Mayachin Shrine
Mayachin Shrine — A Fixed Device
Location: Central Hyrule, north Hyrule Field Coordinates: (-0634, 1142, 0024) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Easy
Overview
Mayachin Shrine is a pendulum timing shrine — Link must use swinging objects and timed interaction to activate switches and create crossing opportunities. The shrine directly demonstrates how momentum and timing work in TotK's physics engine: objects keep swinging on consistent arcs, and the puzzle is about placing Link at the right position at the right moment. An excellent early-game shrine for Central Hyrule that teaches timing-based thinking applicable to many later shrine encounters and overworld puzzles.
Preparation
- No weapons or armor requirements inside the shrine
- Ultrahand proficiency for adjusting pendulum starting positions
- No temperature or combat hazards inside
- Accessible early in the game with minimal preparation required
- A cooked meal for hearts is sufficient — no specialized gear needed
Walkthrough
Step 1: First Pendulum — Switch Activation
The first room has a large pendulum hanging from the ceiling, swinging in a wide arc. A switch on the far wall aligns exactly with the pendulum's path at one point in its swing. Grab the pendulum with Ultrahand, pull it to the left past vertical, and release. On the rightward return arc, it strikes the switch. Gate opens. Observe the arc first to confirm the switch position matches the swing path before releasing.
Step 2: Pendulum Platform Crossing
The second room has a gap with a pendulum swinging across it. The pendulum's platform shape allows Link to stand on it. Jump onto it at its leftmost point (closest to Link), and ride it rightward across the gap. Step off onto the far ledge as the pendulum reaches its rightward apex before it swings back.
Step 3: Double Pendulum Sequence
The third room has two pendulums that must hit two separate switches in sequence — the second switch only activates when the first is already active. Pull Pendulum A to start, then one second later release Pendulum B — the slight delay means both switches activate within the required simultaneous window.
Step 4: Altar
The final door opens when the sequence completes. Collect your Light of Blessing at the altar. A side chest contains Hyrule Herb — a basic cooking ingredient useful for stamina recovery recipes.
Tips
- Observe each pendulum's full arc before interacting — the switch-strike point is always at one of the arc's extreme ends
- Pendulum momentum is consistent — count swing intervals before releasing for reliable timing
- Platform pendulums move slowly enough to step onto comfortably — no rushing needed
- The double pendulum: start A first, then B one second later — the arc position difference creates the simultaneous hit
