Overview

Mayam Shrine is a Rauru's Blessing shrine on a remote northern sky island above the Akkala/Rimewise border zone — one of the most isolated sky shrines in the game. The interior has no puzzle: walk to the altar. The approach requires overcoming two major challenges: extreme cold at sky altitude (Cold Resistance 3 mandatory) and horizontal sky navigation using a Zonai Wing glider with fans. Players who complete the island's environment challenge and activate the shrine pedestal are rewarded with the Light of Blessing. The sky island's loot — Zonaite and Zonai devices scattered on the platforms — makes the approach worthwhile beyond just the shrine.

Location Details

The sky island is above the northern Akkala region, visible from the Ulri Mountain area as a faint glow in the high-north sky. It is not accessible directly from Akkala Tower's standard launch height without additional altitude gain.

Approach options:

1. Akkala Tower + height building: Launch from Akkala Tower (north of Akkala Citadel), gain altitude using updrafts or rocket shields, then paraglide north-northwest toward the island's approximate position.
2. Skyview Tower + glide: Akkala Skyview Tower launches Link high enough to spot the island directly in the far north; extend range with Zonai Wing.
3. Recall chain: Use a Recall-reversed stone platform or sky island chain to climb higher than normal launch altitude.

Preparation

Mandatory:

• Cold Resistance Level 3 — The north sky is significantly colder than surface Hebra or even Hebra Peak. Standard Cold Resistance 2 causes continuous damage at this altitude.
  • Full Snowquill Set (3 pieces, ★★ upgrade minimum) = Cold Resistance 3
  • Or: Snowquill ★ + Spicy Elixir (Level 2 buff) stacks to Cold Resistance 3

Recommended:

• Zonai Wing + 2 Fans — for horizontal distance coverage at altitude; Wing gliders allow much greater range than free paraglider from max Tower height
• Zonai Batteries — extra battery capacity ensures fans run the full crossing distance
• Brightbloom Seeds — helpful if island approach is at night (sky island platforms can be hard to see in darkness)
• 4+ Spicy Elixirs or Sunshroom meals as cold backup

Reaching the Island — Step by Step

Step 1: Gain Initial Altitude

1. Launch from Akkala Skyview Tower at its maximum height.
2. Immediately open the Paraglider and glide north — the sky island glow is visible as a faint orange shimmer in the far north sky.
3. If altitude is insufficient to glide the full distance, look for updraft vents on intermediate sky island platforms between Akkala and the target island.

Step 2: Build and Deploy a Wing Glider

1. On the first accessible intermediate platform (or at Akkala Tower's launch pad area), find a Zonai Wing.
2. Attach 2 Zonai Fans to the Wing's rear, pointing backward.
3. Stand on the Wing and activate the fans — the Wing glides forward at altitude-sustaining speed.
4. Pilot the Wing north toward the shrine island, using the Paraglider if you need to hop off and approach at angle.

Step 3: Navigate the Cold Zone

1. As you approach the island's altitude band (~800m+), Cold Resistance 3 must be active — the temperature drops sharply at this elevation.
2. If Cold Resistance drops below 3 at this altitude, Link starts taking cold damage at ~1 HP per 3 seconds. Consume a Spicy Elixir immediately if gear alone isn't sufficient.
3. Land on the island's outer platform.

Step 4: Island Navigation

1. The island has multiple platforms connected by gaps — use the Paraglider to hop between them.
2. Navigate to the central shrine pedestal — a Zonai stone altar at the island's center.
3. Interact with the pedestal — the shrine materializes adjacent to it.
4. Enter the shrine.

Inside the Shrine — Rauru's Blessing

No puzzle. Walk the short corridor to the altar. Check for a treasure chest on the left side before the altar — Rauru's Blessing shrines often include a bonus item (Zonaite, Zonai Device Capsule, or rare gem).

Island Loot (Worth Collecting)

While on the sky island, collect available materials before leaving:

• Zonaite deposits on platform surfaces — mine with any weapon
• Zonai Device Dispensers — may contain Wings, Fans, Rockets, or Batteries
• Bubbulfrog — check under overhanging platform sections at night for a Bubbul Gem

Tips

• Cold Resistance 3 non-negotiable: Test your Cold Resistance before committing to the sky island approach. Stand outside at night in surface Hebra — if you're taking damage, you're below Level 3 and will take more damage at sky island altitude.
• Two fans vs one: A single fan Wing glider loses altitude faster than a dual-fan Wing. For a crossing of this distance (from Akkala Tower), dual fans are essential to maintain altitude all the way to the island.
• Return trip: After activating the shrine, Mayam becomes a permanent fast travel point — no need to fly back. Simply activate the shrine and warp out from inside.
• Battery conservation: Deactivate one fan when at cruising altitude to extend the battery life — glide with one fan active and the other off during level flight.
• Reward-effort perspective: This shrine takes more preparation than most, but the Light of Blessing counts the same as any other. If Heart/Stamina upgrades are needed urgently, note this shrine and return when gear is ready.
