Overview

Deep Akkala is the remote northeastern corner of Hyrule, separated from the main Akkala region by Rist Peninsula and the Akkala Citadel Ruins. It's one of the most isolated areas in the game — no Skyview Tower launches directly into it, and no main-quest objective draws players there. But Deep Akkala rewards exploration with rare materials, a memorable dungeon-like structure (Akkala Citadel), the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, and one of Hyrule's more interesting geoglyphs.

How to Reach Deep Akkala

Deep Akkala has no direct fast-travel shortcut from the game's start. The main approaches are:

  1. From Akkala — Follow the road northeast from Foothill Stable through the Akkala Citadel Ruins toward the Akkala Inland Sea
  2. Paraglide from sky islands — A sky island chain extends northeast of the Akkala Highlands
  3. Akkala Citadel Ruins portal — Several shrines in the broader Akkala region are positioned to allow relatively quick access after unlocking

Cold resistance is not required but is helpful for the elevated pass sections.

Key Landmarks

Akkala Ancient Tech Lab

The Tech Lab perches on a promontory at the very northeast tip of the mainland. In TotK, the lab is active and operated by researchers studying ancient Sheikah and Zonai technology. The lab has limited interactions but serves as a lore hub and fast-travel anchor shrine nearby.

Akkala Citadel Ruins

While technically on the border between Akkala and Deep Akkala, the Citadel dominates the visual landscape. The ruins are a multi-level stone fortress occupied by a large Bokoblin garrison. Clearing the Citadel yields strong weapon drops and access to a clear vista for spotting the Rist Peninsula labyrinth.

Rist Peninsula

The iconic spiral peninsula that forms the North Lomei Labyrinth location (or its TotK equivalent). The peninsula itself has Korok puzzles along its spiral path and offers excellent horizon views toward the sky island chains.

Akkala Inland Sea

A large inland lake surrounded by cliffs. Several Lizalfos and one Blue Hinox are found along its banks. The lake contains Armored Carp and other cold-water fish.

Shrines

| Shrine | Approximate Coordinates | Notes | |--------|------------------------|-------| | Rasiwak Shrine | 3875, 2628, 0128 | Puzzle — Rauru's Blessing | | Otutsum Shrine | 4369, 1820, 0207 | Combat challenge | | Jochi-ihiga Shrine | 3986, 3299, 0195 | Traversal — Sky Shrine above peninsula |

Enemies

| Enemy | Location | Notes | |-------|----------|-------| | Black Bokoblins | Citadel Ruins | High-tier weapons on defeat | | Blue / Silver Lizalfos | Inland Sea banks | Electric variants — rubber armor useful | | Blue Hinox | Inland Sea shore | Necklace weapons, Hinox materials | | Gloom Hands (rare) | Isolated cliffs | Appear if investigating certain ruins |

Resources and Materials

Deep Akkala is notable for:

  • Amber, Topaz, Opal — Ore nodes are abundant throughout the rocky terrain
  • Brightbloom Seeds — Cave interiors throughout the peninsula
  • Razorclaw Crab — Inland Sea banks (used in Attack Up elixirs)
  • Raw Gourmet Meat — Bear and wolf spawns on the forested ridge
  • Gloom-touched Bones — Near Depths access points

Notable Activities

Lomei Labyrinth (North)

The North Lomei Labyrinth is in this region — a massive square maze on a sky island above the peninsula. The labyrinth has a ground-level entrance in the Akkala Citadel area plus the sky-island version. Completing it yields a powerful armor piece.

Geoglyph #3 (Warrior's Heart)

One of the Dragon's Tears geoglyphs is visible in the Deep Akkala highlands. The memory tear is located within the geoglyph outline near the citadel approach.

Tips

  • The Akkala Citadel is best approached from below using Ascend — it skips the defended front gate entirely
  • Stock up on food before entering Deep Akkala for extended sessions — the nearest stable is Foothill, a significant distance away
  • The Tech Lab researchers offer interesting dialogue that expands the Zonai backstory lore
  • Rist Peninsula Korok puzzles are time-limited torch/flower puzzles — move quickly along the spiral path
  • The sky islands above Deep Akkala have an above-average concentration of Zonai devices and Treasure Chests
