Stealth Armor Guide — Tears of the Kingdom
The Stealth Armor set is the best sneaking equipment in Tears of the Kingdom, sold at the Enchanted shop in Kakariko Village. Wearing all three pieces gives noise reduction that lets Link approach enemies, animals, and Lynels without triggering alert mode — and at higher upgrade tiers, dramatically multiplies sneak attack damage.
Where to Buy
Purchase the full set from Enchanted, the armor shop in Kakariko Village (southeast of Lookout Landing, accessible via the Sahasra Slope or Dueling Peaks Stable road):
| Piece | Cost | |-------|------| | Stealth Mask | 500 Rupees | | Stealth Chest Guard | 600 Rupees | | Stealth Tights | 550 Rupees |
Total cost: 1,650 Rupees. Stock up on rupees by farming ores at Eldin mines, selling excess food, or completing treasure chest quests in Tarrey Town before visiting.
Set Bonuses by Upgrade Tier
| Tier | Bonus | Rupee Cost Each | |------|-------|-----------------| | Tier 1 (★) | Stealth Up | 10 Rupees | | Tier 2 (★★) | Stealth Up + Night Speed Up | 50 Rupees | | Tier 3 (★★★) | Stealth Up + Night Speed Up + Sneakstrike Up | 200 Rupees | | Tier 4 (★★★★) | All above, max defense | 500 Rupees |
Tier 2 is the first major milestone — the Night Speed Up bonus lets Link move significantly faster in the dark, making nighttime exploration and hunting far more efficient.
Tier 3 unlocks the Sneakstrike Up set bonus, which multiplies sneak attack damage by approximately 8x. This is transformative — a tier 3 sneak attack with a strong weapon can kill Silver Bokoblins in one hit. Prioritize tier 3 for combat efficiency.
Upgrade Materials
Tier 1
- Sunset Firefly × 3 (per piece)
- Found at night in forests around Kakariko, Korok Forest approaches, and Lake Akkala
Tier 2
- Sunset Firefly × 5
- Blue Nightshade × 5
- Blue Nightshade grows in dark cave systems and forest clearings at night
Tier 3
- Sunset Firefly × 10
- Blue Nightshade × 5
- Stealthfin Trout × 5 (caught in dark ponds, especially in Lanayru and Necluda lakes at night)
Tier 4
- Sunset Firefly × 15
- Blue Nightshade × 10
- Stealthfin Trout × 10
- Star Fragment × 1
Farming Sunset Fireflies
The most efficient firefly farm is the forest path west of Kakariko Village just after 9:00 PM in-game. Sit at a campfire near the village well until night, then walk the forest trail — fireflies appear in clusters under the trees. Collect 30+ in one night circuit. Use the Sensor+ (set to Firefly) to track their exact positions.
When to Use the Stealth Armor
Against Lynels
Approach sleeping Lynels at dawn or dusk wearing the full set. At tier 2+, you can reach melee distance and mount directly without waking the Lynel. Mounted hits count as free attacks that do not consume weapon durability — one mount approach gets you 5–7 free strikes.
Against Stalhorses and Wild Horses
The Stealth set is essential for approaching wild horses without spooking them. Approach from the rear in a crouch while wearing the set for reliable non-alert captures. High-tier wild horses (4 stars+) are especially skittish — tier 2 stealth is the minimum for a clean approach.
At Yiga Clan Hideouts
Infiltrating Yiga Clan outposts is significantly easier with the Stealth set. Yiga Blademasters patrol fixed routes — the full stealth set lets you shadow them through their patrol cycle and eliminate them with one sneak attack before alarms sound.
Depths Exploration
Silent movement through the Depths prevents Gloom-Hands spawn triggers in some areas. While the Depths primarily respond to proximity rather than sound, the night speed bonus of tier 2 makes clearing large darkened chambers faster.
Stealth Armor vs. Sheikah Eye Elixirs
Stealth Armor is better for sustained sneaking across entire dungeons or long hunts. Sneaky Elixirs (Sunset Firefly + Bokoblin Guts or similar) provide a timed stealth boost without requiring armor swaps — useful when you need full armor for combat but a brief sneak approach.
Best strategy: Wear the Stealth set for approach, swap to combat armor (Fierce Deity, Phantom Ganon) before the first hit if prolonged combat is expected.
Key Tips
- Sleep at an inn or campfire to advance to nighttime for firefly farming and stealth hunts — don't wait in real-time
- Crouch-walk (ZL) reduces your noise radius regardless of armor — combine it with the full Stealth set for maximum effect
- Sneakstrike from above for maximum damage amplification — drop on enemies from ledges for a fall-height bonus on top of the 8x sneakstrike multiplier
- Combine with Sunny Milk or Fairy Tonic to ensure full hearts before engaging enemies alerted during failed sneaking
- The Stealth set stacks with Stealth Up food buffs (cooked with Blue Nightshade or Flower) for extreme invisibility useful against Lynels at any tier
