Kadaunar Shrine
Kadaunar Shrine — Gravity and the Slope
Location: Gerudo Desert, eastern edge near Gerudo Canyon Coordinates: (-2477, -2720, 0098) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Kadaunar Shrine centers on gravity and inclined plane mechanics — moving heavy spheres along rails and slopes to activate pressure plates and open gates. The core skill is using Ultrahand to guide spheres precisely along curved rail paths without letting them roll past their targets. The shrine's layout makes errors recoverable: spheres that overshoot can usually be retrieved with Recall, and Ultrahand can reach spheres in most positions. One room requires coordinating two spheres simultaneously — the puzzle's most demanding and satisfying moment when it clicks.
Preparation
- Solid Ultrahand control, especially fine-movement and precise release timing
- Recall proficiency for recovering spheres that overshoot their marks
- No combat or temperature equipment needed — purely a puzzle shrine
- Take your time; the shrine has no time pressure on any individual challenge
- Eat a cooked meal before entering for full hearts during the desert approach
Walkthrough
Step 1: Single Sphere Rail
The first room contains one large metal sphere and a curved rail track leading to a circular pressure plate at the far end. Use Ultrahand to place the sphere on the rail's starting platform, then gently guide it along the curve — don't release immediately or it will accelerate past the plate. Hold Ultrahand contact until the sphere is within 2 meters of the plate, then release. Gravity carries it the rest of the way. Plate activates, first gate opens.
Step 2: Two Rails, One Sphere
The second room has two parallel rails converging at a single pressure plate. Both rails channel the sphere onto the plate — the sphere must travel rail one, then transfer to rail two at the junction point. Use Ultrahand to physically move the sphere from rail one to rail two mid-transit — pick it up and place it on the connecting section. The second gate opens when the sphere reaches the pressure plate at the bottom.
Step 3: Elevated Rail with Drop Zone
The third room's rail runs at a downward angle, accelerating the sphere faster than previous rooms. The pressure plate is at the base of a drop — the sphere must exit the rail at the correct point and fall into a recessed socket rather than bouncing past. The socket is 1 meter left of where the rail ends. Adjust the sphere's path mid-rail by gently nudging it left with Ultrahand before the drop. Expect 1-2 attempts to dial in the trajectory correctly.
Step 4: Two-Sphere Simultaneous Activation
The final chamber requires two spheres to occupy two separate pressure plates simultaneously — the gate only opens when both are active at the same time. The plates are 4 meters apart. The right plate has a recessed socket that locks spheres in place — fill it first, then guide sphere two to the flat left plate. Hold sphere two in contact with Ultrahand for 3 seconds while both plates are active, giving the gate mechanism time to register and open fully.
Step 5: Altar
Through the final gate is the altar chamber. Collect your Light of Blessing. A chest to the left holds Zonaite — useful for crafting Zonai Charges at a Forge.
Tips
- Recall is the primary recovery tool — if a sphere overshoots its target, Recall brings it back along its exact path
- On Step 4: the recessed socket plate locks the sphere permanently — always fill it first before working on the flat plate
- Moving spheres at the slowest possible speed with Ultrahand prevents overshoots on sharp curves and junctions
- The elevated rail in Step 3 requires an early trajectory adjustment — wait too long and the sphere is past the correction zone
- Listen for the pressure plate activation sound — a distinct chime confirms the plate is engaged correctly
