Joniu Shrine — Naydra's Scale Blessing

Location: Lanayru region, Mount Lanayru summit area Coordinates: (3862, -1230, 0642) Type: Rauru's Blessing — Dragon interaction prerequisite Difficulty: Easy (interior) / Hard (approach — altitude + Naydra encounter)

Overview

Joniu Shrine is a Rauru's Blessing shrine on Mount Lanayru — activated only after obtaining a Naydra's Scale by shooting or interacting with the Water Dragon Naydra. The shrine pedestal materializes when the scale is deposited. No interior puzzle exists: walk to the altar. The challenge is entirely in the approach: Mount Lanayru's summit requires Cold Resistance 2, the ascent involves significant stamina expenditure, and Naydra herself is a moving target that must be hit with an arrow while airborne above the summit. Joniu's blessing rewards players who engage with Hyrule's dragon ecology — one of four dragon-interaction shrines in the game.

Naydra — The Water Dragon

Naydra circles the peaks of Mount Lanayru and the Lanayru region sky. She is a neutral entity — she does not attack Link unless provoked with conventional weapons, but an arrow shot at her body dislodges a Naydra's Scale without harm.

Finding Naydra

  1. Ascend to the Mount Lanayru summit area via the Lanayru Snowfield approach or Lanayru Skyview Tower launch
  2. Look southeast over the Lanayru Sea — Naydra's blue-white form is visible circling at cloud altitude
  3. Her route loops from Mount Lanayru east over the Lanayru Sea and back — circuit time is approximately 8 minutes

Obtaining the Scale

  1. Paraglide toward Naydra or wait on the summit for her to pass overhead
  2. Shoot an arrow at any part of her body — scales, horns, claws, and spine each yield different dragon materials
  3. A Naydra's Scale drops from body shots — it falls downward and must be caught or retrieved from the ground
  4. Return to the Joniu Shrine pedestal on the mountain face with the scale in inventory — the shrine materializes

Preparation

  • Cold Resistance 2 — Mount Lanayru summit is Cold Zone 2; Snowquill Tunic + Pants (or 1-piece + Spicy Elixir) is sufficient
  • A bow with standard arrows — only one arrow needed to hit Naydra
  • Stamina (2+ wheels) — the summit ascent is long; Energizing Elixirs or Stamella Shrooms recommended
  • Paraglider — essential for intercepting Naydra mid-flight
  • No weapons or armor needed inside the shrine

Walkthrough

Step 1: Ascend Mount Lanayru

From the Lanayru Road West Gate stable area, head east toward Mount Lanayru. The summit trail passes through Cold Zone 1 (Snowquill Tunic sufficient) then Cold Zone 2 near the peak (full Cold Resistance 2 mandatory). Follow the climbing path northeast — the Joniu Shrine pedestal is visible on the mountain's eastern face at approximately two-thirds height.

Step 2: Intercept and Hit Naydra

From the summit or the pedestal ledge, watch for Naydra's blue-white form approaching from the east. When she passes within arrow range (she often passes within 30m of the summit), draw the bow, aim slightly ahead of her path to account for movement, and fire. The scale impact produces a visible sparkle. If she passes too far, paraglide toward her.

Step 3: Activate the Pedestal

With Naydra's Scale in inventory, interact with the Joniu Shrine pedestal — it activates and the shrine materializes.

Step 4: Altar

Walk the short corridor to Rauru's statue. Check for a treasure chest on the left side — Rauru's Blessing shrines frequently include bonus items (Zonaite, Zonai Capsule, or rare gem). Collect your Light of Blessing.

Chest Summary

| # | Contents | Location | |---|----------|----------| | 1 | Large Zonaite | Step 4 — left side of the blessing corridor before the altar. Rauru's Blessing bonus chest. |

Tips

  • Naydra passes the summit approximately every 8 minutes — if you miss her first pass, wait or paraglide after her
  • Shooting Naydra's horns yields Naydra's Claw; spine yields Naydra's Spike; mouth yields Naydra's Fang — scales come from body shots
  • Dragon materials are extremely valuable for armor upgrades at Great Fairy Fountains — collect all materials in one encounter
  • Cold Resistance 2 is the minimum for the summit — Cold Zone 2 causes health damage without it
  • Joniu Shrine becomes a permanent fast travel point after activation — the summit becomes easily revisitable for dragon farming
