Hasty Food Guide — Moving Faster Across Hyrule

Hasty food increases Link's movement speed for a duration — useful for covering ground faster on foot, escaping difficult situations, and reaching objectives quickly. While TotK has many faster traversal methods (Skyview Towers, horse riding, Tulin's Gust), Hasty food fills specific gaps: indoor areas where mounts can't go, Blood Moon sprints, arena repositioning, and dungeon exploration. This guide covers the best Hasty ingredients and when speed food is worth using.

What Hasty (Speed Up) Food Does

Hasty food adds Movement Speed Up for a set duration:

  • Speed Up Level 1: ~20% movement speed increase
  • Speed Up Level 2: ~30% movement speed increase
  • Speed Up Level 3: ~40% movement speed increase (maximum)

The speed boost applies to walking and running on foot. It does not affect swimming speed (that's a separate buff from Zora Armor), climbing speed (Climbing Armor handles that), or paragliding.

Best Hasty Ingredients

Foods (Cook into Hasty Meals)

Hightail Lizard (Speed +2)

  • The most efficient Speed Up food ingredient
  • Where to find: Rocky hillsides in warm areas — Necluda, Eldin Canyon base, Akkala lower regions. They're the fast-moving light-colored lizards that dart between rocks.
  • Catching tip: Crouch-walk slowly or shoot with arrows from a distance
  • 5 Hightail Lizards = Speed Up Level 3

Fleet-Lotus Seeds (Speed +1)

  • Seeds from the Fleet Lotus plant found in Lanayru wetlands and Zora's Domain rivers
  • Moderate potency — use as filler

Swift Violet (Speed +1)

  • Purple flower found in highland meadows — Hyrule Ridge, Lanayru highlands
  • Less common but solid filler ingredient

Swift Carrot (Speed +1)

  • Carrot found in Kakariko Village's farm and some village gardens
  • Early-game speed ingredient before lizards become available

Best Hasty Recipes

Maximum Speed Meal

5x Hightail Lizard

  • Yields: Speed Up Level 3, ~3:00–5:00 duration
  • Fastest achievable movement for the duration
  • Use for: sprint traversal across open maps, Blood Moon panic sprints

3x Hightail Lizard + 2x Swift Violet

  • Yields: Speed Up Level 3, slightly extended duration
  • More balanced recipe when you have extras of both

Extended Duration Speed Meal

3x Hightail Lizard + 1x Swift Violet + 1x Dinraal's Scale

  • Yields: Speed Up Level 3, ~8:00–10:00 duration (dragon scale extends duration)
  • Better for longer traversal sessions

Budget Speed Meal (Early Game)

3x Swift Carrot + 2x Swift Violet

  • Yields: Speed Up Level 1, ~4:00 duration
  • Available from Kakariko Village before you have lizards
  • Weak but functional for early game exploration

3x Hightail Lizard (minimum speed stack)

  • Yields: Speed Up Level 2, ~3:00 duration
  • Workable with partial ingredient supply

When Hasty Food Is Worth Using

1. Dungeon Navigation

Inside temples and buildings where you can't ride horses or use Skyview Towers, Hasty food provides the only movement speed increase. Moving ~40% faster through puzzle rooms is meaningful in long temples.

2. Sludge and Slow Terrain

In the Mucktorok fight (Water Temple), sludge on the arena floor slows your movement. Speed Up food counteracts the slow effect, helping you reposition faster for water shield purification.

Similarly, in Gloom-covered Depths areas, Speed Up helps maintain mobility when Gloom trails are spreading.

3. Blood Moon Optimization

During Blood Moon farming runs, Hasty food between kills reduces transit time and lets you chain more enemy encounters per cycle. Combined with fast-travel, it noticeably improves farming efficiency.

4. Horse Chase

When trying to catch a specific horse that keeps running, Speed Up Level 3 lets Link run at near-horse-speed for short bursts — enough to close the gap and mount.

5. Early Game Before Horse / Sky Access

In the first few hours before you have a horse or Skyview Tower access, Hasty food is the fastest movement available. A few Hightail Lizard meals can cut exploration time significantly.

Hasty Food vs. Horse and Sky Travel

Hasty food is never better than a horse or sky traversal for open-world travel. The hierarchy:

  1. Best: Skyview Tower launch + paraglider (covers huge distances)
  2. Great: Horse (fast, stamina-independent, carries you across Hyrule)
  3. Good: Tulin's Gust (for lateral air repositioning)
  4. Situational: Hasty food (for foot travel only, interiors, specific situations)

Conclusion: Stock a few Hasty meals for specific use cases, but don't invest heavily in speed food as your primary traversal strategy. Horses and sky islands are better.

Hightail Lizard Farming

Efficient Hightail Lizard farming:

  1. Necluda hillside route: Start at Dueling Peaks Stable, walk east along the hillside between the twin peaks. Lizards spawn in clusters on the rocky slopes.

  2. Eldin Canyon lower trail: Below the Eldin Tower, warm rocky areas have dense lizard spawns mixed with Fireproof Lizards.

  3. Blood Moon respawn: All wild critters respawn. Run the same route after every Blood Moon for consistent lizard supply.

Tip: Crouch before entering any lizard area to avoid scattering them. A single non-crouched step scatters the entire group. Take your time and approach each cluster carefully.
