DRAGON GUIDE

TotK Dragon Paths & Parts

Four dragons roam Hyrule's skies in Tears of the Kingdom — three ancient elemental spirits and one golden dragon carrying the Master Sword. Each drops unique parts used for the highest-tier armor upgrades, powerful weapon fusions, and extended elixir durations. Here is everything you need to know about finding, farming, and using every dragon part.

Dragon Farming Rules

One part per encounter

Each dragon only drops ONE material per encounter. After collecting a part, the dragon glows and becomes untargetable until the next Blood Moon resets it.

Shoot specific body parts

Scale = torso/tail. Claw = feet. Fang = mouth/jaw. Horn shard = horn tip. Spike = back spines. Hit precisely for the part you need.

Approach from above

All elemental dragons have dangerous auras (fire, ice, or electricity). Always glide down from above using Skyview Towers, Sky Islands, or Zonai devices.

Parts glow on the ground

Dragon parts fall straight down after being shot. They'll land on the ground below with a bright glow — look for the sparkle to collect them.

Bullet time is essential

Draw your bow while airborne to enter bullet time (slow motion). This makes it dramatically easier to aim at specific body parts like the tiny horn tip.

Horn shards are the best

Horn shards give +26 fusion damage and 30:00 cooking duration — the highest of any dragon part. Always aim for the horn tip if you can.

Dragon Farming

Always launch from a Skyview Tower to intercept dragons. Enter bullet time (draw bow mid-air) for precise body-part targeting. Horn shards give +26 fusion damage and 30-minute cooking duration — the most valuable part on every dragon.

Schedule

Emerges from the Eldin Canyon chasm around midnight (00:00). Best intercepted between midnight and dawn (00:00–07:00). The Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower launch at 00:30–01:00 puts you directly in Dinraal's path at near-perfect altitude — this is the single most reliable Dinraal intercept in the game. From 03:00 to 07:00, Dinraal is typically crossing the Akkala Highlands, making it accessible from the Akkala Citadel Ruins cliff or from a direct launch from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower. From 08:00 to 12:00 it crosses Tabantha and the Tanagar Canyon — launch from Lindor's Brow Skyview Tower for a clean afternoon interception. Around 14:00–18:00, Dinraal is descending back toward central Hyrule and can be spotted from the high plateaus of Hyrule Ridge. Returns underground near 20:00–22:00, descending into the Eldin Canyon chasm. CAMPFIRE TRICK: Set up a campfire at the Eldin Canyon chasm overlook, sleep until midnight, then immediately launch from the nearby Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower for a guaranteed intercept on every single cycle without travel.

The crimson spirit of fire, Dinraal is the massive red dragon that patrols the Eldin region and radiates intense heat from its body that deals constant fire damage to unprotected travelers. Approaching too close without at least level 1 fire resistance will set Link ablaze and rapidly burn through hearts — level 2 Flamebreaker protection fully negates the aura. Dinraal is named after Din, the Goddess of Power, and its fiery aura scorches the ground and any flora beneath its flight path, leaving charred craters visible from the cliffs of Eldin Canyon. The dragon's scales glow a molten orange-red, and rings of superheated air distort the sky around it like a living heat mirage. It is one of the three ancient elemental dragons that have roamed Hyrule since before the Zonai civilization, and ancient stone carvings in Eldin shrines depict Dinraal coiled around Death Mountain like a living crown of fire. Local Gorons have worshipped Dinraal as a deity of volcanic power for generations, calling it "The Red Coil" in old Goron stone texts found near Goron City. Unlike the other elemental dragons, Dinraal's path intersects with the most diverse set of biomes — volcanic rock, boreal forest, arctic cliffs, and grassy plains — making its scale and horn drops farmable from a wide variety of intercept points across northern Hyrule. Its dorsal spines are tipped in a deeper crimson than its body scales, and each spine radiates a visible heat shimmer that can be seen from hundreds of meters away. Collecting parts from Dinraal requires precise arrow aim: each part zone on the body is distinct, and hitting the wrong zone drops a scale instead of the targeted part. Mastering Dinraal farming is a rite of passage for any TotK player who wants to maximize cooking buff durations for endgame boss fights.

Flight Path

Dinraal follows a large counterclockwise loop through northern and northwestern Hyrule, emerging from the Eldin Canyon Depths chasm around midnight (00:00) and rising steeply from underground near the base of Death Mountain. It then climbs northeast over the Death Mountain summit, briefly grazing the volcanic caldera before banking sharply west into the Akkala Highlands at moderate altitude — high enough to see clearly but low enough to intercept from the ridge above Akkala Citadel Ruins. From Akkala it sweeps northwest, crossing the Typhlo Ruins and the dense woodlands south of the Korok Forest before turning west toward the Tabantha Frontier. Over the Tanagar Canyon it descends slightly, threading between canyon walls before curving south back toward Hyrule Ridge and then east through the Eldin approaches to return to its chasm emergence point. The full circuit takes roughly one full in-game day (24 game-hours, approximately 24 real-world minutes). On the Surface, Dinraal flies at a moderate altitude — typically 300 to 500 meters above sea level in open areas — which is reachable from tall cliffs, Skyview Tower launches, and high Sky Islands positioned along the northern route. In the Depths, it follows a mirrored underground path through the Eldin Depths and Akkala Depths corridors, flying at a lower absolute altitude where the underground ceiling compresses its range. Intercept windows on the Surface are widest near Death Mountain (where the steep volcanic terrain brings the dragon close to accessible cliff vantage points) and in the Tanagar Canyon corridor (where canyon walls channel Dinraal into a predictable tight pass). The dragon's path over the Akkala Highlands crosses directly above the ancient Akkala Citadel Ruins, making the northeast tower of the Citadel one of the most underrated intercept platforms in the game — the elevation nearly matches Dinraal's flight altitude at that point. Experienced players use the Woodland Stable area along the southern Korok Forest border as a midpoint camping spot to catch the early-morning Tabantha leg if they missed the Death Mountain emergence.

