Kihshe Shrine — Lava Ring Blessing

Location: Eldin Region, Death Mountain lower lava fields Coordinates: 1312, 2836, 0336 Type: Rauru's Blessing Difficulty: Easy (interior) / Moderate (approach) — requires Fireproof protection

Overview

Kihshe Shrine is a Rauru's Blessing shrine on a small rocky island surrounded by a lava moat — the puzzle is entirely the outdoor approach. No enemies or mechanics inside. The creative challenge is deciding how to cross the lava ring without a bridge already in place. Multiple solutions exist: Ultrahand bridge construction, Ascend through rock formations, launching from updrafts near the lava, or simply using Recall on a stone platform if one has been thrown into the moat recently.

Location Details

The shrine sits in the lower Death Mountain lava fields, accessible from the main Eldin Canyon road heading up toward Goron City. From Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower (Lanayru access), glide northwest to the lava field elevation. The shrine's orange glow is visible from the canyon road at night. Flamebreaker protection mandatory — the lava field deals continuous fire damage without flame guard, and falling into the lava moat is instant death.

Preparation

Mandatory: Equip one of the following before approaching the lava field:

  • Flamebreaker Armor (2+ pieces for Flame Guard Lv 1)
  • Fireproof Elixir (Smotherwing Butterfly + any monster part)
  • If you have the full Flamebreaker Set at ★★, you're fully protected for the entire approach

Bring 3–5 loose rocks or a log in your inventory for bridge building — the environment may not have suitable materials nearby.

Crossing the Lava Moat

Method 1 — Ultrahand Bridge (Recommended)

  1. Scan the surrounding lava field for large flat rocks, metal plates, or wooden beams — they spawn as loose objects near the moat edge.
  2. Use Ultrahand to grab a flat rock and lay it across the lava moat at its narrowest crossing point.
  3. If one rock doesn't span the gap: grab a second and attach it to the first (wait for the gold alignment indicator), creating a longer bridge section.
  4. Walk across the rock bridge to the shrine island. The rocks conduct heat but don't melt — safe to cross even without Fireproof on the soles of your feet.
  5. Enter the shrine.

Method 2 — Ascend Through Rock Formation

  1. Look for a sloping rock formation at the moat's inner edge — Eldin's lava fields have rock shelves that overhang the lava moat.
  2. Get into position below the formation and use Ascend — phase through the rock into the elevated area on the shrine island side.
  3. This method requires no materials and is fastest if the rock geometry cooperates.
  4. Note: Ascend requires solid stone or floor above you, not lava. Position carefully.

Method 3 — Lava Updraft Launch

  1. Lava fields generate heat updrafts visible as shimmering distortion columns above the moat.
  2. Run to the moat edge and jump into a strong updraft — it launches Link upward.
  3. Open the paraglider at the updraft's peak and glide to the shrine island.
  4. This method requires timing and a strong updraft near the crossing point — not always reliable.

Method 4 — Yunobo Roll

  1. If you have access to the Yunobo Sage ability (after completing the Fire Temple), Yunobo's rolling charge crosses lava fields.
  2. Aim Yunobo's roll toward the shrine island, launch, and follow the path he carves.
  3. Jump the gap while the roll's launch momentum carries Link.

Inside the Shrine

The interior is a short single corridor ending at the altar chamber.

  1. Walk through the entrance arch.
  2. Check for a treasure chest along the left wall — blessing shrines occasionally have a chest separate from the blessing reward.
  3. Interact with Rauru's statue for your Light of Blessing.

Nearby Points of Interest

  • Goron City — northeast up the mountain road; armor shop (Flamebreaker set), spring baths for healing, Yunobos storyline start
  • Death Mountain Summit — high elevation above; rare ores (Ruby, Diamond, Topaz in veins), Lynel encounter at summit approach
  • Goma Asagh Shrine — another Eldin shrine in the same lava field zone; do both in one fireproof session
  • Disisan Shrine — nearby fire puzzle shrine; same thermal-protection run recommendation
  • Eldin Canyon Stable — south below the lava field; nearest rest point before ascending Death Mountain

Tips

  • Lava moat width: Measure before committing to a bridge plan — some moats are narrow enough for a single rock, others require attached-rock spans. Scout from the edge first.
  • Rock retrieval: If your bridge rock falls into the lava, it's gone — Ultrahand can't retrieve objects submerged in lava. Bring backup building material.
  • Fireproof ≠ Lava-proof: Fireproof Elixir and Flamebreaker armor prevent fire damage from the air and floor heat, but direct lava contact is instant death regardless of Fireproof level.
  • Eldin efficiency: Pair this shrine with all other Eldin shrines (Goma Asagh, Disisan, Magda, Sitsum) — equip Flamebreaker and clear all five in one thermally-protected expedition to save transition time.
  • Fast travel anchor: After collecting the blessing, Kihshe Shrine becomes a fast travel point inside the lava field — useful for future Death Mountain farming runs.
