Malanya — The Horse God

Malanya is the patron deity of horses in Tears of the Kingdom. A giant, plant-like entity (similar in appearance to a Great Fairy but horse-themed), Malanya offers two services: reviving dead horses and upgrading horse stats. If your horse dies — knocked off a cliff, caught in a fight, or drowned — Malanya is the only way to bring it back.

Malanya's Location

Malanya's Fountain is located in Faron, south of Lake Hylia.

Coordinates: 4303, -3540, 0129

How to reach: Travel south from the Lakeside Stable or fast-travel to the Joloo Nah Shrine and head south. Malanya's Fountain is a large glowing pink bud surrounded by flowers at the end of a path in the southeastern Faron hills. You cannot miss it once you're in the area — it's visible from a distance.

Note: The fountain must be awakened before Malanya will emerge. Bring Endura Carrots as payment.

Awakening Malanya

Like Great Fairies, Malanya's Fountain is dormant when first found. To awaken her:

  • Payment: 1,000 Rupees (standard Great Fairy awakening price) — OR —
  • Contribution from the Stable Trotters (if you've progressed the stable questline) — the Stable Trotters will offer to partially fund the awakening, reducing your cost

After awakening, Malanya is always available at this location. There is only one Malanya in the game.

Malanya's Services

Service 1: Revive a Dead Horse

If one of your registered horses has died, Malanya can revive it. The cost is:

  • 1 Endura Carrot per revival

The horse is restored to full health and stats at the nearest stable. Malanya will ask which horse to revive if multiple are dead.

Important: You can only revive horses that were registered at a stable. Wild unregistered horses cannot be revived. If a horse you loved died before you stabled it — it's gone permanently.

Service 2: Upgrade Horse Stats

Malanya can upgrade the stats of any registered horse:

| Stat | Effect | Max Level | |------|--------|-----------| | Strength | Increases charge attack power | 5 stars | | Speed | Faster base movement | 5 stars | | Stamina | More spurs (sprint charges) | 5 stars |

Cost per upgrade: Varies by level — requires specific ingredients. Generally horse-related materials (Swift Carrots, Endura Carrots, Rushrooms for speed, etc.) plus Rupees.

Maximum a horse can be upgraded: A horse cannot exceed its natural stat ceiling by more than 1 point per stat. A horse born with 2-star speed cannot be upgraded to 5-star speed. Malanya's upgrades enhance within a reasonable range — find naturally high-stat horses first, then upgrade.

Best Horses to Upgrade with Malanya

To get maximum benefit from Malanya's upgrades, start with high-stat wild horses:

Top Wild Horse Locations

| Horse | Natural Stats | Location | |-------|--------------|----------| | White Horse | Strength 4, Speed 4, Stamina 3 | Safula Hill, west of Hyrule Castle | | Giant Horse | Strength 5, Speed 2, Stamina 3 | Taobab Grassland (southwest) | | Black Horse (rare) | Strength 4, Speed 4, Stamina 4 | Rare random spawn in Akkala/Eldin | | Mountain Doe | Strength 3, Speed 5, Stamina 3 | Satori Mountain area |

Best all-around upgrade target: The White Horse at Safula Hill. Register it, then use Malanya to bring its Speed to 5 and Stamina to 4 — this creates an extremely fast, responsive horse with the visual prestige of Zelda's white mount.

Endura Carrot Farming

Endura Carrots are the primary currency for reviving horses. Find them:

  • Satori Mountain — grows on the mountain slopes, especially around the Lord of the Mountain spawn point
  • Hyrule Ridge — small patches near cliffs
  • Stable Trotters Pony Points redemption — purchasable for points
  • Mekar Island — in the Akkala Wetlands area

Endura Carrots also serve as premium horse food. Feeding one to your horse before a long ride adds temporary stamina spurs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I revive a horse that died before I registered it? No. Only registered horses can be revived. Always register horses at a stable as soon as you tame them.

What if my horse fell into a chasm or Depths? If your horse died by falling into a chasm, Malanya can still revive it as long as it was registered.

How many horses can I register? Link can register up to 6 horses at stables at any time. If all slots are full, you must release a horse before registering a new one.

Is Malanya required for any quests? Malanya is not required for any mandatory quests but is involved in side quests related to the Stable Trotters performance troupe.

Does Malanya appear in Pony Points? The Horse God Fabric paraglider upgrade (available for 500 Pony Points) is named after Malanya and features her design. This is a separate item from the actual Malanya encounter.

Tips

  • Always register before riding into danger. Before any combat-heavy zone or deep-depths exploration, make sure your horse is stabled. A dead unregistered horse is permanently lost.
  • Endura Carrots at Satori Mountain. The mountain respawns Endura Carrots on a regular schedule. Farm a stock of 10+ to keep as revival insurance.
  • Upgrade speed first. Speed upgrades provide the most noticeable quality-of-life improvement for travel across Hyrule. After speed, upgrade stamina for more sprint charges.
  • The Giant Horse cannot have speed upgraded to match a standard horse. Its natural speed is low — use it for combat situations where its enormous Strength stat matters.