Spawn Regions

Shard of Dinraal's HornTip of either horn on the head — must strike the very point of the horn, not the base or mid-horn. The horn tip glows a distinct deep-crimson and shows a gem-crack visual effect when struck correctly. Hitting the base registers as a scale drop. Use bullet time from directly in front of or above the head for the clearest angle on the tip.+26 attack power when fused to a weapon. Adds fire damage that ignites flammable terrain, lights campfires on contact, and deals significant bonus damage to ice-type enemies including Frost Gleeoks, Ice Wizzrobes, and Gibdos. The single most powerful elemental weapon fusion available before the Master Sword, and tied with Naydra and Farosh horn shards at +26 attack. Pairs particularly well with Royal Claymores and Savage Lynel Crushers for a devastating fire greatsword.300 Rupees
Dinraal's FangMouth and jaw area — aim for the open mouth interior or the sides of the jaw near the visible teeth when Dinraal is head-on. The jaw glows orange-red. A clean fang hit shows orange sparks. The mouth is widest when Dinraal is climbing or banking — these are the best moments to target the interior.+20 attack power when fused. Adds fire damage on hit, with a chance to ignite wooden shields and light environmental objects. Good mid-tier fire weapon fusion. Required for Great Fairy armor upgrades at tier 3 on fire-element sets. Pairs well with Soldier Spears and Knight Broadswords for a versatile fire one-hander.250 Rupees
Dinraal's ClawFront or rear claws and feet — aim for the talons on the underside when Dinraal passes directly overhead. The claws are easiest to hit from below as the dragon flies over a cliff edge or the Tanagar Canyon walls. Front claws are larger targets than rear claws. A clean claw hit shows a distinct orange-red spark burst different from the scale hit effect.+18 attack power when fused. Adds fire element to any weapon type. Good for early-game fire builds before unlocking stronger fusion materials. Pairs especially well with heavy two-handed weapons for a powerful fire greatsword. Required for Great Fairy armor upgrades at tier 2 on the Flamebreaker Armor set (Flamebreaker Boots, Flamebreaker Helm, Flamebreaker Armor body).180 Rupees
Dinraal's ScaleMain body and torso — the large flat flank sections along the mid-body, anywhere not explicitly covered by other part zones. This is the largest target zone on Dinraal's body, making it the easiest part to farm in bulk. Aim for the broad red side flanks when Dinraal flies past at close range. A scale hit shows a dull red glow rather than the bright spark of a claw or fang hit.+12 attack power when fused. Adds minor fire damage. Best used for cooking rather than weapon fusion given its low attack bonus. Required in the largest quantities for Great Fairy armor upgrades — stock up on scales by deliberately targeting the torso during farming sessions. Needed for tier 1 and tier 2 upgrades on the Flamebreaker Armor, Ember Shirt, and Ember Trousers.150 Rupees
Dinraal's SpikeBack spines and dorsal ridge — the row of prominent red spines along the spine from neck to tail. The dorsal ridge is visible from directly above or from the sides. Spikes are medium-sized targets — easier than the horn tip but harder than the broad torso. A spike hit shows a burst of embers and a red-orange flash distinct from the scale hit.+14 attack power when fused. Adds fire element. A decent fusion option for mid-game fire weapons. Required for tier 3 upgrades on the Flamebreaker Armor body piece. Also useful for upgrading the Barbarian Armor set at Great Fairy Mija (Eldin region fairy fountain).100 Rupees

Farming Tips

FASTEST ROUTE: Launch from the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower at exactly 00:30 game time. Dinraal has just emerged and is climbing toward Death Mountain. You will intercept it at roughly 200–300 meters altitude with a wide forward angle shot. This is the single most efficient Dinraal farming window in the game — zero travel required, guaranteed spawn, clean shot angle.

DO NOT USE FIRE ARROWS: Dinraal is completely immune to fire damage. Fire arrows will bounce off harmlessly and waste ammunition. Use regular (standard) arrows for reliable part drops. Ice arrows technically work but waste precious cold-element ammo. Shock arrows function and briefly stun-spark the dragon, but regular arrows are more plentiful and equally effective for part targeting.

FLAMEBREAKER ARMOR IS MANDATORY: Equip the full Flamebreaker Armor set (sold in Goron City in Eldin — three pieces for approximately 1,500 rupees total) for level 2 fire resistance. At level 1 (one piece), you take reduced but ongoing fire damage and will die on extended contact. At level 2 (full set), Dinraal's heat aura is completely negated and you can ride the dragon indefinitely.

BULLET TIME IS NON-NEGOTIABLE: Hold ZR to aim your bow while airborne (after jumping from a cliff, launching from a Skyview Tower, or mid-glide) — this triggers slow-motion bullet time that is MANDATORY for hitting precise body parts like the horn tip at range. Without bullet time, Dinraal moves too fast for reliable targeting. Jump first, draw bow second.

Riding Bonus

Riding Dinraal's back grants temporary fire immunity — the intense heat aura that normally deals ongoing fire damage to Link is completely negated while you are physically on the dragon. Use this window to access areas near Death Mountain's peak without Flamebreaker Armor, scout Sky Islands above Eldin Canyon from the dragon's back, or reposition for a perfect close-range horn shot. To mount Dinraal safely: glide onto the mid-back (away from the neck where fire is most intense) from a cliff position above the dragon's flight path, or time a jump as it passes below. Once on the back, crouch and move slowly toward the head — the dragon banks and sways but the movement is predictable. The view from Dinraal's back over northern Hyrule — Death Mountain's volcanic plume to the east, the Akkala Highlands to the northeast, the Tabantha snowfields to the west — is one of the most dramatic in the game and cannot be replicated from any static viewpoint.

Schedule

Emerges near the base of Mount Lanayru around 05:00 (dawn). Best intercepted between 05:00 and 09:00. The Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower offers a direct launch into Naydra's ascent path — launch at 05:30 and you will intercept the dragon while it climbs from the chasm, giving a clean forward-facing shot angle. From 09:00 to 12:00, Naydra is crossing Lanayru Bay and can be intercepted from the cliffs east of Zora's Domain — no cold resistance required in this zone. From 10:00 to 11:00, Naydra passes directly overhead of Zora's Domain, visible from the King Dorephan statue overlook. Around 12:00–15:00 it crosses the Lanayru Wetlands — visible from Wetland Stable. From 15:00 to 17:00 it approaches Kakariko Village overhead. From 17:00 to 19:00, Naydra crosses the Dueling Peaks canyon — the most accessible cold-free intercept window. After 19:00, Naydra heads east toward Mount Lanayru and descends underground near 22:00–23:00. CAMPFIRE TRICK: Set a campfire on the Mount Lanayru summit platform and sleep until 05:00 — Naydra emerges from the chasm almost directly below for a point-blank guaranteed shot.

