Best Elixir Recipes Guide — Every Effect & Best Combo

Elixirs are made by cooking critters (bugs, lizards, frogs, butterflies) with monster parts. They provide unique buffs that food can't always match — most importantly, Fireproof elixirs are the only way to survive Death Mountain without Flamebreaker Armor. This guide covers every elixir type, the optimal recipes, and where to farm ingredients.

Elixir Recipe Formula

Critter + Monster Part = Elixir

  • The critter determines the effect (speed, stealth, fire resist, etc.)
  • The monster part determines the potency and duration
  • More critters = stronger effect level
  • Better monster parts = longer duration
  • Dragon horn shards override duration to 30 minutes (max)

Monster Part Quality Tiers

Better monster parts increase duration:

| Tier | Monster Parts | Duration Bonus | |------|--------------|----------------| | Low | Bokoblin Horn, Keese Wing, Chuchu Jelly | Short (~2 min) | | Mid | Moblin Horn, Lizalfos Horn, Hinox Toenail | Medium (~4 min) | | High | Hinox Guts, Lynel Hoof, Molduga Guts | Long (~6 min) | | Max | Dragon Horn Shard (any dragon) | 30 minutes (overrides all) |

Pro tip: Always keep 5-10 Dragon Horn Shards in inventory. They turn any elixir into a 30-minute buff.

The 5 Elixirs You Should Always Carry

  1. Fireproof Elixir — can't be replicated with food; essential for Death Mountain visits
  2. Sneaky Elixir Lv3 — sneak strikes deal x8 damage; the most efficient combat opener
  3. Hasty Elixir Lv3 — speed boost for surface travel between fast travel points
  4. Enduring Elixir — extra stamina for unexpected climbs and the Master Sword pull
  5. Mighty Elixir Lv3 — 30-minute attack boost for boss fights and Lynel farming

Tips

  • Elixirs and food buffs don't stack — consuming a new buff overwrites the old one. Don't waste a 30-minute elixir by eating buff food.
  • Dragon Horn Shard = 30 minutes — this makes all other duration-extending strategies irrelevant. Farm dragon horns.
  • Cook critters individually for hearty/endura effects — same efficiency trick as hearty food. One Hearty Lizard + one monster part = full recovery + bonus hearts.
  • Fireproof Lizards can be bought — the Goron NPC at the Southern Mine sells Fireproof Elixirs if you don't want to catch lizards yourself.
  • Blood Moon resets critter spawns — time your farming runs after Blood Moons for maximum yield.
  • Stealth armor + Sneaky Elixir don't stack — if you have Lv2 Stealth armor, the elixir adds nothing. Use a different buff instead.
