Hikakim Shrine — The Frozen Crossing

Location: Hebra Snowfield / Rimewise region, northwest Hyrule Coordinates: (-3822, 2714, 0243) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Easy

Overview

Hikakim Shrine is located in the frigid Rimewise region — the vast snowfield that dominates northwest Hyrule. The shrine's puzzle uses ice mechanics and wind to create platforms and bridge gaps in a snow-themed environment. The cold exterior temperatures make preparation essential before entry, and the shrine's icy floor surfaces inside add a slippery movement challenge to the standard puzzle mechanics. Short and accessible, Hikakim is classified Easy but rewards players who understand TotK's physics well.

Preparation

  • Snowquill Set or cold-resistance food — the Rimewise exterior is lethal without warmth
  • Bring Spicy Elixirs crafted from Sunshroom and any monster part for backup cold resistance
  • No weapons required — entirely puzzle focused
  • Full hearts before entering — the snowfield approach can be hazardous in blizzard conditions
  • The shrine interior has no temperature hazard — only the exterior requires cold gear

Walkthrough

Step 1: Icy Floor Navigation

The first room has a slick ice floor — Link slides in the direction of movement and cannot stop instantly. The path requires crossing to a switch on the far wall without falling into a pit on either side. Tap the control stick in short bursts rather than holding a direction to maintain control on the ice. Cross diagonally to minimize slide distance per movement.

Step 2: Wind-Driven Ice Platform

The second room has a floating ice platform propelled by a Zonai Fan attached to its side. The platform moves in a circular path around a central pillar. Jump onto the platform at its closest point to the entry ledge, then ride it around to the far side where the exit ledge is. Time your jump off as the platform aligns with the exit — the gap is small and the platform moves steadily.

Step 3: Build an Ice Bridge

The final section has a gap too wide to jump, with a pool of ice-cold water below. A Zonai device dispenser on the wall provides a Frost Emitter. Fire the Frost Emitter at the water below — it freezes it solid, creating a flat ice surface to walk across. Cross quickly; the ice lasts approximately 20 seconds before the emitter's effect wanes.

Step 4: Altar

The altar is through the final door. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest nearby contains Sapphire — a gem that provides cold resistance when Fused to armor or weapons.

Tips

  • Ice floor control: Short stick taps — never hold a full direction continuously on the ice. Diagonal movement minimizes the slide distance per input. Practice in Room 1 before attempting tighter sections.
  • Frost Emitter flexibility: The emitter in Step 3 can be aimed at the walls adjacent to the gap, not just the water — it creates climbable ice handholds if you want to scale the far wall from a partially frozen surface rather than walking straight across.
  • Platform timing: The wind-driven platform in Step 2 completes one full rotation in approximately 8 seconds. Count the rotation once, then commit — hesitating at the jump-on point causes the platform to carry you away from the exit ledge.
  • Jump timing on ice: Jumping from ice in TotK has a slight delay before you can change direction mid-air. Account for the sliding start when positioning for the Step 2 platform jump — stand still before jumping, don't run-jump from the ice.
  • Snowquill Set priority: Rito Village sells the Snowquill Set at the armor shop. Three pieces give Cold Resistance 3 — sufficient for the entire Hebra snowfield. Purchase before any Rimewise exploration.
  • Bubbulfrogs: Snow-covered caves near the shrine entrance (at night) contain Bubbulfrogs yielding Bubbul Gems — tradeable at Koltin for rewards. Check the cave southeast of the shrine entrance.
  • Sapphire fuse: The chest's Sapphire can be fused to a weapon for cold-damage bonus attacks, or Fused to an armor piece for a passive Cold Resistance boost. Save it for an armor upgrade if you're still building the Snowquill Set.

Nearby Points of Interest

  • Rito Village — south across the snowfield; full services, Snowquill Set armor shop, Teba/Tulin questline hub, Goddess Statue for Heart/Stamina exchanges
  • Rospro Pass Skyview Tower — east; essential Skyview Tower for the Hebra/Rimewise map region; launch point for aerial shrine approaches across the snowfield
  • Snowfield Stable — southwest; full amenities, cooking pot, inn, horse board, Beedle with cold-resistance gear options
  • Frost Gleeok Territory — northwest of the shrine; Frost Gleeok roams the glacial plateau between Hikakim and the Hebra peak — valuable Gleeok loot but dangerous encounter
  • Hebra Great Skeleton — northwest; ancient Leviathan skeleton embedded in the mountain ice; collectible, lore location
  • Tulin of Rito Village — questline starts at Rito Village and proceeds north through the snowfield; Hikakim Shrine is a natural waypoint during the Wind Temple approach