The sapphire spirit of ice, Naydra is the blue dragon that haunts the frozen peaks of Mount Lanayru and the eastern coastline of Hyrule, radiating extreme cold from its body in a perpetual ice-crystal halo. Getting too close without cold resistance will freeze Link solid — a full freeze leaves him unable to act for several seconds, during which he will fall from cliff or take follow-up damage. Naydra is named after Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom, and its demeanor is the most serene of the three elemental spirits, gliding through the morning air with a slow, contemplative grace rarely seen in the other dragons. Its scales are an iridescent blue-white, and ice crystals trail behind it like a frozen contrail that catches the dawn light over the Lanayru Sea. Naydra is widely considered the hardest of the three elemental dragons to farm consistently due to the extreme altitude requirements, mandatory cold resistance gear, and complex terrain of Mount Lanayru and the eastern coastline. The Zora people revere Naydra as a divine presence connected to the Lanayru springs — ancient Zora scripture found in Zora Domain calls it "the serpent that purifies the waters" and associates it with Nayru's divine mercy. In Breath of the Wild, Naydra was corrupted by Calamity Ganon and had to be cleansed with Stasis shots at the peak of Mount Lanayru. In TotK, it has been free of corruption for 100+ years and flies its natural circuit undisturbed. Its ice crystals shed as it flies are sometimes harvested by Zora children in the early morning mists, though approaching the dragon itself requires a seasoned adventurer with full cold-resistance gear. The horn tip delivers a 30-minute cooking buff duration extension — the maximum possible — making every difficult Naydra farming attempt fully worthwhile for endgame progression.

Flight Path

Naydra emerges from the Depths chasm near the base of Mount Lanayru in the early morning, rising steeply through cold fog and climbing over the peak of Mount Lanayru itself — the highest point on its entire circuit at roughly 1,100 meters above sea level. It sweeps west along the Lanayru Bay coastline toward Zora's Domain, dipping low enough over the water that it's visible from the Throne Room bridge if you know where to look. The dragon continues northwest, passing over the Lanayru Wetlands at moderate altitude before curving south past Kakariko Village and the Necluda highlands. From Kakariko it turns east, crossing the Dueling Peaks canyon at relatively low altitude — the Dueling Peaks themselves are a reliable intercept point since the dragon threads between the twin summits. It then loops back east across the Necluda Sea coastline and returns to Mount Lanayru for another cycle. In the Depths, it follows a mirrored underground path through the Lanayru Depths region, where its shed ice crystals illuminate the underground passages with a ghostly blue glow that can be spotted from hundreds of meters away. The Dueling Peaks crossing is the most accessible part of Naydra's route — it occurs in the afternoon, requires no cold resistance gear, and can be intercepted from the peak summits or the East Necluda Skyview Tower without any Zonai devices. The dawn emergence from Mount Lanayru is the most dramatic but technically demanding intercept, requiring level 2 cold resistance and precise Skyview Tower timing.

Spawn Regions

Mount Lanayru summit and chasm base — dawn emergence (05:00)
Lanayru Bay eastern coastline (09:00–12:00)
Zora's Domain directly overhead (10:00–11:00)
Lanayru Wetlands midpoint crossing (12:00–15:00)
Kakariko Village and Necluda highlands overhead (15:00–17:00)
Dueling Peaks canyon corridor — low-altitude crossing (17:00–19:00)
Necluda Sea return leg east (19:00–22:00)
Depths — mirrored path through Lanayru Depths underground corridors

Shard of Naydra's HornTip of either horn on the head — the very point of the ice-blue horn, not the base or mid-horn. The horn tip glows a distinct icy white-blue and shows an ice-crystal burst when struck correctly. Hitting the mid-horn or base registers as a scale drop. The dawn emergence from Mount Lanayru is the ideal window: Naydra's head is angled upward as it climbs, exposing the horn tip at a clean angle from directly in front.+26 attack power when fused to a weapon. Adds ice damage that can freeze enemies on hit. Frozen enemies shatter for massive bonus damage with a follow-up strike — against a frozen Lizalfos, a fully charged two-hander hits for nearly triple normal damage. One of the top-tier weapon fusions in the game alongside Dinraal and Farosh horn shards. Pairs especially well with long-range bows for freeze-at-a-distance tactics and two-handed weapons for the freeze-shatter combo.300 Rupees
Naydra's FangMouth and jaw area — aim for the open mouth interior or the sides of the jaw near the visible teeth. The fang zone shows a blue-white ice spark effect when struck correctly. The mouth opens widest when Naydra is banking or climbing steeply. Target the jaw from the front during the Mount Lanayru ascent for the clearest angle.+20 attack power when fused. Adds ice damage and can freeze enemies on contact. The freeze effect is especially powerful in enclosed spaces where frozen enemies cannot retreat. Required for Great Fairy armor upgrades at tier 3 on cold-resistance sets. Pairs well with spears for ranged freeze tactics against groups.250 Rupees
Naydra's ClawFront or rear claws and feet — aim for the blue-white talons on the underside when Naydra passes overhead. Easiest to hit at the Dueling Peaks crossing where Naydra flies relatively low. Climb to the Dueling Peaks summits and shoot downward at the claws as the dragon threads below. The claw hit shows a distinctive ice-blue spark burst.+18 attack power when fused. Adds ice element. Good early-game ice weapon upgrade when Naydra Fangs are scarce. Required for tier 2 upgrades on the Snowquill Armor set (Snowquill Headdress, Tunic, and Trousers) at Great Fairy Kaysa in Rito Village. Saved claws accelerate Snowquill set upgrades significantly.180 Rupees
Naydra's ScaleMain body and torso — the large flat blue-white flank sections along the mid-body, the largest target zone on Naydra. Target the broad flanks when Naydra glides past at close range. A scale hit shows a dull blue-white shimmer effect rather than the bright sparks of a claw or fang hit. The torso is the best default target for bulk farming sessions where you just need duration ingredients for cooking.+12 attack power when fused. Adds minor ice damage. Best used for cooking duration bonuses rather than weapon fusion. Required in the highest quantities for Great Fairy armor upgrades — tier 1 and 2 upgrades on Snowquill Armor use scales. Also required for Frostbite Shirt and Trousers from the Depths at higher upgrade tiers.150 Rupees
Naydra's SpikeBack spines and dorsal ridge — the row of prominent blue-white ice spines running from neck to tail. The dorsal ridge is visible from directly above or from the sides at close range. Spikes are medium-sized targets — easier than the horn tip but harder than the broad torso. Best targeted from above when riding Naydra or gliding from Mount Lanayru peak directly onto the dragon's back.+14 attack power when fused. Adds ice element. Good mid-game ice fusion for spears and one-handers. Required for tier 3 upgrades on the Snowquill Armor body piece at Great Fairy Kaysa.100 Rupees

