Korok Seed Farming Guide — Fastest Methods to Collect Seeds in TotK
Overview
There are 900 Korok Seeds scattered across Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom, hidden in sky islands, the surface, and even the Depths. Trading them to Hestu expands your weapon, bow, and shield slots — the core reason to collect them. This guide focuses on farming efficiently rather than hunting every single seed, so you can upgrade your inventory without spending dozens of hours on completionist runs.
Why Farm Korok Seeds
Each Korok Seed traded to Hestu costs an increasing number of seeds per slot upgrade:
| Upgrade Number | Seeds Required | |---------------|--------------| | 1st slot | 1 seed | | 2nd slot | 2 seeds | | 5th slot | 5 seeds | | 10th slot | 10 seeds | | 20th slot | 20 seeds |
Early upgrades are cheap — the first dozen inventory expansions cost very few seeds. Targeting high-density zones early means you can rapidly unlock multiple slots before investing serious time.
High-Density Korok Seed Zones
Hyrule Field (Surface)
The central Hyrule Field surrounding Lookout Landing has one of the highest concentrations of surface Koroks. Walking the road network from Lookout Landing to Riverside Stable and northeast toward Dueling Peaks can net 15-25 seeds in under an hour. Watch for:
- Rock circles in ponds or rivers (throw a rock to complete)
- Balloons with targets (shoot with arrows)
- Flower trails (follow the sparkles)
- Acorns on cliffs (shoot the acorn)
Akkala Region
The roads around Akkala Citadel Ruins and east toward East Akkala Plains are densely seeded. The terrain is open and most puzzles are visible from horseback, making this an efficient mounted farming route.
Eldin / Death Mountain
The mountain paths leading up to Death Mountain have many rock-lift puzzles and acorn targets. Fireproof armor is required but the density per vertical meter climbed is high.
Sky Islands
Small sky islands frequently contain a Korok puzzle — often a rock that needs placing on a matching platform or a pinwheel that spawns targets. Ascending to any island cluster will often yield 2-3 seeds from nearby puzzle islands.
Fastest Puzzle Types to Solve
| Puzzle Type | Time to Solve | Notes | |-------------|--------------|-------| | Rock circles | 5 seconds | Grab nearby rock with Ultrahand, place in gap | | Acorn targets | 3 seconds | One arrow shot | | Balloon targets | 5 seconds | Move and shoot | | Flower trails | 15-30 seconds | Follow sparkles to end point | | Rock stacks (balance) | 10 seconds | Place rock on top of existing stack | | Pinwheel + targets | 10 seconds | Hit all balloon targets before they disappear | | Two-rock matching | 10 seconds | Ultrahand the isolated rock to match its pair |
Prioritize acorns, balloons, and rock stacks — they require almost no traversal and reward a seed within seconds.
Hestu's Locations
Hestu moves through the game as you progress:
- West Necluda near Lindor's Brow Skyview Tower early game
- Lookout Landing after first meeting
- Korok Forest (permanently) once you clear the Phantom Ganon boss there
Trading seeds at any location counts toward the same pool, so don't wait until you reach Korok Forest.
Tips
- You do not need all 900 seeds — 441 seeds unlock every inventory slot. The rest contribute to a 100% completion reward that is intentionally underwhelming (Hestu's Gift, a golden poop sculpture)
- Paraglide low and slow over fields to spot sparkle trails and floating Koroks
- The Travel Medallion lets you mark dense areas and return quickly
- Complete the Depths lightroot network to avoid gloom while farming Depths Koroks
- A horse makes surface farming significantly faster — ride roads slowly and scan both sides

Depths Korok Seeds — A Different Challenge
The Depths have a unique Korok puzzle type not found on the surface: Korok reunions. Two Koroks need to reach each other — one is stationary, one needs to be transported by Link using Ultrahand or a Zonai vehicle. Completing these gives 2 Korok Seeds instead of 1.
Finding reunion Koroks in the Depths:
- Look for a large yellow flower on the ground (stationary Korok)
- The second Korok is nearby, usually carrying a large backpack and waiting to be picked up
- Ultrahand the second Korok and carry it to the flower
Depths Korok density: The Depths mirror the surface in layout — every surface landmark corresponds to a Depths location directly below. Koroks in the Depths are clustered near Lightroots (which correspond to surface shrines). Areas with dense shrine coverage on the surface → dense Lightroot and Korok coverage in the Depths.
