Muokuij Shrine — Into the Depths Below Gerudo

Overview

Muokuij Shrine is located in the Gerudo Depths — the underground layer directly below the Gerudo Desert. Unlike surface Gerudo shrines, reaching Muokuij requires descending through one of the Gerudo region's chasms into the lightless, Gloom-infested underground. The shrine itself is a navigation and Gloom resistance challenge: the interior paths are partially obscured by Gloom barriers, and players must use Brightbloom Seeds and Ultrahand to clear routes through the underground shrine's winding corridors. The difficulty is elevated both by the Depths approach and the shrine's internal darkness mechanics, making this one of the most demanding shrines in the Gerudo region.

Preparation

• Gloom resistance is critical — equip the Depths Set (purchased from Bargainer Statues) for Gloom damage reduction
• Bring 10+ Brightbloom Seeds — the shrine interior requires illumination to navigate
• Sundelion-based meals restore Gloom-reduced hearts after taking Gloom hits
• Poe count — ensure you've collected enough Poes in the Depths to purchase Depths armor from Bargainer Statues before this shrine
• The chasm descent requires either a Glide suit or enough stamina to paraglide safely to the Depths floor below

Reaching the Shrine

Descend into the Gerudo Depths via the large chasm west of Gerudo Town (surface coordinates approximately -3800, -2760). The fall to the Depths floor is significant — ensure you have the Glide Set or deploy the paraglider immediately upon jumping. Upon landing, activate the nearest Lightroot to reveal a portion of the Depths map and create a safe zone. Navigate west-southwest from the lightroot toward the shrine's orange glow on the Depths map, approximately 400m from the nearest Lightroot.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Brightbloom Entry

The shrine entrance is surrounded by Gloom tendrils blocking the path. Throw Brightbloom Seeds into the Gloom patches — their light reaction temporarily recedes Gloom from the floor, creating safe walking paths for approximately 20 seconds each. Move quickly after each seed lands. Three seeds clear the entry corridor completely.

Step 2: Darkness Navigation

The shrine's first interior room has no fixed light sources — a deliberate design choice. Use Brightbloom Seeds on the floor ahead to illuminate 8-10 meters of path at a time. The correct path turns right at the first junction, then immediately left. The false paths lead to dead ends with Gloom-coated floors — stepping on them deals Gloom damage. Feel for the path edges using the illuminated seed light.

Step 3: Gloom Platform Crossing

A wide gap crosses the center of room two, with three floating platforms suspended in the air. Each platform is partially coated in Gloom. Use Ultrahand to rotate each platform so the Gloom-free side faces upward before stepping on it. Hop across the three platforms quickly — each is small, requiring precise landing. Brightbloom Seeds thrown ahead of your jumps illuminate landing zones.

Step 4: Gloom Barrier Gate

The final gate is sealed by a Gloom barrier — a dark energy field that blocks passage. The activation switch is a standard pressure plate on the floor, but reaching it requires passing through a Gloom corridor. Equip maximum Gloom resistance before sprinting through — the corridor is 6 meters long. Hit the plate, then sprint back to the cleared zone before Gloom damage accumulates further. The gate opens and remains open.

Step 5: Altar

The altar chamber is Gloom-free — a clean, lit sanctuary at the shrine's heart. Collect your Light of Blessing. The adjacent chest contains Poes — a fitting reward for Depths exploration, redeemable at Bargainer Statues for Depths armor upgrades.

• Brightbloom Seeds are available in the Depths from cave walls and Bubbulfrogs — farm extras before entering
• The Depths Set from Bargainer Statues is the best Gloom resistance available — prioritize purchasing it
• Sundelion Crepe or Sundelion bread is the most efficient Gloom heart restoration food — cook before descending
• Mark the shrine entrance on the map before descending — it's easier to navigate back up than to relocate the shrine
• Bargainer Statues in the Depths accept Poes for armor — the shrine chest Poes contribute to purchases