Farming Tips

COLD RESISTANCE IS MANDATORY FOR MOUNT LANAYRU: Mount Lanayru is a level 2 cold zone. Without adequate cold resistance you will freeze solid and fall off the mountain cliffs. Equip the full Snowquill Armor set (purchased from Rito Village shop for approximately 2,150 rupees total) for level 2 cold resistance, or cook three Spicy Peppers + raw meat for a cold-resist meal.

BEST INTERCEPT — MOUNT LANAYRU SKYVIEW TOWER AT DAWN: Launch from the tower at 05:30 and Naydra will be ascending from the chasm below. Angle your glide toward it and enter bullet time immediately for a clean forward horn shot from above. This is the most efficient single Naydra farming window.

DUELING PEAKS — NO COLD GEAR REQUIRED: Between 17:00 and 19:00, Naydra threads through the Dueling Peaks canyon at relatively low altitude — often below the peak elevation itself. Climb to either Dueling Peaks summit or launch from the East Necluda Skyview Tower for an easy intercept that requires zero cold resistance and no specialty gear.

ICE ARROWS ARE COMPLETELY USELESS: Naydra is immune to ice damage. Use standard arrows only. Fire arrows work but waste valuable flame ammo. Shock arrows function and stun-spark the dragon but are better conserved for combat.

Riding Bonus

Riding Naydra's back grants complete temporary cold immunity — the freezing aura that would otherwise freeze Link solid is fully negated while physically on the dragon. This is incredibly useful for exploring the frozen peaks of Mount Lanayru or the frigid Hebra highlands without cold-resistance food or Snowquill gear. To safely mount Naydra: glide onto the mid-back from above while the dragon is at its highest point over Mount Lanayru, timing a dive from the Skyview Tower so you land on the spine. Walk slowly along the spine toward the head for a close-range horn shot. The ice crystals orbiting the dragon will not harm you once you are on its back. Riding Naydra near Zora's Domain is particularly scenic — the dragon's body framed against the Domain's glowing waterfalls and the Lanayru Sea below is one of TotK's most striking visual moments and well worth experiencing even outside of a farming session.

Farosh

Lightning

Schedule

Emerges at Lake Hylia and the Bridge of Hylia at sunrise (05:00–06:00). This is the single most reliable dragon spawn point in all of TotK. The Bridge of Hylia provides a perfectly flat, elevated platform to stand on and wait — no climbing, no Skyview Tower, no cold resistance required. From 06:00 to 10:00, Farosh is crossing the Dracozu River and Faron rainforest, accessible from Lakeside Stable's cliffs or the Popla Foothills Tower. From 10:00 to 14:00 it nears the Lurelin Village coastline — visible from the beach. From 14:00 to 18:00 it traverses the Popla Foothills return leg heading northwest. From 18:00 to 23:00 it crosses Hyrule Field heading north back toward Lake Hylia. Returns underground around 23:00–00:00. FARMING LOOP: Sleep at a campfire on the Bridge of Hylia until morning (05:00), Farosh emerges directly in front of you, shoot the part, collect it from the lake shore or bridge, sleep again. One part every ~10 real-world minutes with zero travel or combat preparation.

The emerald spirit of lightning, Farosh is the vivid green dragon that crackles with living electricity as it soars through the lush, rain-soaked Faron region. Lightning orbs the size of pumpkins orbit its body in constant motion, and a crackling electrical field surrounds it in a 10-meter radius that shocks any unprotected traveler on contact. Any metal object — weapons, shields, bows — will conduct the electricity and shock Link, causing him to drop whatever he is holding and take moderate electrical damage. Farosh is named after Farore, the Goddess of Courage, and it embodies the crackling, unpredictable energy of a tropical thunderstorm rolling off the Faron rainforest. Its scales shift between emerald green and golden yellow as the electrical field fluctuates — a visual indicator of how close the lightning discharge is to triggering. Farosh's flight path through the tropical Faron region — the most lush and biodiverse area in Hyrule — makes it the most scenic dragon to encounter, particularly the dawn emergence from Lake Hylia. Lurelin Village fishermen tell stories of Farosh rising from Lake Hylia at dawn like a living sunrise, and the Faron rainforest animals scatter in all directions at its approach. Among the three elemental dragons, Farosh is widely considered the EASIEST to farm efficiently: the flat terrain around Lake Hylia makes dropped parts simple to retrieve, the Bridge of Hylia provides a perfect stationary platform, and the dawn emergence is the most predictable timing window of any dragon in the game. The electrical hazard is trivially managed by simply unequipping all metal gear before the encounter — replace with wooden weapons and the Wooden Shield. For players farming cooking ingredients in bulk, Farosh's Bridge of Hylia spawn point combined with the campfire-sleep trick makes it possible to collect a full stack of Horn Shards in a single dedicated farming session.

