The Forgotten Temple is one of Hyrule's most ancient ruins, a massive structure buried in the Hebra region that predates the kingdom itself. It's filled with Guardian-like Constructs, environmental hazards, and exceptional treasure. This guide walks you through the entire temple.

Location

The Forgotten Temple is located in the northwestern Hebra region, west of the Tabantha Frontier. The entrance faces east and is partially buried in snowdrift. Coordinates: approximately -3526, 2898, 0166. The nearest Skyview Tower is the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower to the southeast.

Getting there requires either:

  • Traveling northwest from Rito Village on horseback
  • Flying from the Hebra Sky Islands directly overhead
  • Fast-traveling to the nearest shrine (Mayam Shrine is close)

What to Expect Inside

The Forgotten Temple is a long narrow corridor filled with auto-targeting Guardian Blade Constructs embedded in the walls. These shoot laser beams that track Link as he moves through the hall. The primary challenge is navigating the gauntlet without being destroyed.

The safest strategy: use the Paraglider to fly down the center of the hall at high speed, weaving between laser beams. Alternatively, approach along the side walls where some firing lines are blocked by rubble.

All Chest Rewards

The Forgotten Temple contains some of the best non-quest treasure in the game:

  • Multiple Korok Seeds: Several puzzles inside the temple grounds
  • Ancient Blades: Some of the most powerful weapon-fuse materials
  • Royal weapons: High-tier weapons in wall chests along the corridor
  • Barbarian Leg Wraps: The Barbarian Armor set leggings are here
  • Treasure at the end: The altar at the far end of the temple contains exceptional loot

The End Room

The innermost altar room has a large Goddess Statue and several high-tier chests. The room itself is peaceful — no enemies. Take your time looting everything. The atmosphere here is extraordinary — the architecture implies this was a place of worship far older than Hyrule Castle.

Side Quests Connected to the Forgotten Temple

  • Barbarian Armor Set: The helmet and chest piece require separate side adventure chains; the legs are here
  • Ancient Ruins survey: Some NPC side quests reference Forgotten Temple ruins
  • Korok seed collector: The seeds inside count toward Hestu's full collection

Dragon's Tears Connection

The Forgotten Temple is the endpoint of the Dragon's Tears quest — after collecting all 12 Geoglyph memories, Impa directs Link here for the 13th and final memory. The altar room at the temple's end is where this memory plays.

When the final memory plays here, the Glide Shirt becomes available in a chest at the altar — the Dragon's Tears quest reward. If you're visiting primarily for Dragon's Tears completion, the gauntlet hazards are just the price of admission to the altar room.

Coordinates for the altar room: Approximately -3526, 2898, 0166 (the altar at the northwest end of the main corridor).

Construct Gauntlet Strategy

The primary hazard is the embedded Construct turrets lining both corridor walls. Strategies:

Speed run (Paraglider): Launch from the entrance at high speed, maintain forward momentum, weave between laser beams. The turrets have a tracking delay — if you're moving faster than the tracking updates, you pass through the laser zone before it adjusts. Most effective with strong paraglider upgrades.

Side wall approach: The rubble and column ruins along both side walls provide cover. Move between cover points, waiting for laser cycles to complete before advancing. Slower but more reliable at lower levels.

Arrow snipe: Each turret Construct can be destroyed with 2-3 arrows. Sniping from the entrance with a high-power bow eliminates threats section by section. Time-consuming but completely safe.

Shield parry: Laser beams can be reflected with a shield raise at the correct timing — timing-intensive but fully counters the turret damage.

Barbarian Armor Completion

The Barbarian Leg Wraps are found in the Forgotten Temple chest midway through the corridor. The full Barbarian Set requires:

  • Barbarian Helm — found at a separate ancient ruins site in Akkala
  • Barbarian Armor — found in the ancient ruins at Lomei Labyrinth Island (northeast Akkala)
  • Barbarian Leg Wraps — here, in the Forgotten Temple

The Barbarian Set bonus at level 2+ is one of the best attack multipliers in the game — each piece adds attack up, and the full set unlocks a charge attack damage boost. Worth completing before end-game boss runs.

What the Temple IS (Lore)

The Forgotten Temple was a Zonai place of worship from the founding era. Its architecture predates Hyrule Castle by thousands of years — the internal design language matches the Depths ruins beneath it. The embedded turret Constructs were automated guardians placed to protect it from intruders long after its Zonai creators were gone.

The Goddess Statue in the altar room at the end (identical to those in Hyrule's shrines) suggests the Zonai adopted or shared the Hylian Goddess religion — or that Hylia's faith preceded the Zonai presence and they built around it.

Tips

  • Wear armor with high defense before entering — the Constructs deal serious damage at low levels
  • Bring arrows for sniping Constructs from range before flying the gauntlet — fully clears the path
  • The Depths directly below the Forgotten Temple contain related Zonai ruins worth exploring after clearing the surface temple
  • Visit at night for a dramatic atmospheric experience — moonlight through the ruined roof and the quiet of the altar room create one of TotK's most memorable ambient moments
  • Fast travel tip: After completing the Dragon's Tears quest here, the altar room has no shrine fast-travel anchor. Use the Mayam Shrine nearby for efficient return access.
