Bokoblin Guide — Every Type, Drop & Strategy

Bokoblins are TotK's most common enemy — found in every region, in camps of all sizes, with 5 power tiers from basic Red to elite Silver. This guide covers every type, their drops, and the most efficient ways to clear their camps.

Bokoblin Types

Red Bokoblin

HP: Low (~5–8 hits with basic weapon) Locations: All regions, early game emphasis — East Necluda, Dueling Peaks, Akkala

Combat:

  • Basic melee swing (club or bone club)
  • Occasionally throws a rock
  • Patrol radius: small

Drops:

  • Bokoblin Horn (common)
  • Bokoblin Fang (common)
  • Bokoblin Guts (rare)
  • Their equipped weapon (always drops)

Blue Bokoblin

HP: Moderate — roughly 2× Red Locations: Mid-game areas — Lanayru, Eldin, parts of Faron

Combat:

  • Faster swing speed than Red
  • More likely to shield-block before counterattacking
  • Sometimes uses elemental weapons (fire clubs in Eldin areas)

Drops: Same categories as Red, higher drop rate on Fangs and Guts

Black Bokoblin

HP: High — 3× Red approximately Locations: Late-game surface areas, Depths camps

Combat:

  • Frequently uses shields (harder to approach for Sneakstrike)
  • Charges forward if Link is at distance
  • Throws explosive barrels if available in camp

Drops: Bokoblin Horn, Fang, Guts — higher Guts rate than Blue

Silver Bokoblin

HP: Very high — toughest non-boss encounter Locations: Post-blood-moon intensity scaling camps, late-game regions Notable: Glowing silver appearance, always aggressive

Combat:

  • Fast attack speed despite heavy build
  • Senses Link from greater distance
  • Prioritizes attacking Link over other targets
  • Often carries strong fused weapons (Metal Spike clubs, Large Zonai parts)

Drops: Bokoblin Horn, Fang, Guts — all at high rates + silver monster drops

Boss Bokoblin (Bokoblin King)

HP: High (scales with camp difficulty) Locations: Inside camps — always the largest enemy, wears crown

Behavior:

  • Calls for backup when HP drops below 50%
  • Throws rocks and camp materials as projectiles
  • Runs into elevated lookout platform if camp has one
  • Killing the Boss Bokoblin first eliminates the camp alarm — other Bokoblins scatter

Key tip: Sneakstrike the Boss Bokoblin while it patrols. 8× multiplier often kills or critically wounds it before the alert.

Combat Patterns

Basic Attack Loop

All Bokoblins follow this pattern:

  1. Approach toward Link
  2. Wind-up (arm raises)
  3. Swing or throw
  4. Brief recovery pause
  5. Repeat

Counter: Perfect dodge backward during wind-up → Flurry Rush → 4–6 free hits.

Shield Behavior

Blue and Black Bokoblins frequently raise shields:

  • Use Bomb Arrow or Fuse Rock throw to break shield guard
  • Attack from behind (Sneakstrike)
  • Wait for their attack cycle — they lower shield briefly to swing

Group Tactics

Bokoblins in groups split into roles:

  • Melee: Rush Link directly
  • Archer: Stay at range, fire arrows
  • Boss Bokoblin: Stays elevated or back, coordinates attack

Priority order: Boss first → archers → melee last (lowest HP individually)

Drops and Uses

| Drop | Use | |------|-----| | Bokoblin Horn | Fuse weapon tip (adds base attack); Elixir ingredient | | Bokoblin Fang | Fuse (sharp weapon tip, good cutting fuse); Elixir ingredient | | Bokoblin Guts | Elixir ingredient — extends effect duration significantly |

Bokoblin Horn fuse: Attaching to an arrow tip gives +3 attack to the arrow. Modest but free from any camp.

Elixir ingredient: Guts + any critter = duration extension. Bokoblin Guts are the most accessible duration extender.

Camp Clearing Strategies

Sneakstrike Opening

  1. Equip Stealth Armor
  2. Approach from downwind or elevated angle
  3. Target the Boss Bokoblin → Sneakstrike (8× damage)
  4. If the Boss dies → most camp members scatter and flee
  5. Chase or let flee — no loot loss from running enemies

Arrow Clear (Ranged)

  1. Stay at 30+ meters
  2. Bomb Arrow into tightest cluster → AoE damages multiple
  3. Fire Arrows at wooden barrels (explosions)
  4. Switch to regular arrows for archer Bokoblins (they're fragile)

Environmental Kill

Any rock, boulder, or heavy object near a camp:

  • Ultrahand the object → drop it on Bokoblin clusters
  • Boulder impact: 20–40 damage AoE, stagger or one-shot basic types
  • Efficient, preserves all weapons

Mounted Combat

Horse or Zonai vehicle pass-through:

  • Ride through camp at speed → swing weapon at every Bokoblin
  • Mounted attack bonus damage
  • High mobility prevents return damage
  • Works best against spread camps (not tight towers)

Farming Locations

Best Surface Farms

| Location | Type | Notes | |----------|------|-------| | Dueling Peaks base camp | Red/Blue mix | Resets on Blood Moon, accessible early | | Akkala Citadel area | Black + Boss | Good Guts drop rate | | Necluda: East (Rabella Wetlands) | Blue/Black | Dense camp, high loot | | Lanayru (Dragon's Exile) | Black/Silver | Late-game farm, best Guts |

Depths Farms

Depths Bokoblin camps are larger and often Black or Silver:

  • Camp at Abandoned Mines (all major regions)
  • Reset with each Blood Moon
  • Combined with Poe farming — efficient loop

Blood Moon Reset

All Bokoblin camps reset on Blood Moon. Optimal farm loop:

  1. Clear a large camp (Akkala or Necluda)
  2. Do other activities until Blood Moon
  3. Return → clear same camp again

Quick Tips

  • Kill the Boss first — every Bokoblin camp runs on the Boss Bokoblin as the alarm trigger. Kill it silently and the rest of the camp may scatter without fighting.
  • Guts from Black and Silver only — Bokoblin Guts don't drop reliably from Red or Blue. Farm Black and Silver camps in Lanayru and late-game Eldin for consistent Guts.
  • Horns are everywhere — don't fuse Bokoblin Horns to weapons if Fang is available. Fang is a better fuse (sharper, higher attack on arrows). Use Horns for elixirs.
  • Archers first if outnumbered — if you're overwhelmed, take out archers before melee. Arrow spam is the highest sustained DPS threat in large groups; melee Bokoblins are manageable one-on-one.
  • Silver Bokoblins are worth the fight — Silver camps give best Guts drops and the enemy weapons (if Silver carries fused gear) are high value. Don't avoid them late-game.