Flight Path

Farosh emerges from the Depths chasm at the source of the Dracozu River near Lake Hylia at sunrise, bursting through the water's surface in a dramatic electrical surge that creates a visible lightning pillar. It flies south along the Dracozu River corridor through the Faron rainforest canopy, passing directly over Lakeside Stable and the Floria Bridge, low enough that the electrical field scorches the treetops beneath it. It continues south toward Lurelin Village and the Faron coastline, sometimes dipping low enough to nearly skim the treetops. From the Faron coast it loops northwest through Niclofufu Cliff and the Popla Foothills before swinging north through Hyrule Field, crossing the Hylia River, and returning to the Lake Hylia emergence point to complete the circuit. In the Depths, it follows a mirrored underground path through the Faron Depths, where its lightning orbs create spectacular illumination of the underground caverns — useful as a navigation beacon in the otherwise dark Depths. The Lake Hylia emergence is the tightest, most reliable bottleneck on Farosh's entire route — the dragon cannot vary its entry point, making the Bridge of Hylia the single best farming location for any dragon in all of Tears of the Kingdom. Farosh passes directly over the Bridge of Hylia at its emergence, meaning a player standing on the bridge does not even need to move — just wait, draw bow, and fire.

Spawn Regions

Lake Hylia / Bridge of Hylia — chasm emergence at sunrise (05:00–06:00)
Dracozu River corridor through Faron rainforest (06:00–10:00)
Lakeside Stable cliff area and Floria Bridge (07:00–09:00)
Lurelin Village coastline and Faron Sea shore (10:00–14:00)
Popla Foothills and Niclofufu Cliff return leg (14:00–17:00)

Shard of Farosh's HornTip of either horn on the head — the very point of the crackling yellow-green horn, not the base or mid-horn. The horn tip glows a distinct bright yellow and shows an electric-spark burst when struck correctly. Hitting the base registers as a scale drop. From the Bridge of Hylia at dawn, Farosh moves toward you — draw bow, enter bullet time, and target the horn tip as the head crests the bridge elevation. This is the clearest horn-tip angle of any dragon in the game due to the head-on approach angle.+26 attack power when fused to a weapon. Adds electric damage that can stun enemies, interrupt their attacks mid-animation, and cause them to drop metal weapons — a free disarm mechanic against Bokoblins and Lizalfos. Particularly devastating against enemies wielding metal weapons in wet environments where the stun propagates. Tied with Dinraal and Naydra horn shards at +26 attack — the maximum available before the Master Sword.300 Rupees
Farosh's FangMouth and jaw area — aim for the open mouth interior or the sides of the jaw near the visible teeth. The fang zone glows yellow-green and shows an electric spark burst on correct hit. The jaw is widest open when Farosh is heading directly toward you at the Bridge of Hylia — use the head-on approach window for clean jaw shots.+20 attack power when fused. Adds electric damage and can stun enemies, causing them to momentarily seize and drop metal weapons — free disarms against Bokoblins and Moblins in wet zones. Required for Great Fairy armor upgrades at tier 3 on electric-themed sets. A reliable mid-game fusion for anyone wanting a shock weapon without hunting Shock Lizalfos Tails.250 Rupees
Farosh's ClawFront or rear claws and feet — aim for the green-gold talons on the underside as Farosh passes overhead over the Bridge of Hylia. Tilt your aim slightly downward as Farosh crests the bridge level — the claws are visible directly below the belly at the emergence point. The claw hit shows a yellow electric spark burst distinct from the scale shimmer.+18 attack power when fused. Adds electric element. Easy to farm in bulk due to the reliable Bridge of Hylia overhead pass — the most accessible claw drop target of any dragon. Required for tier 2 upgrades on the Rubber Armor set at Great Fairy Tera (Gerudo Desert region).180 Rupees
Farosh's ScaleMain body and torso — the large flat green flank sections, the easiest and most forgiving target zone on the body. Target the broad green-gold sides when Farosh passes at close range over the Bridge of Hylia. Scale hit shows a dull green-gold shimmer. Bulk-farm scales by deliberately targeting the torso during routine campfire farming loops at the Bridge.+12 attack power when fused. Adds minor electric damage. Best used for cooking duration bonuses rather than weapon fusion. Required in the highest quantities for Great Fairy armor upgrades — tier 1 and 2 upgrades on the Rubber Armor set use Farosh Scales. Also needed for tier 1–2 upgrades on Barbarian Armor and several Champion Tunic upgrade tiers.150 Rupees
Farosh's SpikeBack spines and dorsal ridge — the row of prominent green-gold spines running along the spine from neck to tail. The dorsal ridge is visible from directly above when gliding from the Bridge of Hylia overlook. Spikes that fall near the Bridge of Hylia land on the flat lake shore for easy retrieval — unlike mountain dragons where spikes roll off cliffs.+14 attack power when fused. Adds electric element. Good mid-game fusion for a shock spear or one-hander. Spikes land near the Bridge of Hylia or in the flat Hyrule Field zone when shot from above — easy to retrieve without cliff navigation. Required for tier 3 upgrades on the Rubber Armor body piece.100 Rupees

Farming Tips

CRITICAL — UNEQUIP ALL METAL GEAR BEFORE APPROACHING: Open your inventory and unequip every metal weapon, metal shield, and metal bow before any Farosh encounter. Replace with wooden equivalents: Tree Branch or any wooden weapon, Wooden Shield, and a standard non-metal bow (Traveler's Bow works fine). The electrical field WILL shock you, cause you to drop held metal equipment, and deal damage — dropping a Royal Halberd into Lake Hylia is an expensive lesson.

RUBBER ARMOR IS THE PERMANENT SOLUTION: The Rubber Armor set (Rubber Helm from the A Song of Storms shrine quest in Lanayru, Rubber Armor from the Thunder Magnet shrine quest in Akkala, Rubber Tights from the Secret of the Cedars shrine quest) provides full shock immunity at level 2. Fully upgrading the set means you can approach Farosh with any equipment equipped and take zero electrical damage whatsoever.

BRIDGE OF HYLIA — BEST FARMING SPOT IN THE ENTIRE GAME: Stand on the Bridge of Hylia at 05:00 facing east toward the Lake Hylia chasm. Farosh rises from directly in front of you. Draw bow, enter bullet time, shoot the horn tip as the head crests bridge level. The dragon moves TOWARD you at emergence — the horn is a clear stationary target. This is the most efficient dragon farming location in all of Tears of the Kingdom for any part, any dragon.

BULLET TIME OFF THE BRIDGE RAILING: For a wider bullet-time window, jump off the Bridge of Hylia railing and immediately draw your bow (ZR). The dragon rising directly toward you as you fall gives a 3–4 second aim window for a clean horn tip shot without complex maneuvering. The flat trajectory means the horn tip is the nearest point to your arrow.

