Ukuku Shrine
Ukuku Shrine — Multi-Stage Block Puzzle
Location: Akkala Region, northeast Hyrule Coordinates: 4098, 1654, 0278 Abilities Required: Ultrahand (mandatory), Ascend (optional shortcut) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Hard — three sequential block stages
Overview
Ukuku Shrine is one of the most demanding Ultrahand construction puzzles in Akkala — three separate block-stacking stages in sequence, each requiring different spatial reasoning than the last. The shrine tests staircase construction (three blocks, ascending height), bridge spanning (two long blocks across a gap), and freestanding tower building (four blocks, tallest structure). Each stage has an Ascend shortcut for players who know to look for it.
Location Details
The shrine is in the northeastern Akkala highlands, visible from the East Akkala Stable's eastern road. From Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, launch and glide east-northeast — the shrine sits on an elevated rocky shelf at coordinates 4098, 1654. Approach by climbing the highland terrain or gliding from the tower. No fire resistance needed — Akkala is temperate compared to neighboring Eldin.
Preparation
- Ultrahand required for all three stages
- Ascend for optional shortcuts
- No combat — no weapons or armor preparation needed
- Bring patience — this is one of the longer puzzle shrines in the game
Detailed Walkthrough
Stage 1 — The Staircase
Goal: Reach an upper platform 3 blocks' height above the floor.
- Three blocks are available: a large cube, a medium rectangular block, and a small square block.
- Use Ultrahand to place the large cube flat on the floor near the wall below the target platform.
- Pick up the medium block and place it on top of the large cube. It must be centered to avoid toppling.
- Place the small block on top of the medium block — this creates a 3-step staircase.
- Climb the staircase: step onto the large cube, then the medium, then the small, then jump to grab the ledge above.
Ascend Shortcut (Stage 1): If you can position yourself inside the large block's footprint on the floor, Ascend may phase you through the entire block stack and the overhang simultaneously — skipping all block placement. Test by standing beside the large block and activating Ascend toward the upper ledge ceiling.
Stage 2 — The Bridge
Goal: Cross a gap approximately 12 meters wide.
- Two long flat planks are available. Neither is long enough alone to span the full gap.
- Use Ultrahand to grab the first plank and lay it horizontally at the gap's edge. It should rest on both sides but may not reach the far ledge with one piece.
- Attach the second plank to the first: pick up plank 2 with Ultrahand, hold it next to plank 1's far end, and wait for the attachment indicator (gold glow + click). The attached planks create a bridge long enough to span the gap.
- Alternatively: use Ultrahand to balance one plank as far across as possible, then use the other as a ramp to reach the first plank's far end, then grab the first and pull it all the way across.
- Walk across the combined bridge to the far platform.
Stage 3 — The Tower
Goal: Build a freestanding tower reaching an elevated ledge ~5 blocks high.
- Four identical cube blocks are available on the floor.
- Base stability principle: Wide bases prevent toppling. Place 2 blocks side by side as the base layer.
- Stack block 3 on top of the base pair (centered between them).
- Stack block 4 on top of block 3.
- The 4-block tower should reach the target ledge. Climb it carefully — tall structures sway but don't fall if properly stacked.
- Jump from the top block to grab the ledge and pull yourself up.
Ascend Shortcut (Stage 3): Stack 2 blocks, stand on top, and Ascend through the ceiling overhead. If the ceiling has accessible geometry above the stack, Ascend carries you through 2 blocks' worth of height instantly — the most reliable shortcut in this shrine.
Final Chamber
Walk through the opened gate from Stage 3's platform to the altar room. Interact with Rauru's statue for your Light of Blessing.
Chest Location
A treasure chest is accessible between Stage 2 and Stage 3 — after crossing the bridge, look to the right wall for a side alcove. The chest is typically locked behind a small ledge reachable by stacking one block from Stage 3's available supply. Common contents: Strong Construct Bow, Zonaite material, or 5× arrows.
Tips
- Block "lock" indicator: When two Ultrahand-held objects are close enough to attach, a gold alignment glow appears. Wait for this before releasing — it confirms the blocks are properly connected.
- Off-center stacking: Even slightly off-center blocks will topple when you climb them. If a stack wobbles when you test it (bump the lowest block), re-center before committing.
- Ascend priority: Before attempting any physical stacking solution, always try Ascend first — Ukuku Shrine's ceiling geometry is specifically designed to offer Ascend bypass opportunities in all three stages.
- Deconstruct and retry: If a stage goes wrong, use Ultrahand to pull blocks apart and rearrange — there's no penalty for restarting a stage. The blocks don't degrade or disappear.
- Height estimation: Each full Ukuku block is approximately 1.5 Link-heights tall. Mentally calculate the needed tower height before building: 5-Link-height ledge ÷ 1.5 per block = 4 blocks minimum.
