Daunma Shrine
Daunma Shrine — Torchlit Path
Location: The Depths Ability Required: Ultrahand Difficulty: Medium — light-source puzzle in gloom darkness
Overview
Daunma Shrine uses the Depths' natural darkness as a puzzle mechanic. The shrine chambers are pitch-black except for a set of movable torches. You must use Ultrahand to carry and position torches to illuminate hidden switches, avoid gloom patches, and light the path forward. Progress is entirely tied to where the light reaches.
Preparation
- Ultrahand required
- Brightbloom Seeds or Brightbloom-fused arrows useful for general illumination
- Gloom-resistant food or extra hearts helpful (some floor hazards)
- No combat
- Takes 10–14 minutes
Walkthrough
Step 1: First Chamber — Light the Switch
- Enter the shrine. Total darkness except for one lit torch near the entrance.
- Use Ultrahand to pick up the torch and carry it forward (it stays lit when held).
- Move into the chamber — you'll see a stone pressure switch on the far wall, just barely outside the torch's radius.
- Position the torch on the bracket hook to the left of the switch — this permanently lights the switch area.
- Stand on the switch. The first gate opens.
Step 2: Second Chamber — Navigate Gloom Pools
- The second chamber has gloom patches on the floor arranged in a maze pattern, visible only when lit.
- A second torch is attached to the wall near the chamber entrance. Use Ultrahand to detach it (pull outward from the bracket).
- Carry the torch through the chamber, holding it low to see the gloom patches clearly. Step only on gloom-free floor.
- At the far end is a pressure plate. Place the torch on a bracket above the plate (out of your path) and step on the plate. Gate 2 opens.
Step 3: Final Chamber — The Unlit Altar
- The final chamber is completely dark — no torches present.
- Carry the second torch from Step 2 into the chamber. The altar is ahead, but the path is blocked by a door sealed by a light sensor (illuminated square panel).
- Hold the torch near the light sensor panel. When the sensor is within the torch's glow, it activates and the door opens.
- Set the torch down and walk to the altar.

Tips
- Torch carry technique: Tilt the torch slightly downward with Ultrahand so its light cone illuminates the floor in front of you — more practical for seeing hazards than holding it upright.
- Gloom patches: Even brief contact with gloom reduces max hearts. Path through Step 2 carefully — there's no rush.
- Light sensor range: The sensor in Step 3 requires the torch within about 4 meters. If the panel isn't activating, step closer with the torch in hand before setting it down.
- Brightblooms as supplement: Throwing a Brightbloom Seed provides ambient light for 30 seconds — useful when you need two hands free and can't hold the torch.
- Chest: In a side alcove off Step 2's gloom maze. The alcove entrance is visible when you light the left wall of the chamber. Navigate the edge carefully — the alcove floor is gloom-free.