Riding Bonus

Riding Farosh's back grants complete temporary shock immunity. The electrical field that would otherwise shock Link and cause metal weapon drops is fully negated while physically on the dragon's back. This is useful for exploring lightning-storm regions of Faron without Rubber Armor, and for reaching the Farosh-adjacent Sky Islands in the Faron sky region without worrying about the storm hazard below. To mount Farosh safely: use wooden equipment only during the approach, land on the mid-back while Farosh is gliding at its lowest point near the Faron rainforest, and walk toward the head for a close-range horn shot. The emerald-green scales crackling with visible electricity seen from atop Farosh — framed against the Faron rainforest canopy and the warm tropical sky — creates one of TotK's most dramatic and beautiful first-person perspectives. After a horn farming session, spend a few extra minutes on Farosh's back to survey the Faron region from altitude: Lurelin Village to the south, Lake Hylia to the north, the Dracozu River winding through the jungle below.

Schedule

Always present — the Light Dragon circles continuously with no day/night dependency and no fixed schedule. It is visible from any Skyview Tower as a golden glow high in the sky at any time of day or night. Use the Purah Pad dragon tracking feature (unlock at Hateno Ancient Tech Lab by speaking with Robbie) to see its exact real-time position and projected path on the map. This feature is non-negotiable for efficient Light Dragon farming — without it, intercepting a dragon at 1,500 meters altitude on a 25-minute circuit requires blind guessing. With the tracking feature active, pre-position on a high Sky Island along its route and wait for it to arrive — the wait is at most 20 minutes and gives time to farm the Sky Island's Zonai resources. The dragon completes a full Hyrule circuit every ~20–25 real minutes. If the dragon is on the far side of the map, use a campfire to sleep time forward by several in-game days while the dragon completes circuits.

The golden dragon of light — Princess Zelda herself, transformed. The Light Dragon is unique among TotK's dragons in every possible way: it is not an ancient elemental spirit, it has no dangerous elemental hazard, it circles the entire map rather than one region, it flies at extreme altitude above even the Sky Islands, and it carries the Master Sword embedded in its forehead. Most critically: it IS Princess Zelda. The opening of Tears of the Kingdom reveals that Zelda, transported to the distant past by Rauru's Void Tear, chose to swallow a Secret Stone and undergo Draconification — the irreversible transformation into a dragon that destroys all memories and individuality — specifically so she could carry the decaying Master Sword through thousands of years, allowing it to absorb her sacred power and be fully restored for Link in the present. The Light Dragon has circled Hyrule for over 10,000 years, always present, always watching, its golden form visible to anyone who looked up and knew what they were seeing. Its golden scales shimmer with an inner light unlike any natural creature, and divine light particles trail behind it like embers of sacred power drifting across the sky. There is no elemental aura — approaching the Light Dragon is peaceful, even sublime, a stark contrast to the searing heat of Dinraal, the killing cold of Naydra, or the shocking electricity of Farosh. It soars far above the chaos of Ganondorf's forces below, untouchable and serene, the embodiment of Zelda's sacrifice given permanent physical form. Recovering the Master Sword from the Light Dragon's head is one of TotK's most emotionally resonant moments — Link reclaiming his iconic blade from the literal body of the person he seeks to save. After retrieving the Master Sword, the dragon's forehead can be farmed for Light Dragon Horn Shards, the highest-value fusion material in the game outside of the Sword itself. The Light Dragon also serves as a slow-moving observation platform: ride it around its 20-minute circuit to survey all of Hyrule from 1,500 meters altitude, marking shrines, Korok seeds, and unexplored Sky Islands from the highest vantage point in the game.

Flight Path

The Light Dragon circles ALL of Hyrule in a single massive counterclockwise loop at extreme altitude — typically 1,500 to 2,000 meters above sea level. This is far above the three elemental dragons (which fly at 300–500 meters) and even above the highest accessible Sky Islands (which top out around 1,200 meters near Hyrule Castle). Its circuit encompasses the entire map: starting from the Gerudo Desert in the southwest, it moves north over the Gerudo Highlands and Tabantha Frontier, curves northeast over the Hebra Mountains and Rito Village area, continues east over the Great Hyrule Forest and Akkala region, descends southeast along the Lanayru coastline, passes over the Necluda and Faron regions, and completes the loop by crossing over Lake Hylia and back to Gerudo. A full loop takes approximately 20–25 real-world minutes. The dragon is always visible from any Skyview Tower as a tiny golden glimmer high in the sky — enable the Purah Pad dragon tracking feature (unlocked at Hateno Ancient Tech Lab) to see its real-time map position and project its arrival time at any given location. The Light Dragon does NOT descend to the Depths — it is the only one of the four non-boss dragons that has no underground counterpart. After completing the 'Recovering the Hero's Sword' main quest prompt, the Light Dragon descends slightly (approximately 1,000–1,200 meters) for the retrieval sequence but otherwise maintains its extreme altitude circuit. The most dramatic observation point for the Light Dragon's circuit is above Hyrule Castle — the golden dragon circling the reconstructed castle against the sky is one of TotK's most iconic post-game sights.

