Dinraal Guide — How to Farm Dinraal Dragon Parts in TotK
Dinraal — The Fire Dragon
Dinraal is the Fire Dragon of Hyrule, circling the northern sky over the Eldin and Akkala regions. One of the three Spirit Dragons alongside Naydra and Farosh, Dinraal's fire-element parts are required for Flamebreaker Armor upgrades and produce powerful fire-fusion weapons. Approaching Dinraal requires fire resistance.
Dinraal Overview
| Attribute | Value | |-----------|-------| | Element | Fire | | Flight Path | Death Mountain → Akkala Highlands → Eldin Canyon → loops | | Altitude | High (best accessed from Death Mountain summit or Eldin towers) | | Respawn | Once per in-game day (or Blood Moon) | | Drops per visit | 1 part per body part hit |
Dinraal's Flight Path
Dinraal circuits the northern Hyrule sky:
- Death Mountain summit — Dinraal's highest point; passes very close to the Goron City area
- Akkala Highlands — northeastern leg, lower altitude over the ruins
- Eldin Canyon — descends slightly through the canyon area before climbing again
- Lanayru border — occasionally dips east near Mount Lanayru before looping north
Best intercept location: The Death Mountain summit near the Goron City Skyview Tower or the Eldin Great Skeleton area (coordinates: 1867, 2696, 0406). Dinraal passes at altitude within gliding range of the highest peaks.
Alternative intercept: The Akkala Citadel ruins area — Dinraal's circuit brings it lower over the northeastern highlands, making it accessible from the tower tops.
Heat Warning
Dinraal's body generates extreme heat. You must wear heat-resistant armor before getting on its back:
- Flamebreaker Armor (full set recommended) — provides heat immunity
- 2 pieces of Flamebreaker — reduces damage but not immune
- Fireproof Elixir — temporary fireproof, works for a full visit if timed correctly
Without fire protection, Dinraal's body will continuously damage Link, potentially killing you mid-harvest.
How to Harvest Dragon Parts
Getting on Dinraal
- Reach elevation above Dinraal's path — Death Mountain summit or sky island platforms
- Track Dinraal's approach on the Purah Pad (visible after first contact)
- Glide onto its back — aim for the large plate sections behind the head
Body Part Drops
| Body Part | Drop | |-----------|------| | Scales (body) | Dinraal's Scale | | Claws (feet) | Dinraal's Claw | | Fang (mouth) | Shard of Dinraal's Fang | | Horn (head) | Shard of Dinraal's Horn |
Shoot the glowing spot on each body part with a single arrow to dislodge the material. Materials drop as physical items — they float briefly and then fall. Collect them before they descend out of range.
Dinraal Parts and Their Uses
Dinraal's Scale
| Use | Notes | |-----|-------| | Flamebreaker Armor upgrade (★★) | 3× Dinraal's Scale required | | Fuse material | Adds fire damage, ~15 attack equivalent | | Cooking | Not recommended for food |
Dinraal's Claw
| Use | Notes | |-----|-------| | Flamebreaker Armor upgrade (★★★) | 2× Dinraal's Claw | | Fuse material | High attack + fire elemental |
Shard of Dinraal's Fang
| Use | Notes | |-----|-------| | Flamebreaker Armor upgrade (★★★★) | 1× Shard of Dinraal's Fang | | Fuse material | Very high attack, strong fire effect |
Shard of Dinraal's Horn
| Use | Notes | |-----|-------| | Best fire fuse in the game | Adds fire element + 25+ attack equivalent | | Flamebreaker Helm upgrade (★★★★) | 1× Shard of Dinraal's Horn | | Rare and high-value | Farm Horn Shards first |
Efficient Dinraal Farming
Daily Farming
You collect 1 part per body part per in-game day. Maximum materials per day: 1 Scale + 1 Claw + 1 Fang Shard + 1 Horn Shard.
Routine:
- Intercept Dinraal at Death Mountain summit
- Harvest desired part with a single arrow
- Skip time (campfire near Eldin Tower)
- Intercept again and hit a different part
- Repeat until you've harvested all 4 parts for the day
Blood Moon Farming
Blood Moons reset all dragon harvest timers. Wait for a Blood Moon (announced by the red sky and Zelda's voice) and immediately run the Dinraal circuit — all 4 parts available again.
Scale Stacking
Like Naydra, Dinraal has multiple scale-glow points on its body. Walk the length of its back and shoot each glowing scale spot before moving on — you can collect 2–3 scales per visit if multiple spots are active.
Dragon Comparison: Fire Armor Upgrades
Flamebreaker Armor requires only Dinraal parts:
| Level | Material Needed | |-------|----------------| | ★★ | 3× Dinraal's Scale + other materials | | ★★★ | 2× Dinraal's Claw + other materials | | ★★★★ | 1× Shard of Dinraal's Fang + other materials | | ★★★★ (Helm) | 1× Shard of Dinraal's Horn + other materials |
Full Level 4 Flamebreaker (all 3 pieces) requires at least 3 Scales, 2 Claws, 1 Fang Shard, and 1 Horn Shard at minimum — plan for 6–8 Dinraal visits minimum.
Tips
- Flamebreaker full set is mandatory on Dinraal. Even with high armor, Dinraal's body heat deals environmental fire damage that bypasses defense without fire immunity. Don't attempt Dinraal without it.
- Death Mountain shortcut: The Goron City Skyview Tower launches you to Dinraal-accessible altitude directly. Ride the tower launch, glide toward Dinraal's path, and intercept mid-flight without climbing.
- Farm Eldin mines for Zonaite alongside Dinraal. The Eldin Depths (accessible through Death Mountain chasms) are rich in Zonaite — combine a Dinraal farming session with a Zonaite run for efficient double-yield.
- Horn Shards take 4+ real hours to stock. Budget your time — plan to farm Dinraal over multiple sessions rather than grinding a single session.