Risk management: The Depths carry Gloom risk. Farm Depths Koroks along an established Lightroot chain where you can see clearly and have safe retreat paths.
Korok Puzzle Type Encyclopedia
Knowing all puzzle types instantly speeds up collection rate:
| Puzzle Type | Visual Cue | Solution | Reward | |-------------|-----------|----------|--------| | Rock circle | Ring of rocks with one gap | Ultrahand rock into gap | 1 seed | | Rock stack | Lone rock by a pile | Place on top with Ultrahand | 1 seed | | Two-rock match | Isolated rock near matching rock | Ultrahand isolated to matching pair | 1 seed | | Acorn | Acorn hanging in wooden frame or tree | Arrow shot | 1 seed | | Balloon targets | Floating leaf balloon | Arrow shot | 1 seed | | Pinwheel targets | Spinning pinwheel on post | Hit all launched targets | 1 seed | | Flower trail | Glowing sparkle flower | Follow trail to endpoint | 1 seed | | Offering plate | Platform with stone offering plate | Place specific material | 1 seed | | Timing jump | Sparkling jump point | Time your jump with the sparkle | 1 seed | | Reunion (Depths) | Yellow flower on ground | Carry second Korok to the flower | 2 seeds | | Reunion (surface) | Korok carrying backpack near road | Deliver to waiting Korok | 2 seeds |
Highest efficiency puzzles: Acorns, balloons, and rock matches take 3-10 seconds each. Reunion puzzles take 30-60 seconds but give 2 seeds — still among the best time-per-seed ratios.
Mounted Farming Route — Hyrule Field Loop
The most efficient single farming session uses a horse to cover the Hyrule Field loop:
Route: Lookout Landing → Riverside Stable → Wetland Stable → Lake Hylia dam → Hylia River crossing → back to Lookout Landing
What to watch for:
- Flower trails in the open grass (visible from horseback as gold sparkles)
- Rock circles in rivers (common near every water crossing)
- Balloons near road-adjacent trees
- Acorns in wooden archways along main roads
Expected yield: 20-30 seeds per full loop. At 30-45 minutes per loop, this is the fastest surface farming route before reaching higher-investment areas.
Priority Slot Upgrades — What to Buy First
Not all slot types are equal. Upgrade priority:
| Slot Type | Why Priority | Notes | |-----------|-------------|-------| | Bow slots | Most critical gap — you break bows constantly | Start here | | Weapon slots | Second priority — weapon management eats space | 14+ weapon slots ideal | | Shield slots | Lower priority — you rarely need more than 5 | Less urgent |
Practical target: 14 weapon slots, 8 bow slots, 6 shield slots = 28 total upgrades. Working backward from Hestu's upgrade cost table, 28 upgrades requires approximately 406 seeds total. Achievable without exhaustive completionism.
Korok Forest — Hestu's Permanent Location
Korok Forest requires clearing a Phantom Ganon encounter to access permanently. Before clearing, the forest path sends you in circles (Lost Woods mechanic). After clearing, Hestu is available permanently.
Reaching Korok Forest without clearing Phantom Ganon:
- Enter the Lost Woods from the main approach north of Hyrule Castle
- Follow the wind-blown leaves to navigate (direction and color indicate the correct path)
- The forest is in a clearing — but the Lost Woods maze re-engages if you don't clear Phantom Ganon
Clearing Phantom Ganon in Korok Forest:
- The encounter happens automatically upon first arrival
- Multiple Phantom Ganon enemies spawn — use Sidon's water ability for AoE coverage
- After defeat, the forest "wakes up" and Hestu plants himself permanently near the center clearing
Depths Koroks and the Completion Challenge
The Depths contain 200+ Korok Seeds, accounting for roughly 22% of the total 900. Most are reunion-type (2 seeds each), making Depths farming significantly higher value per puzzle than surface farming.
Why Depths Koroks are underutilized:
- Gloom risk deters casual players
- Poor lighting makes spotting yellow flowers difficult
- Depths navigation requires Lightroot activation for safe travel
The efficient Depths farmer setup:
- Full Lightroot map activated (or at least the major central chains)
- 5+ Sundelion meals for Gloom recovery
- Portable Pots for emergency cooking
- Descent points memorized near each major Depths Korok cluster
Players who commit to Depths farming can collect 80-100 seeds in a single extended session, dramatically accelerating their slot upgrade progress.