Dragon Parts

PartLocation on BodyFusion EffectSell Price
Shard of Light Dragon's HornTip of the single horn on the forehead — the same location where the Master Sword was embedded. After sword retrieval, the horn scar area becomes a farmable drop zone showing a golden light-burst on correct hit. The horn tip glows a distinct warm gold and requires the same precision aim as elemental dragon horns. The head-on approach from a Sky Island above the dragon's flight path gives the cleanest angle on the forehead horn tip.+26 attack power when fused to a weapon. Adds light/holy damage that is particularly effective against Gloom-touched enemies, Phantom Ganon forms, and all Ganondorf variants. Tied at +26 attack with the elemental dragon horn shards, but the light element provides unique effectiveness against the final boss family of enemies that no other element replicates. The highest base attack fusion material available outside the Master Sword itself.300 Rupees
Light Dragon's FangMouth and jaw area — aim for the jaw sides near the visible golden teeth. The Light Dragon's jaw shimmers gold rather than glowing with elemental energy. A fang hit shows a warm golden light-burst rather than an elemental spark effect. The jaw is easiest to target from the front during a head-on approach from a Sky Island.+20 attack power when fused. Adds light damage. The light element is particularly effective in the final boss encounter against Ganondorf and the Demon Dragon, making Light Dragon Fangs a strong choice for the endgame weapon kit. Required for high-tier upgrades on Gloom Resistance armor sets.250 Rupees
Light Dragon's ClawFront or rear claws and feet — the golden talons on the underside of the dragon. Easiest to target when riding the dragon and walking toward the fore-claws from the mid-back position. A claw hit shows a golden light-burst effect. Alternatively, shoot upward at the underbelly from a slightly lower altitude during a Sky Island intercept.+18 attack power when fused. Adds light element. A good mid-game weapon upgrade when farming the Light Dragon pre-Master Sword retrieval. Required for tier 2–3 upgrades on Champion Leathers and Gloom Resistance armor.180 Rupees
Light Dragon's ScaleMain body and torso — the large gold-shimmering flank sections along the mid-body. The largest target zone on the Light Dragon and the easiest part to farm in bulk. The torso shows a warm golden shimmer on a scale hit, distinct from the bright burst of claw or fang hits. Deliberately targeting the broad flank sections during routine farming sessions builds up the scale stockpile needed for armor upgrade tier 1–2.+12 attack power when fused. Adds minor light damage. Best used for cooking duration bonuses rather than weapon fusion. Required in the highest quantities for Great Fairy armor upgrades on Gloom Resistance and Champion Leathers at tier 1–2.150 Rupees
Light Dragon's TalonHind claws and rear talons — the rear feet of the dragon, distinct from the front claws and accessible from the tail end of the dragon. Requires approaching from behind the dragon, either by riding the back and walking to the tail, or by intercepting from below the rear section. The talon hit shows a golden light-burst. Less commonly targeted than front claws but useful for collecting an additional unique part type per circuit.+16 attack power when fused. Adds light element. Slightly stronger than Claws at +16 versus +18 — a useful mid-tier light fusion material when building out a full light-damage weapon set for the final boss sequence.120 Rupees

Farming Tips

ALTITUDE IS THE PRIMARY CHALLENGE: The Light Dragon flies at 1,500–2,000 meters. Skyview Towers launch you to roughly 700–900 meters. Closing the remaining 600–1,100 meter gap requires: (a) a Sky Island above 1,200 meters to launch from — the Hyrule Sky Archipelago above Hyrule Castle reaches 1,200+ meters, (b) a Zonai rocket attached to a Wing or vertical launch pad for an extra 400–600 meters, or (c) the 'Recovering the Hero's Sword' main quest completion which causes the dragon to descend to a more accessible 1,000–1,200 meter altitude.

TRACK IT FIRST WITH PURAH PAD: Unlock the dragon tracking feature by speaking with Robbie at Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. This adds a real-time golden dot on the world map showing the Light Dragon's exact position. Without this feature you are essentially guessing. With it, pre-position at a high Sky Island in the dragon's projected path and wait — maximum wait is under 20 minutes.

MASTER SWORD RETRIEVAL REQUIRES TWO FULL STAMINA WHEELS: The Master Sword is embedded in the Light Dragon's forehead horn. Land on the dragon's head and interact with the sword. The pull sequence requires TWO FULL STAMINA WHEELS (20 stamina vessels = 40 stamina nodes from the Bargainer Statues network) — if stamina runs out, Link drops it and takes fall damage. Eat Endura Carrot meals before the pull to supplement with yellow temporary stamina if you are short.

ENDURA CARROT STRATEGY FOR UNDER-POWERED STAMINA: If you have fewer than two stamina wheels, cook five Endura Carrots into a single meal for maximum yellow stamina extension. One full wheel + five Endura Carrot meal provides approximately 2.5 effective wheels of stamina — sufficient to complete the Master Sword pull. Endura Carrots are found in Satori Mountain and Hyrule Ridge areas.

Riding Bonus

Riding the Light Dragon is completely safe — no elemental hazard of any kind. The dragon's back is warm, golden-lit, and serene. Its back is the only location where you can retrieve the Master Sword (land on the head and interact with the embedded sword prompt — requires 2 full stamina wheels). After retrieving the sword, riding the dragon provides the highest sustained vantage point in the game — from its back at 1,500+ meters, the entire Hyrule map spreads below in breathtaking panoramic clarity. The Light Dragon also serves as a slow-moving observation platform: ride it around its 20-minute circuit to survey all of Hyrule from above, marking shrine dots and Korok seed locations visible from altitude. There is an additional emotional weight to riding the Light Dragon once you understand who it is — you are riding Zelda herself, and she carries you across the world she sacrificed her humanity to protect. Riding across Hyrule Castle on Zelda's back, seeing the kingdom she gave everything for spread out below you, is one of the most quietly powerful moments in the game.

Schedule

The Demon Dragon appears ONLY during the final boss sequence of the main story. It is completely inaccessible outside of this encounter. To reach it: complete all four Regional Phenomena (Wind Temple — Rito Village, Water Temple — Zora's Domain, Fire Temple — Death Mountain, Lightning Temple — Gerudo Desert). Then descend into Hyrule Castle's underground Gloom pit through the castle's depths. Defeat Phantom Ganon (a multi-phase encounter with the Demon King's shadow). Defeat Demon King Ganondorf (Phase 1 — humanoid combat, Phase 2 — Demon Dragonhead form). Watch the Draconification cutscene in which Ganondorf swallows his Secret Stone and transforms. The aerial final phase begins immediately after this cutscene, with no save point between the cutscene and the battle. IMPORTANT: Stock up on Sunny Meals (Sunshroom + any base ingredient) before this fight to cure Gloom damage without visiting a Spring. The Demon Dragon's attacks drain maximum hearts.

