Kema Kosassa Shrine
Kema Kosassa Shrine — A Difficult Crossing
Location: Gerudo Desert, northwest quadrant near Gerudo Canyon Coordinates: (-2882, -2198, 0092) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Kema Kosassa Shrine presents a boulder and ramp navigation challenge — Link must guide large stone boulders into specific positions to create bridges and unlock pressure-activated gates. The shrine's puzzle logic rewards players who understand how angles and incline interact with Ultrahand-guided objects. Boulders here are large enough to serve as bridges when positioned horizontally but too heavy to float — they must be placed precisely on supports rather than flung. This shrine is frequently cited as one of the Gerudo region's most creative puzzles for players who enjoy physics-based lateral thinking.
Preparation
- Ultrahand proficiency with heavy objects — boulders resist quick movement and require deliberate handling
- Recall for reversing boulders that roll into inconvenient positions
- No weapons or armor required — purely a puzzle shrine
- A light cooked meal before entry is sufficient — no combat hazards inside
- Desert Voe Set for the exterior desert approach, where heat damage accumulates quickly
Walkthrough
Step 1: Bridge Boulder
The first room has a wide gap between two stone platforms. A large spherical boulder rests in a groove to the left. Use Ultrahand to lift it — note the weight resistance, requiring deliberate vertical lift rather than a quick grab. Lower the boulder horizontally across the gap, resting both ends on the platform edges. It becomes a walkable bridge. Cross it carefully; the surface is curved and Link can slip off the sides.
Step 2: Incline Launch
The second room introduces a ramp angled toward a raised ledge 5 meters up. A boulder at the ramp's base must be positioned at the ramp's top and released — its momentum carries it to the ledge, where it lands in a socket that opens the gate. The tricky part: the boulder must be placed at the precise ramp angle to land in the socket rather than bouncing past. Lower it slowly onto the ramp and hold Ultrahand contact until it's pointing directly at the socket, then release.
Step 3: Dual Boulder Gate
The third room has two pressure plate sockets that must be filled simultaneously. Two boulders are available, but they're positioned far apart. Fill the left socket first (it's recessed and locks the boulder), then carry the second boulder to the right socket. The right socket is flat — hold the boulder in place with Ultrahand for 3 seconds while the gate mechanism registers. Both gates open together.
Step 4: Vertical Shaft
A vertical shaft leads to the upper level. A boulder suspended by a rope above blocks the ascent path. Use Recall on the boulder to reverse its swing — the recall arc lifts it clear of the shaft opening for approximately 4 seconds. Use Ascend through the shaft floor during that window. Timing is the core challenge — activate Recall, then immediately move under the shaft and trigger Ascend.
Step 5: Final Chamber
The final chamber is a wide open room with the altar directly visible. Collect your Light of Blessing and examine the chest against the east wall containing a Boulder Breaker Fragment material for Fuse upgrading.
Tips
- Boulders resist fast movement with Ultrahand — use deliberate, slow repositioning for precise placement
- The Recall window in Step 4 is 4 seconds — practice the timing by watching the boulder's swing arc once before committing
- The curved surface of spherical boulders means Link can slide off them — hug the edge when crossing the bridge in Step 1
- If a boulder rolls into an inaccessible position, Recall it back along its path before it stops completely
- Zonaite deposits are visible in the shrine walls — cannot be mined inside, but indicates Depths proximity
