Maren's Tip

Every enemy type has a weakness. Fire enemies melt with ice, ice enemies with fire. Gibdos are vulnerable to fire and lightning — stock those arrows!

Description

Five disembodied hands that erupt from Gloom pools at night or in the Depths. They cannot follow Link onto terrain above roughly 2 meters — this makes any nearby boulder, fallen log, or Ultrahand construction an effective safe haven. The forehead-level approach is dangerous: the hands grab at movement, so stationary elevation shooting is the safest strategy. Their Dark Clump drops are used in monster parts crafting. Surface spawns are random but increase near open Chasms and post-Blood Moon.

Weakness

Fire attacks hit all five hands simultaneously in a cluster. Sundelion-fused arrows deal 30% bonus damage. Elevated positions (rocks, trees above 2m) prevent all grabs. Brightbloom Seeds thrown at the cluster cause momentary scatter.

How to Beat Gloom Spawn (Surface Encounter)

The moment Gloom Spawn appears, prioritize getting elevated immediately — any rock, tree, or Ultrahand-placed object above their reach negates all grab attacks. Shoot fire arrows downward into the cluster from elevation. Each hand has 94 HP and shares a despawn timer — killing one speeds up defeat. If you lack elevation, bomb arrows create distance and deal area damage. Sundelion meals before the fight protect hearts already lost to Gloom. After defeat, if Phantom Ganon appears, you must fight it immediately — retreating and returning will not despawn it.