The Demon Dragon is Ganondorf's ultimate transformation — the result of the Demon King swallowing his Secret Stone and undergoing Draconification corrupted by pure malice and hatred. Unlike Zelda who transformed with love and sacrifice (becoming the Light Dragon), Ganondorf transformed with pure destruction as his intent, and his hatred consumed his mind entirely, leaving only a monstrous killing force of darkness and Gloom. The Demon Dragon is massive, dwarfing even Dinraal and Naydra, with a body of black scales and orange-red Gloom veins that pulse with dark energy in visible rhythmic waves. Its wings blot out the sky over Hyrule like a second night falling — seeing it emerge from behind Hyrule Castle is one of TotK's most genuinely terrifying moments. Gloom eyes are embedded throughout its body — these are the weak points Link must destroy during the final boss encounter, and each eye pulses with the same Gloom corruption seen in infected Depths Hinoxes and Gloom Hands throughout the game. The Demon Dragon breathes Gloom fire in wide sweeping arcs that drain hearts rather than burning them — standing in a Gloom fire breath reduces Link's maximum heart capacity until healed at a Skyview Spring or by eating a Sunny Meal. It executes barrel rolls to throw attackers off its back and dives to rake the Light Dragon with its Gloom claws during the aerial battle sequence. It is only encountered once, in the game's climactic aerial battle fought entirely from the back of the Light Dragon — the final clash between Zelda's sacrifice embodied in gold and Ganondorf's malice embodied in darkness. The Demon Dragon cannot be farmed, ridden freely, or interacted with outside of the final boss sequence. Its appearance is the narrative culmination of every Gloom-infected location, boss, and enemy encountered throughout the entire game — the source of all corruption made into a single colossal form.

Flight Path

The Demon Dragon does not follow a regular patrol path like the elemental dragons and cannot be found on the overworld map or tracked with the Purah Pad sensor. It exists only during the final boss sequence, where it circles the sky above Hyrule at extreme altitude alongside the Light Dragon — the two dragons circling each other in a death spiral that mirrors the relationship between Zelda's light and Ganondorf's malice throughout the story. Its movements during the fight are entirely dictated by the combat encounter: it swoops toward the Light Dragon, dives to breathe Gloom fire across its back, executes barrel rolls to throw Link off, and maneuvers to present different body sections for Link to target. The Demon Dragon does not appear on the overworld map and cannot be tracked with Sensor+, Dragon Tracking, or any other Purah Pad feature. After the final boss is defeated, the Demon Dragon ceases to exist — it is consumed in light and Zelda is restored from her dragon form as the Gloom dissipates.

Gloom Eye (Head)The largest Gloom eye on the Demon Dragon's forehead — the final target of the boss fight and the killing blow location. This eye is exposed only after all body Gloom Eyes have been destroyed. The fight ends when Link drives the Master Sword into this eye in a cinematic finishing sequence. The head eye is surrounded by the largest concentration of Gloom veins on the entire body. Not obtainable as a drop item. Destroying this eye triggers the ending cinematic and concludes the main story.0 Rupees
Gloom Eye (Body)Multiple Gloom eyes embedded across the back, sides, and tail of the Demon Dragon. These eyes appear in clusters of two to four along the dorsal spine and flanks. Each body eye must be destroyed in sequence to expose the next cluster. Destroying a body eye deals significant chunk damage to the Demon Dragon and advances the fight phase. Eyes regenerate with a Gloom film if not destroyed quickly enough — the Light Dragon's golden aura partially suppresses regeneration when Link is on its back. Not obtainable as drop items. Must be destroyed in sequence to expose the head eye for the final phase.0 Rupees

Farming Tips

CANNOT BE FARMED: The Demon Dragon is a one-time, unrepeatable encounter in the final boss sequence. It drops no materials, yields no upgrades, and cannot be replayed without starting a new save file. There is no farming strategy — only survival strategy.

PREREQUISITE: Complete all four Regional Phenomena (Wind, Water, Fire, Lightning) and defeat both phases of Demon King Ganondorf inside Hyrule Castle to trigger the transformation cutscene.

FIGHT STRUCTURE — PHASE 1 (BODY EYES): After the Demon Dragon emerges, skydive from the Light Dragon onto the Demon Dragon's back. Locate and destroy all Gloom Eye clusters on the body and tail. Attack each eye with your strongest weapons — the Master Sword deals double damage against Gloom eyes. After destroying all body eyes, return to the Light Dragon.

FIGHT STRUCTURE — PHASE 2 (HEAD EYE): After all body eyes are destroyed, the head eye is exposed. Dive from the Light Dragon and land near the Demon Dragon's neck. Fight forward toward the head, destroying any regenerated eye tissue. When the head eye opens, drive the Master Sword in for the cinematic finishing blow.

Riding Bonus

The Demon Dragon cannot be ridden under player control and is not a mount in any conventional sense. During the final boss sequence, Link skydives from the Light Dragon's back onto the Demon Dragon to attack its Gloom eyes — but this is a directed combat sequence, not free movement. The Demon Dragon's back is covered in Gloom veins that drain maximum hearts on contact, hostile territory that actively punishes staying in place. The dragon barrel-rolls, dives, and maneuvers aggressively to throw Link off — treat it as a moving combat platform that is actively trying to kill you. You cannot walk toward the head at leisure as on other dragons; you must fight forward through eye clusters while the body moves and attacks beneath you. The Demon Dragon's back is also visually stunning in a horrifying way — Gloom veins pulsing with orange-red light against black scales, the entire surface warped by 10,000 years of hatred — a stark visual antithesis to the Light Dragon's serene golden back that serves as the fight's other platform. The contrast between riding Zelda (warm, golden, peaceful) to attack Ganondorf (dark, hot with Gloom, violent) is one of TotK's most intentional design statements about sacrifice versus malice.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many dragons are in Tears of the Kingdom?

There are 5 dragons: Dinraal (fire), Naydra (ice), Farosh (lightning), the Light Dragon, and the Demon King Dragon (final boss). The first three are elemental dragons that fly set paths across Hyrule.

Where can I find the Light Dragon?

The Light Dragon flies at very high altitude across all of Hyrule. You can spot it from Skyview Towers or sky islands. It carries the Master Sword on its head — you need two full stamina wheels to pull it free.

How do I farm dragon parts efficiently?

Wait at a known spawn point along the dragon's flight path. Shoot the specific body part you need (horn, fang, claw, or scale) with an arrow. Each part drops once per real-world 10 minutes. Horn shards are the rarest and most valuable for upgrades.

What are dragon parts used for in TotK?

Dragon parts are used for armor upgrades at Great Fairy Fountains, cooking elixirs with extended duration, and fusing to weapons/arrows for elemental damage. Horn shards add the longest buff duration to meals.
