Geoglyphs Guide — All 12 Dragon's Tears Locations

Geoglyphs are enormous ground-level murals etched into Hyrule's landscape, each large enough to be fully visible only from the sky. There are 12 geoglyphs scattered across the surface map, and each one contains a Dragon's Tear — a memory orb that plays a cutscene revealing the story of Zelda's sacrifice. Collecting all 12 Dragon's Tears in sequence unlocks the game's true backstory and is required for the true ending.

What Are Geoglyphs?

Geoglyphs appear as massive symbols carved into the terrain — they glow faintly golden when viewed from above. Each geoglyph is associated with a specific region and takes the form of a creature, symbol, or abstract shape. They are part of the Dragon's Tears main quest chain, which begins when Impa investigates mysterious glowing tracks near Kakariko Village early in the main story.

Size: Individual geoglyphs span several hundred meters — you cannot see the full design on foot. Launch from a Skyview Tower or sky island and look down to spot the glowing outline.

How Dragon's Tears Work

  1. Find the glowing teardrop-shaped Dragon's Tear within each geoglyph (usually near the center or at a key point in the design)
  2. Interact with it to trigger a cutscene — one chapter of Zelda's memory sequence
  3. Tears can be collected in any order, but the memories are numbered 1–12 for the intended narrative sequence
  4. After collecting all 12, a final 13th memory unlocks — the conclusion of Zelda's story

All 12 Geoglyph Locations

1. Eldin Canyon — Dragon Face

Region: Eldin | Near: Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower

The first geoglyph most players encounter naturally. A large dragon head shape carved into the hillside northeast of Eldin Canyon. The Dragon's Tear sits in the eye socket area of the design. Fully visible from Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower after launch.

2. Akkala Highlands — Fallen Figure

Region: Akkala | Near: Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower

Located on the plateau east of Akkala Citadel Ruins. The tear is near the base of the geoglyph's primary vertical line. Glide northeast from Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower to spot it from above.

3. Lanayru Wetlands — Serpent

Region: Lanayru | Near: Lanayru Wetlands east of Zora's Domain

A serpentine geoglyph winding through the wetlands northwest of Zora's Domain. The tear rests at the serpent's head position. Best spotted descending from the Mt. Lanayru Skyview Tower.

4. Necluda — Flame Symbol

Region: Necluda | Near: Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower

Carved into the hillside facing the Necluda Sea. Visible from the Necluda sky islands above. The tear is at the topmost point of the flame shape. Approach from above via sky islands southeast of Kakariko.

5. Faron — Lotus

Region: Faron | Near: Popla Foothills Skyview Tower

A large lotus-like circular geoglyph in the Faron Grasslands. The tear sits at the center of the bloom. Best spotted from altitude after launching from Popla Foothills Skyview Tower — glide southwest and look down at the Faron plains.

6. Lake Hylia — Winged Figure

Region: Lake Hylia / Central Hyrule | Near: Lake Hylia northern shore

Carved along the Lake Hylia northern shoreline. The tear is at the figure's extended arm tip, accessible from the lakeshore approach or via glide from the Hyrule Castle area.

7. Eldin — Coiled Dragon

Region: Eldin | Near: Death Mountain lower slopes

A second Eldin geoglyph on Death Mountain's lower slopes, showing a coiled dragon shape. Flamebreaker armor required for the volcanic terrain. Tear is at the coil's center point — accessible after Yunobo's questline reduces Death Mountain hazards.

8. Hyrule Field — Eye

Region: Central Hyrule | Near: Lookout Landing

One of the closest geoglyphs to Lookout Landing. The eye design is partially obscured by Hyrule Field vegetation at ground level but clear from above. Tear sits in the pupil position — easiest to reach by gliding west from Hyrule Castle or south from Lookout Landing.

9. Tabantha — Wings

Region: Tabantha | Near: Rito Village / Tabantha Frontier

A large wing-spread geoglyph on the Tabantha Frontier plains. Tear is at the center point between the two wings. Spot it immediately after launching from Rito Village's Skyview Tower — the design covers the eastern Tabantha flatlands.

10. Gerudo Desert — Sands Serpent

Region: Gerudo | Near: Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower

Carved into the Gerudo Desert sands — the most visually dramatic geoglyph as the flat desert shows the design perfectly from above. Tear is near the serpent's tail tip. Reach by gliding from Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower heading southwest.

11. Hebra Snowfields — Crystal

Region: Hebra | Near: Pikida Stonegrove Skyview Tower

A crystalline geometric design in the Hebra Snowfields — partially snow-covered in heavy weather. Tear is at the crystal's apex point. Cold resistance required for ground-level exploration in this zone.

12. Lanayru Highlands — Teardrop

Region: Lanayru | Near: Lanayru Promenade / East Lanayru

The final numbered geoglyph, a simple teardrop shape in eastern Lanayru near the Promenade. Its minimal design stands out among the more elaborate others. Tear is at the droplet's lower point.

Tips for Finding All Geoglyphs

  • Skyview Towers are essential: Every tower gives aerial coverage of nearby geoglyphs — scan the terrain slowly as you descend after launch
  • Purah Pad Camera sensor: Set it to Dragon's Tears to detect the nearest memory orb when within range
  • Collect from the sky: After spotting a geoglyph from above, dive toward the glowing tear and interact before gliding away — no need to land on the full design
  • Order doesn't matter for collection: Tears auto-sort into the memory sequence in your Adventure Log
  • Return to Impa: After collecting multiple tears, speak to Impa for narrative context and hints toward remaining locations
  • No combat required: Geoglyphs have no enemies — visit any time without preparation

Rewards

  • 12 Dragon's Tear memories — Zelda's complete story of her sacrifice and transformation into the Light Dragon
  • 13th memory — the emotional conclusion, unlocks near the Light Dragon after all 12 collected
  • True ending prerequisite — all 12 memories required for the game's final cutscene
  • Story depth — the Dragon's Tears storyline is considered the emotional centerpiece of Tears of the Kingdom
