Hebra Mountains — Complete Guide

The Hebra Mountains are TotK's coldest region — a vast frozen wilderness surrounding Rito Village and the Wind Temple. Characterized by howling blizzards, hidden ice caves, and Frost Talus minibosses, Hebra demands preparation but rewards exploration with excellent Sapphire deposits, the Snowquill Armor set, and access to the Wind Temple.

Before You Go — Cold Resistance

Hebra's upper peaks deal constant cold damage without protection. Options:

Option 1: Snowquill Armor (recommended)

  • Buy at Rito Village armor shop: 600 Rupees per piece (1,800R total)
  • Two pieces covers mid-altitude cold damage
  • Full set bonus: Unfreeze — negates the ice-freeze effect from Blizzroba attacks

Option 2: Spicy Meals

  • Cook Spicy Pepper (grows in warm areas) + any food for Spicy food
  • Level 2 Spicy from 2+ Spicy Peppers: covers all but the highest Hebra peaks

Option 3: Warm Doublet

  • Basic warm clothing from early Snowfield Stable encounter
  • Only covers mild cold — insufficient for upper Hebra

Rito Village

Rito Village is built on a series of aerial platforms around a central pillar — the main hub for the Hebra region.

Key shops:

  • Armor Shop (Brazen Beak) — sells Snowquill Set
  • Swallow's Roost Inn — rest for 20 Rupees; bed upgrade gives 3 bonus Yellow Hearts
  • Arrow Shop — sells Ice Arrows, Fire Arrows, and standard Arrow bundles
  • Rito Village Grocery — cooking ingredients, Spicy Pepper sold here

Key NPCs:

  • Teba — Rito warrior, gives initial Wind Temple direction
  • Saki — Rito archer child with puzzle-hint dialogue
  • Harth — bowsmith who gives bow repair information
  • Tulin — your sage companion, unlocked during Wind Temple quest

Main Quest — Wind Temple

The Wind Temple is reached via the Hebra Sky Islands — a chain of floating platforms above the Stormwind Ark.

Approach:

  1. Talk to Teba in Rito Village for direction
  2. Fly to the Rising Island Chain north of Rito Village (use Tulin's gust ability to reach)
  3. Follow the ice-covered island chain to the Stormwind Ark
  4. Solve the five propeller puzzles inside the temple with Tulin

Wind Temple overview: The Wind Temple is built inside a massive frozen ship (Stormwind Ark) drifting in the permanent blizzard above Hebra. Five propeller-lock mechanisms must be activated by clearing ice blockages and directing Tulin's wind blasts at the propeller blades.

Boss: Colgera

  • An enormous ice centipede flying through the blizzard
  • Weak point: three glowing chest segments on its body
  • Phase 1: Use Tulin's gust to boost yourself into the weak points as Colgera flies past
  • Phase 2: Colgera dives through the floor ice — dodge through the openings it creates
  • Best tactic: Tulin gust boost + Bomb Arrows to the ice segments = fastest kill
  • Reward: Tulin permanent upgrade + Colgera materials (Wing, Jaw, Talon)

Frost Talus Locations

Frost Talus are the ice-variant Talus with the highest Sapphire drop rate.

| Frost Talus | Location | Coordinates | |-------------|----------|-------------| | Hebra Peak north | Northern snowfields | (-2760, 3540, 650) | | Coldsnap Hollow | East of Hebra Peak | (-2180, 3100, 550) | | Hebra West | West snowfields | (-3280, 2980, 700) | | South Hebra | Near Snowfield Stable | (-2440, 2240, 480) |

Frost Talus strategy:

  • Fire Arrows melt ice-crystal armor on the body — fire 2-3 to expose the ore node
  • Once armor melted: climb and attack the ore node with melee
  • Bomb Arrows to the exposed ore node deal significant damage
  • Drops: Sapphires (1-3), Flint, Ice Breath ice chunk

Sapphire Farming Loop

Hebra is the best Sapphire farming region in the game.

Optimal route:

  1. Start at Rito Village
  2. Fly northeast to the first ore node cluster on the Hebra Peak approach
  3. Clear Frost Talus at Coldsnap Hollow
  4. Continue north — hit ore nodes on the main snowfield plateau
  5. Clear Frost Talus at Hebra Peak north
  6. Fly back to Rito Village → sleep at inn → Blood Moon reset → repeat

Average yield per loop: 4-9 Sapphires, 3-6 Flint, misc gems.

Notable Caves

| Cave | Contents | |------|---------| | Coldsnap Hollow | Frost Talus + multiple ore nodes | | Hebra North Cave | Ice Like-Like + Sapphire chest | | Rito Village Cliffside Cave | Hidden chest with early Ruby | | Snowfield Stable Cave | Accessible cave with mining deposits | | Pikida Stonegrove | Large plateau cave system with Luminous Stones |

Side Quests

| Quest | Giver | Reward | |-------|-------|--------| | Tulin of Rito Village | Main quest chain | Sage's Will fragment | | Misa's Special Dish | Misa (Rito Village) | Rito Recipe card | | Brazen Beak Discount | Brazen Beak owner | Armor discount | | Fly-Off Rock Challenge | Kid NPC near Rito | Arrows bundle | | Hebra Snowfield Cave Quest | Cave entrance NPC | Luminous Stones |

Korok Seeds — Hebra Highlights

  • Rito Village spiral: A flower appears on one of the elevated ring platforms — follow it to the top
  • Snowfield pinwheel: Shoot the pinwheel targets in order from highest to lowest altitude
  • Rock cube lift: Small rock cube perched on a cliff edge — pick up and place on the pedestal nearby
  • Ice pillar ring: A ring of floating ice pillars with a Korok at the center — fly through the ring opening

Tips

  • Blizzard navigation: Heavy Hebra blizzards reduce visibility to ~10 meters. A Brightbloom Seed thrown forward helps with navigation in the upper fields.
  • Ice Fruit from trees: Crystallized Icefruit grows on trees throughout Hebra — cook it for free chilly meals and cold-resist food without needing spices.
  • Updraft above Wind Temple: The blizzard creates a permanent updraft above the Stormwind Ark. You can re-enter the temple from the sky with the paraglider anytime.
  • Snowquill vs. Flamebreaker trade: Unlike Death Mountain, Hebra temperatures vary by altitude. One piece of Snowquill covers lower areas; bring two pieces for Hebra Peak. Full set is only required for the Wind Temple interior.
  • Bird enemies at Rito Village: Aerocuda and Keese cluster near the approach to Rito at night. Use a bow from the village platforms to clear them safely.
