Snowpeak Ruins — Hebra's Hidden Fortress in TotK
Overview
Snowpeak Ruins refers to the ancient stone fortress complex buried in the northeastern Hebra Mountains of Tears of the Kingdom. Long-time Zelda fans will recognize the name from Twilight Princess, where it was a full dungeon. In TotK, the ruins serve as an explorable landmark — a partially collapsed stone castle buried under permafrost and snow, containing hidden rooms, strong enemies, valuable loot, and a small side quest chain. It is one of the most atmospherically distinct locations in the Hebra region.
Location and Access
Snowpeak Ruins is located in the upper Hebra Mountains, northeast of Rito Village and northwest of the Hebra Peak summit area (approximate coordinates -2870, 3640, 0511).
How to reach it:
- Paraglide northeast from Rito Village after gaining altitude from the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower
- Climb the northern Hebra face from Snowfield Stable (long but direct)
- Use sky islands above the Hebra region to glide into the target elevation band
Requirements:
- Strong cold resistance — multiple layers of Snowquill armor + warm food
- Stamina for extended climbing sections
- Flame weapons or fire arrows for interior ice barriers
Exploring the Ruins
Exterior Courtyard
The outer courtyard is partially intact — stone walls, collapsed towers, and a gatehouse. A Black Bokoblin garrison has occupied the courtyard with a crude camp. The gatehouse arch still stands and functions as a shelter against the wind. A Korok Seed (rock matching puzzle) is hidden near the eastern wall.
Great Hall Interior
The main hall is accessible by breaking through an icy door (fire arrow or Yunobo's ability). Inside, the hall has two floors, with snow drifts covering the original flooring and icicles hanging from the vaulted ceiling. The upper gallery has a Treasure Chest containing a rare material.
Basement Crypts
Below the great hall, a stairway leads to partially flooded crypts. Stalnox enemies guard the innermost crypt chamber. The crypts also contain ore deposits of Sapphire, Amber, and Luminous Stone embedded in the frozen walls.
The Tower
A single standing tower in the northeast corner can be climbed using Ascend through its floors. The tower roof has a clear sky view, making it an ideal launch point for paragliding toward nearby sky islands.
Enemies
| Enemy | Location | Strategy | |-------|----------|----------| | Black Bokoblins | Courtyard | Ranged opener, melee finish | | Ice Keese | Hall interior | Fire arrows | | Frost Talus | Open area east of ruins | Fire arrows + melee on deposit | | Stalnox | Basement crypt | Standard Stalnox — shoot eye on collapse | | Gloom Hands (rare spawn) | Near crypt entrance | Kite and burst with fire |
Loot and Rewards
| Source | Loot | |--------|------| | Treasure Chest (Great Hall) | Frostbite Shirt or equivalent cold gear | | Treasure Chest (Tower) | Sapphire x3 | | Stalnox kill | Stalnox Horn, Hinox Bone | | Ore deposits | Sapphire, Luminous Stone | | Frost Talus | Sapphire, Amber |
Side Quest Connection
A traveler NPC named Perda is looking for a researcher who went missing investigating Snowpeak Ruins. She can be found at Snowfield Stable. If you speak with her before exploring, you can trigger a short journal-recovery side quest that adds lore context to the ruins' backstory. The journal entries hint at Sheikah scholars cataloguing the ruins for ancient Zonai-era connections.
Tips
- The interior temperature is slightly warmer than outside — one layer of cold resist may be sufficient once inside
- Ascend works on all the interior floors, dramatically speeding up vertical movement through the tower
- The Stalnox fight in the crypt is tight quarters — use a long reach weapon and stay near the entrance for retreat space
- Blood Moon respawns the Stalnox and ore deposits on a predictable schedule — mark Snowpeak for regular farming runs
- The ruins connect thematically to the Hebra Mountains side quest chain around the Blizzrobe enemies
