Electric Lizalfos are one of the most dangerous mid-game enemies in Tears of the Kingdom. Their lightning breath and electrically charged bodies make melee combat punishing without proper preparation. This guide covers everything you need to defeat them efficiently and farm their valuable drops.

Quick Stats

| Stat | Value | |------|-------| | Habitat | Faron, Lanayru wetlands, Akkala coast | | Weakness | Ice arrows, non-conducting weapons | | Danger | Medium-High (shock damage) | | Key Drop | Electric Lizalfos Tail | | Variant Tiers | Blue, Black, Silver |

What Are Electric Lizalfos?

Electric Lizalfos are an elemental variant of the standard Lizalfos enemy family. Unlike their fire-breathing or ice-spewing cousins, Electric Lizalfos channel electrical energy through their scales and can discharge a wide-arc lightning breath attack. Any metal weapon, shield, or armor piece Link carries during the breath attack will instantly attract the bolt and deal double damage.

They are identifiable by their yellow-orange coloration with sparking scale patterns. They often patrol wetlands, riverbanks, and coastal areas — environments where electrical attacks have maximum spread potential.

Locations

Faron Region

The Faron wetlands are the most reliable Electric Lizalfos hunting ground in the early-to-mid game. Look for them:

  • Along the banks of the Floria River south of Faron Tower
  • In the shallow lake zones around Dracozu River
  • Near the Sarjon Bridge area where the terrain dips into marsh

Lanayru Province

Electric Lizalfos appear in several Lanayru locations, often mixed with standard Blue Lizalfos:

  • East bank of Zora's Domain lower pools
  • Lanayru Great Spring shallows
  • Mikau Lake shores
  • Upland Zorana rocky outcrops (rarer, usually Silver variant at high level)

Akkala Coast

A smaller population exists along the Akkala Citadel coast, particularly:

  • Rocky tide pools south of Akkala Citadel
  • North Akkala peninsula cliffside ledges

Sky Islands

Electric Lizalfos occasionally appear on Lanayru-aligned sky islands. These encounters are ambush-style — the Lizalfos drops from above when Link approaches.

Combat Strategy

Core Rule: No Metal During Lightning Breath

The single most important rule is to unequip metal weapons and shields the moment you see an Electric Lizalfos prepare its breath attack (it rears back and opens its mouth wide, sparks visible on scales). Switch to a wooden weapon and a non-metal shield. If you carry metal and get hit, you receive shock damage plus weapon-discharge damage simultaneously.

Opening Attack: Ice Arrow

Ice arrows are the Electric Lizalfos's hard counter. A direct hit freezes it for 4-6 seconds, completely disabling its lightning breath and leaving it vulnerable to melee follow-up. Two ice arrows defeat a standard Blue Electric Lizalfos entirely. Stock up at general stores in Zora's Domain or craft them by fusing Ice Keese Wings to arrows.

Melee Approach

If you lack ice arrows, approach from behind or flanking. Electric Lizalfos have a short rear blind spot — sneak up and land a charged attack (hold Y). The charged attack staggers them before they can reposition for the breath. After the stagger, combo freely with light attacks until they retreat into the water.

Water Awareness

Electric Lizalfos prefer to fight partially submerged. Their lightning breath conducted through water creates an electric field that damages Link even if the breath misses him directly. Fight them on dry ground whenever possible — use Stasis-adjacent tactics or arrow fire to draw them out of the water before engaging in melee.

Flurry Rush Setup

Dodge sideways (not backward) when they lunge at Link with their tongue whip attack. The tongue is their fastest physical strike and triggers Flurry Rush if you perfect-dodge it. Use Flurry Rush to deal burst melee damage safely without exposing yourself to the breath.

Drops

| Item | Drop Rate | Use | |------|-----------|-----| | Electric Lizalfos Tail | High | Fuse to arrows (Electric Arrow), sell | | Electric Lizalfos Talon | Medium | Armor upgrades (Thunder Helm, Rubber Armor) | | Electric Lizalfos Horn | Low | Elixir ingredient (Electro Elixir) | | Lizalfos Amber | Very Low | Cooking ingredient, sell |

Electric Lizalfos Tail — Primary Farming Target

The Electric Lizalfos Tail is the most valuable drop. When fused to an arrow, it creates an Electric Arrow with moderate shock damage and a paralysis effect on direct hits. These are particularly useful against metallic Construct enemies and in the Lightning Temple.

For armor upgrades: the Rubber Armor set (full shock resistance) requires Electric Lizalfos Tails at Tier 2 upgrades. Plan to defeat 15-20 Electric Lizalfos for a full Rubber Armor upgrade run.

Electro Elixir Ingredients

Electric Lizalfos Horns are used in Electro Elixirs (shock resistance). Combine with any critter (Hightail Lizard, Sunset Firefly) for a 3-star Electro Elixir that provides shock resistance for 8 minutes.

Variants

Blue Electric Lizalfos

Standard variant. Found in most Faron and Lanayru wetland locations. Health: moderate. Lightning breath is dangerous but telegraphed clearly.

Black Electric Lizalfos

Mid-tier variant. Appears after completing two or more Divine Beasts (or equivalent story progression). Faster breath animation and higher damage. Drops are the same but at slightly higher quantities.

Silver Electric Lizalfos

End-game variant. Appears after the final boss is accessible. Much higher health, faster all-around, and their lightning breath has a wider arc and longer duration. Wear full Rubber Armor (Level 2 minimum) and bring ice arrows.

Farming Route — Faron Efficient Circuit

  1. Start at Floria Bridge Shrine (fast travel)
  2. Head south along Dracozu River — 2-3 Electric Lizalfos on the east bank
  3. Continue to Sarjon Bridge area — 2 more near the bridge pylons
  4. Circle back through the Faron wetland shallows — 1-2 more
  5. Pass Blood Moon or use campfire to reset and repeat

This circuit yields 6-8 Electric Lizalfos Tails per run with a Blood Moon reset, taking approximately 12 minutes per loop.

Recommended Equipment

  • Armor: Rubber Armor (at least Tier 1) or Electro Elixir before entering their zone
  • Weapon: Wooden club fused with any non-electric material for safe melee
  • Arrows: Ice Keese Wing arrows (10-15 minimum per hunt session)
  • Food: Electro Elixir as backup if caught without Rubber Armor
