Luminous Stone Farming Guide

Luminous Stones are glowing blue-green minerals that serve two purposes in TotK: they light up the Depths when used as Brightbloom Seeds (sort of — they don't provide light by themselves, but are used in upgrades), and they're consumed by the Zora NPC trade system in Zora's Domain for rewards. They sell for 70 Rupees each and are used in Zora Armor and certain Depths-related armor upgrades. This guide covers the best sources.

What Luminous Stones Are Used For

| Use | Amount Required | |-----|----------------| | Zora Armor upgrade (3★) | 5× Luminous Stone per piece | | Zora Helmet upgrade (2★) | 3× Luminous Stone | | Zora's Domain trade (Dento the blacksmith) | 10× per reward cycle | | Sell at shops | 70 Rupees each |

The Zora Armor set is one of the best swimming sets in the game. Getting it to 3★ requires significant Luminous Stone investment — plan to gather 20-30 before beginning Great Fairy upgrade runs.

Where Luminous Stones Spawn

Luminous Stones have a distinctive blue glow — they're visible from a distance at night or in caves. Unlike other gems, they appear both in standard ore nodes AND as standalone rocks.

Best farming locations:

Lanayru Region (Primary Source)

Luminous Stones cluster heavily around the Lanayru Wetlands and the eastern shores of Zora's Domain:

  • Along the Zora River banks
  • In the shallow water around Toto Lake
  • Cave systems on Lanayru Mountain east face
  • Coordinates near (2840, 0440, 140) — dense cluster above the wetlands

East Necluda

  • Cave systems in East Necluda have Luminous Stone deposits
  • Jochi-iu Shrine area has exposed ore including Luminous Stones
  • Rocky hills north of Lurelin Village

The Depths (Best Rate)

The Depths has the highest concentration of Luminous Stone per run:

  • Any area directly below Zora's Domain (Lanayru Depths)
  • Purple ore nodes in this sector bias toward Luminous Stone
  • Near Nionikik Lightroot and Iayusus Lightroot

Ore Node Farming Loop

Recommended loop (Lanayru):

  1. Start at Upland Zorana Skyview Tower
  2. Descend east toward Zora's Domain — hit ore nodes on the cliff face
  3. Continue to Toto Lake area — check water's edge for Luminous Stones
  4. Go through the cave under Mount Lanayru if accessible
  5. Return to tower → rest → Blood Moon → repeat

Average yield: 5-10 Luminous Stones per loop.

Dento the Blacksmith — Zora's Domain Trade

Dento at Zora's Domain will take 10 Luminous Stones in exchange for crafting a Zora Spear — a reward spear with high base damage useful for early-mid game. This is a one-time trade but worth knowing about.

After the initial trade, Dento uses Luminous Stones to repair your Lightscale Trident and Ceremonial Trident. If you want to maintain these unique spears, stock Luminous Stones long-term.

Mining Tips

  • Visual identification: Luminous Stones have a soft blue-green glow visible from 15+ meters in low light. Easier to spot at night or underground.
  • Cave priority: Enclosed caves near water sources (rivers, lakes) have the highest Luminous Stone density of any environment.
  • Bomb mining: A single Bomb Arrow detonated in a tight cave can break 3-4 ore nodes simultaneously, yielding multiple Luminous Stones in seconds.
  • Miner's Set (earned from Bargainer Statues in the Depths) causes Link to glow — this doubles as a mining visibility aid when harvesting underground stones.

Selling vs. Upgrading

At 70 Rupees each, Luminous Stones are mid-tier sell value. Prioritize:

  1. Keep until Zora Set is upgraded to 3★ (major investment — 15+ stones)
  2. Keep 5-10 extra for Dento's repair service (Trident maintenance)
  3. Sell anything above your reserve freely

If you don't use Zora Armor, Luminous Stones become a consistent 70R/unit sell item from your mining routes — decent passive income.

