Tavuyak Shrine
Tavuyak Shrine — Proving Grounds: Ascend
Location: Hebra Snowfield / Rimewise region, far northwest Hyrule Coordinates: (-4124, 3012, 0278) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Tavuyak Shrine is an Ascend ability challenge shrine — every room requires using Ascend through ceilings, moving surfaces, and suspended objects to reach the next level. Set in the frozen Rimewise region, the shrine's icy aesthetic complements its vertical focus: rising through frozen stone floors feels appropriate in an environment that demands constant upward movement against the cold. The shrine tests whether players have mastered Ascend's nuances — which surfaces it can penetrate, the timing required on moving platforms, and creative applications like ascending through suspended objects.
Preparation
- Snowquill Set or cold-resistance food for the exterior Rimewise approach
- Ascend ability — must be unlocked on Great Sky Island before this shrine
- No weapons or combat gear required inside the shrine itself
- Cold resistance food: Spicy Elixirs from Sunshroom + monster part, or Spicy Sautéed Peppers
- The shrine interior is not cold — only the exterior snowfield requires preparation
Walkthrough
Step 1: Basic Ascend — Identify the Surface
The first room has a thick stone platform overhead. Not all floors are compatible with Ascend — the thinner stone surface glows subtly blue when Link is positioned correctly below it. Walk under the thin section at the platform's center and activate Ascend. Link phases through, landing on the platform above. This room calibrates the basic mechanic clearly before complications arise.
Step 2: Moving Platform Ascend
The second section has a platform moving horizontally on a track. Ascend can penetrate it while it's in motion — the key is positioning directly below it. Stand still and let the platform pass directly overhead, then trigger Ascend in the 2-second window while it covers your position. The platform carries Link upward as it moves. Don't chase it laterally — remain stationary and let it come to you.
Step 3: Suspended Object Ascend
The third room has a stone slab suspended by chains from the ceiling, swinging slightly. Ascend penetrates through the suspended slab when Link stands below it during its swing. Position below the slab's center and time the Ascend for when the slab is at its lowest point. Link phases through the slab and lands on its upper surface, which connects to a ledge on the far side.
Step 4: Stacked Ascend Sequence
The final section requires three consecutive Ascend actions through stacked thin stone floors. Each floor is compatible, and there's no cooldown between Ascends. Ascend through floor one, immediately walk to the center of that floor (which is also the ceiling of the current level), Ascend again. Repeat for the third floor to reach the top level where the altar waits.
Step 5: Altar
The top level of the shrine holds the altar. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest in the corner contains Snowquill Trousers — a piece of the cold-resistance armor set essential for the surrounding Rimewise region.
Tips
- Ascend glows compatible surfaces blue when Link is positioned below them — always look for the glow before activating
- Moving platform window is approximately 2 seconds — observe the timing without activating first, then commit on the next pass
- The suspended slab in Step 3 Ascend works at its lowest swing point — the chain tension is least there, making the floor thinnest
- Consecutive Ascend (Step 4) has no cooldown — the entire 3-floor stack clears in under 5 seconds once you're positioned
- Rito Village south of the Rimewise sells Snowquill Set pieces — purchase before extensive snowfield exploration
Chest Summary
| # | Contents | Location | |---|----------|----------| | 1 | Snowquill Trousers | Top level, corner near the altar. Collected after completing the stacked Ascend sequence. |
