Complete Amiibo Guide: Every TotK Amiibo Reward
Tears of the Kingdom supports a wide range of amiibo figures that drop exclusive items, rare materials, and even full armor sets unavailable elsewhere in the game. Scanning amiibo daily is one of the best passive resource strategies in TotK — free weapons, rare crafting materials, and sometimes unique gear that can't be obtained any other way. This guide covers every compatible amiibo and its rewards.
How to Use Amiibo in TotK
Before you can scan amiibo, you need to enable NFC on your Switch. Here's the full setup process:
- Go to System Settings > Controllers and Sensors > Enable Amiibo
- In-game, open the Purah Pad and navigate to the Abilities menu
- Select the Amiibo ability (obtained early from Purah at Lookout Landing)
- Hold the amiibo figure over the NFC reader on the right Joy-Con — the flat area on the analog stick face
- A glowing crate falls from the sky near Link — open it for random rewards from that amiibo's pool
The NFC reader is on the right Joy-Con only. If you're using a Pro Controller, the reader is on the face of the controller near the center. Make sure to hold the figure still for about one second until the scan registers.
Daily limit: Each amiibo can be scanned once per day based on the real-world clock, not in-game time. The reset happens at midnight local time. Scanning all your amiibo every day adds up quickly — even basic amiibo drop useful materials and food. If you have a large collection, set a daily reminder.
New TotK-Specific Amiibo (Guaranteed Unique Drops)
Three amiibo were created specifically for Tears of the Kingdom. These have the highest guaranteed reward value and should be your first priority.
Link (TotK) Amiibo
- Guaranteed: Travel Medallion (portable fast travel point — identical to the in-game item)
- Pool: Royal weapons, arrows, assorted materials
- The Travel Medallion from this amiibo can be used in parallel with the one Robbie gives you, allowing two custom fast travel points.
Zelda (TotK) Amiibo — Princess Outfit
- Guaranteed: Zelda's Princess outfit pieces (Hylian Hood, regal dress components)
- Pool: Hearty ingredients, diamonds, rare crafting materials
- This is the only way to obtain Zelda's iconic princess dress without significant late-game progression. Worth scanning daily for the diamond drops alone.
Ganondorf (TotK) Amiibo — Demon King Armor
- Guaranteed: Demon King's Bow or Demon King's Broadsword (alternates per scan)
- Pool: Gloom-tipped arrows, dark materials
- The Demon King armor pieces are visually distinct dark-themed gear available exclusively through this amiibo. If you're going for a villain aesthetic, this is the amiibo to prioritize.
Legacy Zelda Amiibo — BotW Series Carry-Over
These amiibo were made for Breath of the Wild but remain fully functional in TotK, dropping armor set pieces from their respective themes:
| Amiibo | Primary Drop | Notes | |--------|-------------|-------| | Link (Archer) | Cap/Tunic/Trousers of the Wild | BotW-era armor set | | Link (Rider) | Royal Guard's Uniform pieces + horse gear | Horse gear is unique to this amiibo | | Link (BotW) | Traveler's Bow, Traveler armor | Good early-game weapon drops | | Zelda (BotW) | Hylian armor pieces, resource bundles | Reliable material drops | | Guardian (BotW) | Ancient materials | Useful for Zonai-themed crafting | | Bokoblin (BotW) | Bokoblin materials, Bokoblin weapons | Good for Fuse fodder early |
The Link (Rider) amiibo is particularly notable — it drops horse gear including bridles and saddles that are difficult to obtain through normal gameplay. If you want to deck out your registered horses early, this is the amiibo to scan.
The Zelda (BotW) amiibo drops a reliable resource bundle each day. Even if you don't need armor pieces, the Hearty food ingredients and rare materials make it worth scanning.
Wolf Link Companion
The Wolf Link amiibo (from Twilight Princess HD) has a unique function: it summons Wolf Link as a companion who fights alongside you in combat. Wolf Link attacks enemies independently, has his own health bar, and will engage nearby targets automatically. He's particularly useful in early-to-mid game when combat is still challenging. Wolf Link disappears after his health depletes but can be resummoned the next day. He doesn't interact with story content and won't interfere with cutscenes.
Other Compatible Zelda Series Amiibo
The following amiibo all work in TotK and drop items ranging from armor pieces to rare materials:
- Toon Link (Wind Waker): Hero's Set of Wind (tunic/trousers/shield)
- Toon Zelda: Spirit Tracks jewelry and rare food items
- Loftwing (Skyward Sword — limited edition): Drops a sky-themed glide item useful for early Sky Island navigation. This was a limited-print amiibo that came with the Skyward Sword HD release and is harder to find.
- Ganondorf (OoT): Ancient sword materials, dark-themed gear drops
- Skull Kid: Skull Mask cosmetic, rare Deku Tree materials
- Midna: Shadow Crystal material, Twilight armor pieces
- Daruk, Revali, Urbosa, Mipha (BotW Champions): Their respective Champion's Tunic variants and Champion spirit drops
Super Smash Bros. Link Amiibo
All Smash Bros. Link variants (Link, Young Link, Toon Link, Link (SSBM), etc.) are compatible and drop:
- Random Hyrulean weapons (occasionally high-tier Royal or Knight weapons)
- Food and material assortments
- Occasional rare armor set pieces (less reliably than dedicated Zelda amiibo)
These aren't as targeted as the main Zelda-series amiibo but are worth scanning daily if you have them.
Non-TotK Amiibo (Random Drops)
Any compatible amiibo not in the Zelda series still works in TotK and drops randomized food items and basic materials — things like Apples, Mushrooms, arrows, and ore. The drops aren't exciting, but if you have a large Smash Bros. or other Nintendo amiibo collection, scanning them all daily provides a steady stream of cooking ingredients and rupee-value materials.
Tips for Amiibo Farming
- Scan all amiibo each real-world day — the daily reset at midnight is based on your Switch's system clock. If you travel time zones, adjust accordingly.
- Prioritize TotK-specific amiibo first for guaranteed high-value drops. Scan them before others.
- Wolf Link provides a meaningful combat advantage in early-game; don't forget to rescan daily after he falls in combat.
- Duplicate armor pieces from amiibo can be sold to shops for rupees or used as Fuse fodder. Don't discard them — even low-tier armor is worth something.
- Amiibo-exclusive armor (Cap of the Wild, Demon King armor, etc.) can be upgraded at Great Fairy Fountains like all regular armor. Some of these sets reach excellent defense values when fully upgraded.
- The TotK amiibo armor sets are eligible for Great Fairy upgrades using standard monster materials — they're not locked to amiibo-exclusive upgrade paths.
- If you use an amiibo card NFC replica rather than the physical figure, the mechanic works identically on Switch hardware.
