Rito Village Complete Guide — Tears of the Kingdom

Rito Village is the bird-people settlement on Lake Totori in the northwest Tabantha Frontier. In TotK, Rito Village faces a crisis — a massive blizzard has trapped the village in perpetual winter, the great Vah Medoh sky structure hovers ominously overhead, and food shortages have forced many Rito to flee. Resolving the blizzard is the Tabantha main questline.

Reaching Rito Village

Route from Lookout Landing:

  1. Head northwest from Lookout Landing through Hyrule Ridge
  2. Cross Tabantha Great Bridge (northwest of Hyrule Castle)
  3. Follow the Tabantha Frontier road northwest to Lake Totori
  4. Rito Village is built on a towering rock spire in the lake

Winter conditions: From the moment you enter Tabantha region, the blizzard intensifies. Level 1 cold near the bridge, Level 2 cold at Rito Village. Snowquill Armor or Spicy Elixirs mandatory.

Fastest route for unprepared players: Purchase Spicy Elixirs from the Tabantha Bridge Stable (Ember Lamp sells them, 80 rupees each) before crossing the bridge.

Tulin Questline — Main Quest

The crisis: Elder Kaneli reports that young Tulin — Teba's son and a highly skilled young Rito — went to investigate the snowstorm and hasn't returned. The storm is linked to a massive Gloom-infused cloud mass above.

Quest chain:

  1. Speak to Elder Kaneli at Rito Village's elder perch
  2. Follow Tulin's trail — clues lead northwest into Hebra mountains
  3. Find Tulin at the Hebra Peak — he's being attacked by a Phantom of the Blizzard
  4. Defeat the phantom together (Tulin's wind arrows + Link's combat)
  5. Tulin reveals the storm's source: a structure inside the storm clouds
  6. Ascend into the storm via the Hebra Skyview Tower + Paraglider
  7. Clear the Wind Temple interior
  8. Defeat the Wind Temple boss — Colgera

Tulin Sage Unlock

After the Wind Temple, Tulin of Rito becomes Link's sage companion.

Tulin's Gust: Tulin releases a powerful wind burst that:

  • Propels Link forward while Paragliding (extends glide distance by ~40%)
  • Hits enemies with knockback when activated near them
  • Can be used mid-air for dramatic directional changes

Activation: Press the sage button while Paragliding — Tulin fires from his position and the wind gust propels Link. Works in any direction Link is facing.

Combat applications:

  • Use Tulin Gust to reach high-ground platforms during aerial combat
  • Activate near waterfalls to gain height and re-enter glide
  • Tulin Gust + bomb flower mid-air = aerial bombardment with extended hover

Snowquill Armor — Complete Set

The Snowquill Armor negates cold damage from the Hebra region. Sold at the armor shop in Rito Village.

| Piece | Cost | Defense | Effect | |-------|------|---------|--------| | Snowquill Headdress | 650 rupees | 3 | Cold Resist 1 | | Snowquill Tunic | 500 rupees | 3 | Cold Resist 1 | | Snowquill Trousers | 1,000 rupees | 3 | Cold Resist 1 | | Full set | 2,150 rupees | 9 | Cold Resist 2 |

Cold Resist 2 (full set): Completely negates Level 2 cold. No elixirs required in Hebra mountains or Death Mountain snowfields.

Set bonus (tier 2 upgrade): Unfreeze — Link cannot be frozen by ice attacks. Critical for fighting Ice Chuchus, Ice Keese, and Naydra.

Wind Temple Guide Summary

The Wind Temple is a large airborne structure above the Hebra storm. Its puzzles require activating wind fans using Tulin's Gust ability while Link operates Ultrahand mechanisms.

Temple structure: 5 wind propeller locks — each requires positioning a giant fan, using Tulin Gust to spin it, and Ultrahand to lock the mechanism in place while spinning.

Boss: Colgera — A massive Gloom-infused stingray swimming through ice storm clouds.

Phase 1: Colgera exposes 3 ice "joints" as it swoops. Shoot each joint with arrows while falling through Colgera's body — use the Paraglider to control descent speed and aim through the ice sections.

Phase 2 (50% HP): Colgera adds a spinning attack — time your descent to dodge the spin, then shoot joints during the recovery phase.

Rewards:

  • Tulin officially joins as a sage
  • Vow of Tulin sage ability
  • Rutafu-Um Shrine appears in Rito Village (Rauru's Blessing)
  • Blizzard over Rito Village dissipates — the region returns to normal weather

Tabantha Activities from Rito Village

Sturnidae Archery Range

Location: Base of Rito Village rock, on the lake shore Activity: Arrow target practice minigame — hit moving targets with time limit Rewards:

  • 1 star (10 targets): Arrows × 20
  • 2 stars (20 targets): Swallow Bow
  • 3 stars (30 targets): Falcon Bow + Ruby
  • Perfect run: Falcon Bow + Topaz

Tips: Use standard arrows (save bomb/elemental). The timing is consistent — the far target always appears at 5, 15, 25 seconds. Memorize the spawn pattern for perfect runs.

Flight Range (Revali's Legacy)

Location: Northwest Tabantha, marked on map after Rito Village Activity: Paraglider challenge course — navigate updraft rings in sequence Reward: Completing all 12 rings awards the Revali's Gale memory visual + 300 rupees

Historical context: The Flight Range was built by Revali from Breath of the Wild. Tulin mentions his great-grandfather's legacy here.

Vah Medoh Sky Island

After the Wind Temple, Divine Beast Vah Medoh is no longer hostile. The massive bird structure remains floating above the village as an exploration area.

Contents:

  • 3 treasure chests (containing Royal-tier gear at ~level 80+ gear scaling)
  • Korok Seed on the right wing tip (jump to it from the main body)
  • Exceptional view for spotting distant sky islands

Access: Paraglide from the Rito Village top perch toward Vah Medoh — approach from below and latch onto the landing gear with Ascend.

Naydra Farming from Rito Village

Note: Naydra patrols Lanayru, not Tabantha. However, Dinraal (fire dragon) sometimes crosses north Tabantha on its Eldin-to-Akkala circuit.

Dinraal in Tabantha: Dinraal passes through Tabantha at approximately 08:00–10:00 heading northeast. Position on the Tabantha Great Bridge at dawn to intercept.