Lightscale Trident and Ceremonial Trident — Maintenance

The Dento repair service is important for players who use Zora weapons:

| Weapon | Repair Materials | Repair Cost | |--------|----------------|-------------| | Lightscale Trident | 10× Luminous Stone + 3× Flint + 1× Zora Scale | 0 Rupees | | Ceremonial Trident | 5× Luminous Stone + 3× Flint | 0 Rupees |

Both of these weapons are unique — once broken, they cannot be replaced except through Dento's repair service. Maintaining a stockpile of 15+ Luminous Stones is recommended if you use either weapon regularly.

Lightscale Trident stats: The Lightscale Trident is one of the best spears in the game (base ATK 22, but its design allows for effective Fuse combinations — Dragon Horn + Lightscale gives exceptionally high spear damage). Keeping it repaired is worthwhile in late-game.

Depths Luminous Stone Farming — Optimized Route

The Depths directly beneath Zora's Domain contain the densest Luminous Stone nodes in the game. Here's the efficient route:

Descent point: The drainage grate in Zora's Domain lower reservoir drops directly into the Ancient Zora Waterworks — itself a Luminous Stone-rich area.

Depths route:

  1. Enter via the Zora's Domain drain
  2. Clear the Ancient Zora Waterworks floor — 4-6 Luminous Stones from floor deposits
  3. Continue southwest through the Lanayru Depths sector
  4. Follow the ore vein along the wall south of Nionikik Lightroot
  5. Collect from purple ore nodes — each has elevated probability of Luminous Stone vs. Amber
  6. Return via Lightroot teleport or surface Ascend point

Yield: 12-18 Luminous Stones per route, including the Waterworks section. At 70R each, a full route provides 840-1260 Rupees plus whatever bonus gems drop from the purple nodes.

Hagie's Premium — Luminous Stone Trade

Hagie at Tarrey Town pays 100 Rupees per Luminous Stone (vs. the standard 70R at shops). This represents a 43% premium — among the best bonuses Hagie offers by percentage.

Farming + selling calculation:

  • Full Lanayru route: 10 stones average
  • At Hagie: 10 × 100R = 1,000 Rupees per route
  • At Beedle: 10 × 70R = 700 Rupees per route
  • Tarrey Town premium: +300 Rupees per route

For Luminous Stone specifically, the Tarrey Town detour is worth it. Combine with Diamond sales for maximum efficiency per trip.

Depths Brightness as a Mining Aid

The Depths are dark by default, requiring Brightbloom Seeds or Mineru's construct to illuminate areas. For ore farming specifically:

  • Luminous Stones emit their own soft glow — visible from ~10-15m even without Brightbloom lighting
  • This makes them self-locating: in a dark Depths corridor, scan the walls for the characteristic blue-green pulse
  • Activating nearby Lightroots illuminates a radius large enough to reveal all ore nodes in the area — always activate Lightroots before starting a Depths mining run

Night vs. day on the surface: Luminous Stones glow on the surface too, but only in low-light conditions. Mining the Lanayru cliffs at night makes stones visually pop from the terrain — useful for spotting standalone stones (not in ore nodes) that blend into rocks during daytime.

Great Fairy Upgrade — Full Zora Set Budget

If targeting the full Zora Armor set at maximum upgrade:

| Piece | 1★ | 2★ | 3★ | 4★ | Total Luminous | |-------|----|----|----|----|---------------| | Zora Armor | 3 Amber | 5 Amber | 5 Luminous | 5 Opal + more | 5 | | Zora Helm | 3 Amber | 3 Luminous | 5 Luminous | 8 Luminous | 16 | | Zora Greaves | 3 Amber | 5 Amber | 5 Luminous | 5 Luminous | 10 |

Total Luminous Stone for full 4★ Zora Set: ~31 stones

Budget 35 before selling any Luminous Stones if you want the full Zora set maxed. At 12-18 per Depths route, 2-3 runs covers the full requirement.
