Morasudar Shrine — Riding the Wind

Location: Faron Region, Faron highlands Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) — Medium Coordinates: 1142, -3284, 0198 Required Ability: Paraglider, Ultrahand Reward: Light of Blessing

Overview

Morasudar Shrine teaches updraft navigation — a mechanic central to Faron's sky island content and paraglider traversal. The shrine generates artificial updrafts from floor vents and requires you to use them to reach elevated platforms and activate door mechanisms. The complication: pressure plates that open doors close as soon as you step off them, requiring Ultrahand to place a block-weight substitute while you navigate to the exit. A two-person solution built for one.

Preparation

  • Paraglider required — this shrine cannot be completed without it
  • 1+ Stamina Vessel recommended — updraft gliding costs no stamina, but inter-platform transitions may require brief climbs
  • Ultrahand required for block placement
  • No elemental protection needed; Faron region approach is warm-jungle climate

Room Layout

| Room | Challenge | Key Tool | |------|-----------|---------| | Room 1 — Updraft Launch | Rise via floor vent updraft to elevated platform | Paraglider | | Room 2 — Pressure Plate Hold | Keep plate depressed while you exit | Ultrahand + movable block | | Room 3 — Descent + Final Door | Controlled paraglider descent to altar level | Paraglider |

Walkthrough

Room 1 — Updraft Launch

The first room has a floor vent emitting a strong vertical air current — visible as shimmering heat distortion or animated particles rising from a grated floor panel.

  1. Walk directly over the vent's center — position yourself standing on the grate
  2. Jump (B button) — the updraft launches you upward significantly faster than a normal jump
  3. Immediately open your Paraglider (X button) in mid-air — the updraft column extends several meters above the vent; the Paraglider keeps you in the column and extends your ascent
  4. Rise to the upper level — an elevated platform is visible above and slightly to the side
  5. Steer toward the platform: angle the Paraglider movement stick toward it while ascending; you have 3–4 seconds to position
  6. Close the Paraglider (X again) as you clear the platform's edge and drop onto it

Updraft column edge: If you drift sideways out of the updraft column while ascending, the Paraglider stops rising and begins normal forward glide. Steer back toward the center if you drift, or accept the partial altitude and glide to the nearest platform edge.

Stamina note: The updraft rise itself costs zero stamina. Paraglider stamina only depletes during horizontal gliding after the updraft peak. Rise freely.

Room 2 — Pressure Plate Weight Problem

The upper platform has a pressure plate (circular floor button) and a locked door that opens when the plate is depressed. Problem: stepping off the plate closes the door.

The block solution:

  1. Locate the movable stone block on the upper platform — it's a cube resting near the platform's back wall
  2. Use Ultrahand to pick up the block
  3. Place the block on the pressure plate — the plate depresses under the block's weight; the door opens
  4. Now walk through the open door — the block stays on the plate, door stays open

If the block falls off the plate: Grab it with Ultrahand from the doorway (Ultrahand's range extends far enough) and reposition it centrally on the plate.

Time-limited door variation: Some Morasudar runs have the door on a timer rather than a hold — in that case, place the block on the plate and then sprint through the open door before it closes. The timer is typically 6–8 seconds from plate activation.

Chest access — Room 2:

Before placing the block and proceeding through the door, check the left side of the upper platform:

  1. A side alcove is accessible from the upper platform level — look left after ascending from the updraft
  2. The chest is in this alcove on a stone shelf
  3. Contains a Mighty Thistle (cooking ingredient, attack boost) or a Falcon Bow — loot scales with progression
  4. Collect before placing the block on the pressure plate

Room 3 — Controlled Descent to Altar

Through the pressure-plate door, a second room opens onto a descending section — the altar is below the current level, accessed by a controlled paraglider drop.

  1. Approach the drop-off edge — the altar platform is visible below, approximately 8 meters down
  2. Walk off the edge and immediately open the Paraglider
  3. Steer toward the altar platform — it's directly below and slightly forward
  4. Land on the altar platform and close the Paraglider

Alternative — staircase: If a stone staircase or ramp is present in Room 3, the paraglider drop is optional. Walk down the staircase for a safe, non-timed path.

Altar

Interact with Rauru's statue and collect your Light of Blessing.

Chest Summary

| Chest | Location | Contents | |-------|----------|----------| | Room 2 side alcove | Left of upper platform, after updraft ascent | Mighty Thistle (×3) or Falcon Bow |

Tips & Strategy

  • Updraft center is everything: The launch works best from directly over the vent center. If you're standing at the vent's edge rather than the center, the updraft is weaker. Walk to the center of the grate, then jump.
  • Paraglider timing in Room 1: Open the Paraglider immediately after jumping — the updraft column's strongest lift is in the first 2 seconds. Waiting too long reduces total height gain.
  • Block placement precision: The pressure plate has a ~0.5m activation radius. The block must be near-center to hold it. Place it gently (don't drop from height) — a block dropped from Ultrahand height can bounce off the plate.
  • Updraft bow shot: While rising in an updraft with Paraglider open, drawing your bow enters TotK's slow-motion aim mode. No combat is required in this shrine, but this mechanic (updraft + bow) is essential for Faron sky island combat.
  • Stamina vessel recommendation: Morasudar's internal updrafts provide all necessary lift — you don't need high stamina for this shrine specifically. But the Faron region's sky island chains nearby DO require 1.5+ stamina wheels. If you're in Faron and underpowered on stamina, collect this blessing and invest it.
  • Descent control: The altar drop in Room 3 is short (8m). Even without Paraglider control, a fall-and-roll from this height deals minimal damage. But using the Paraglider practices precision aerial positioning for the larger Faron sky chains.

Required Abilities

  • Paraglider — mandatory for updraft ascent in Room 1 and descent in Room 3
  • Ultrahand — required to place the movable block on the pressure plate in Room 2
