covered approach.

Getting to Gerudo Town

Route: From Lookout Landing → west through Hyrule Ridge → south through Gerudo Canyon → west across the desert to Gerudo Town.

Sandstorm zone: The central desert has a massive sandstorm that obscures the map. Two navigation options:

1. Lightning Helm: Obtained from "The Missing Owner" side quest at Kara Kara Bazaar. Allows free movement through the sandstorm.
2. Aerial approach: Fly above the sandstorm layer (600m+ altitude) with the Paraglider — visibility above the clouds is clear.

Kara Kara Bazaar is the last checkpoint before Gerudo Town — stock up on Heat Resist Elixirs here (sold by a merchant, 80 rupees each).

The Disguise — Entering Gerudo Town

Gerudo Town forbids male visitors. To enter, Link needs the Gerudo Veil disguise:

How to get it:

1. Approach Gerudo Town — guards will stop Link
2. Speak to a Gerudo outside who mentions "a man in disguise" in Kara Kara Bazaar
3. Find Bozai at Kara Kara Bazaar — he's wearing the disguise and will offer to trade
4. Complete Bozai's two-part quest (involving sand boots) to receive the disguise
5. Equip the Gerudo Veil headpiece to enter town

Alternative: Wear the full Gerudo Vai Armor set (purchased from Gerudo Town's secret shop — requires entering once via Bozai's route or a disguise from another source).

Riju Questline — Main Quest

Chief Riju is managing the Gibdo crisis from Gerudo Town's central throne room. The Gibdo invasion began when a massive sandstorm appeared above the town and Gibdos emerged from underground.

Quest chain:

1. Speak to Riju in the throne room — she briefs Link on the Gibdo crisis
2. The Gibdo hive is underground — access via the secret shop passage below Gerudo Town
3. Clear the underground Gibdo hive sections while Riju fires lightning strikes
4. Riju joins Link to access the Lightning Temple (floating above the sandstorm)
5. Clear the Lightning Temple, defeat Queen Gibdo

Riju Sage Unlock

After the Lightning Temple, Riju of Gerudo becomes Link's sage companion.

Riju's Lightning Strike: Riju charges a lightning bolt and fires it when Link attacks with a weapon inside her electric ring. Extremely powerful — the lightning strike is the strongest single-hit sage ability in the game.

Activation: Riju automatically generates an electric ring around her position. Strike enemies inside the ring to trigger her lightning enhancement. Maximum power on wet enemies (electric damage doubles on wet targets).

Combat applications:

• Best against Silver Lynels (stand inside Riju ring, attack — massive damage amplification)
• Thunder Gibdo instant-kill (charge + Riju's lightning = one-shot on standard Gibdos)
• Wet enemies (throw water capsule) + Riju ring = chain lightning between enemy clusters

Desert Voe Armor — Heat Resistance Set

The Desert Voe Armor is the primary heat resistance set for Gerudo Desert. Sold at Gerudo Town's Secret Shop (underground).

1. Complete the "The Secret Club's Secret" side quest — speak to a woman peeking into a door near the central Gerudo square
2. The door requires a password — learn it from eavesdropping on Gerudo gossiping near the bazaar
3. The shop entrance is behind a barrel in the inn

Location: Southeast of Gerudo Town at the sand seal stables Cost: 20 rupees to rent a sand seal Use: Sand seals dramatically speed up desert surface travel — hold the shield and let the seal pull Link across the sand (like a sandboard)

Best use: Rent a sand seal to reach the Molduga bosses in the desert or to quickly navigate to the Gerudo Canyon approach without losing heat-resist elixir duration.
