Where to Get Swords in TotK: Best One-Handed Blades
Swords are the most common weapon type in Tears of the Kingdom and your primary tool for Fuse builds. Knowing where to find high-tier blades and how to keep your stock fresh is essential for consistent combat performance. One-handed swords give you the flexibility to use a shield simultaneously, making them the go-to weapon class for players who prefer a defensive style. This guide covers all major sword types, locations, and the best fuse strategies for each.
One-Handed Swords: The Basics
Swords in TotK fall into three speed and power tiers:
- Short swords (Traveler's Sword, Forest Dweller's Sword): Fast swing speed, low base damage, good for early game when Fuse materials are limited
- Broadswords (Soldier's Broadsword, Knight's Broadsword, Royal Broadsword): Medium speed, medium base damage — the workhorse tier
- Heavy one-handers (Eightfold Blade, Eightfold Longblade): Slower swing but highest base damage in the one-handed class, excellent Fuse targets
The broadsword tier is where you'll spend most of the game. Maintaining a stock of Knight's and Royal Broadswords fuels your Fuse economy throughout mid-game and endgame.
Key Sword Locations
Soldier's Broadsword (Base 16 ATK)
The standard mid-game sword and a reliable early workhorse. Drops from:
- Bokoblin camps in northern Hyrule (Akkala, Eldin regions) — any camp with Blue or Black Bokoblins
- Constructed Soldier enemies in and around Hyrule Castle surroundings
- Lookout Landing guards — the soldiers patrolling near Lookout Landing carry these and respawn with Blood Moons
- Treasure chests in Lanayru Shrines and early cave systems
The Soldier's Broadsword is reliable enough to keep 2-3 in rotation for general fuse use while saving better swords for tough encounters.
Knight's Broadsword (Base 26 ATK)
A meaningful step up in power. Find at:
- Silver Bokoblin and Silver Moblin drops — the Silver variants of common enemies in post-Gloom areas
- Hyrule Castle outer wall chest rooms — the exterior sections before the main gatehouse
- Stalkoblin and Stallin drops in the Depths (rare, but reliable once you're navigating Lightroots)
- Yiga Clan Hideout secondary rooms
The Knight's Broadsword is your bread-and-butter fuse base for mid-game. Fuse a Gibdo Bone to a Knight's Broadsword and you have a competent weapon for most of the game's content.
Royal Broadsword (Base 36 ATK)
High-tier sword. Find at:
- Hyrule Castle interior chests — the inner sanctum rooms before the throne area
- Rare drops from Royal Guard enemies inside Hyrule Castle
- Some Depths chest caches near Lightroots in the central Depths region
- Yiga Clan hideouts — the more advanced Yiga Footsoldiers occasionally carry Royal-tier weapons
The Royal Broadsword is an excellent Fuse base for endgame content. Pair it with a Silver Lynel Saber Horn for one of the strongest single-swing weapons available.
Captain's Sword (Base 18 ATK)
A reliable respawning sword found in Bokoblin camps led by Bokoblin Captains. These camps respawn fully with each Blood Moon, making the Captain's Sword a renewable resource if you're building toward Fuse combinations. Check larger camps in Eldin and Akkala for Captain variants.
Vicious Sickle (Yiga Clan Drop)
The Yiga Clan's signature weapon drops from Yiga Footsoldiers and Blademasters throughout Hyrule. It has a distinctive curved shape and solid base stats for a mid-game weapon. Yiga Clan encounters are semi-random on roads and cave networks — you'll accumulate these naturally as you explore.
Scimitar of the Seven (Base 28 ATK, Gerudo Region)
The ceremonial sword of Gerudo champions. Obtain it by:
- Gerudo Town shop after completing the Lightning Temple main quest — available for purchase
- Dropping from the Gibdo boss in the Lightning Temple (one-time)
The Scimitar of the Seven is a quest-locked weapon until the Lightning Temple is cleared. After that, it's purchasable and a solid mid-game option for Gerudo region content.
Zora Longsword (Zora's Domain)
Available from the Zora's Domain armor shop for 160 rupees — an honest, straightforward purchase with no quest prerequisite. The Zora Longsword has good base damage for its cost and is one of the few reliable ways to stock up on decent swords without farming enemies. If your sword inventory is running low before a dungeon run, make the trip to Zora's Domain.
Savage Lynel Sword (Base 36+ ATK — White Lynel Drops)
The Lynel-tier swords are among the best one-handed weapons in the game. White Lynels drop the Savage Lynel Sword with 36+ base attack — a formidable base for Fuse builds. Lynels are high-difficulty optional encounters, but once you're equipped for it, farming White and Silver Lynels for their weapons is the most efficient path to endgame sword stacks.
Silver Lynel drops include the Silver Lynel Saber variant with even higher base values. Add a Silver Lynel Saber Horn via Fuse and you're looking at one of the highest damage one-handed setups in the game.
The Master Sword
The Master Sword is obtained by climbing the Light Dragon — Zelda in her dragon form — which circles the upper sky island layer of Hyrule. The sword sits in her forehead and must be pulled free in the classic sword-in-stone fashion.
Requirements:
- Two full rings of stamina (minimum) to pull the sword before your stamina runs out
- Or supplement incomplete stamina rings with Enduring Stamina food (cooked Endura Carrot dishes are the most reliable)
- Mount the Light Dragon from a sky island edge or skydive onto her back from above
The Master Sword has 30 base attack and an infinite-durability recharge mechanic — when fully depleted, it recharges over 10 real-time minutes. It never permanently breaks. For long adventure sessions, this makes it a reliable mainstay sword even if its base damage is lower than Lynel-tier weapons. Fuse a high-damage material to boost its output even further.
Fuse Optimization for Swords
Swords are the primary Fuse weapon class. Best materials by tier:
- Silver Lynel Saber Horn (adds ~55 ATK): Best one-handed fuse material in the game. Reserve for Royal Broadswords or the Master Sword
- Gibdo Bone (adds ~45 ATK): Easier to obtain than Lynel horns. Farm Gibdo encounters in Gerudo and Lightning Temple areas
- Black Boss Bokoblin Horn: Solid mid-game fuse addition, widely available from Black variant Bokoblin camps
- Dragon Horn shards (adds ~25 ATK): Farmable from the four elemental dragons circling the sky. Consistent but lower ceiling than Lynel materials
- Amber / Flint: Budget fuse materials for early game — adds minimal damage but better than nothing
Tips
- Knight's and Royal Broadswords respawn with Blood Moons — farm Hyrule Castle for a consistent supply. The outer ring of the castle replenishes Royal Guards with every Blood Moon
- Keep 3-5 swords in inventory at all times and fuse the best available material. A fused sword outlasts two unfused swords in most fights
- Swords with 5+ hits remaining are worth fusing — don't fuse a nearly-broken blade. Save Fuse materials for fresh weapons
- The Zora Longsword from Zora's Domain side quests has solid base stats and is essentially free — worth picking up any time you're passing through the region
- For Lynel farming: Perfect Dodge (Flurry Rush) and mount the Lynel's back for free sword hits. Once you're comfortable with Lynel combat, they're the best weapon farm in the game
