Necluda Guide — East Hyrule's Most Accessible Region

Necluda is TotK's most beginner-friendly region — it borders central Hyrule and contains Kakariko Village, the Dueling Peaks, and a high concentration of shrines that are perfect for early-game upgrades. This guide covers both West and East Necluda, hidden secrets, and why this region deserves thorough exploration.

Why Explore Necluda First

Shrine density: Necluda has one of the highest shrine-per-square-kilometer ratios in Hyrule — perfect for early Light of Blessing farming.

Difficulty: Enemies in Necluda are beginner-friendly (mostly Red and Blue Bokoblins, no Silver enemies until late game).

Resources: Warm Safflina and Hyrule Herbs grow abundantly here. Opal deposits are common in the rivers.

Kakariko Village: Major questline hub with Great Fairy Cotera nearby and multiple side quests.

Kakariko Village

Kakariko Village is the cultural hub of the Sheikah and home to several important quests.

Key locations in Kakariko:

  • Cece's hat shop — fashion side quest chain (several episodes)
  • Nanna's house — elder with lore information
  • Farming area — a Hylian farmer NPC has a questline about crops
  • Goddess Statue — upper village area
  • Inn — sleep to pass time

Kakariko side quests:

  • Cece's fashion empire — multiple episodes of helping with a hat business
  • The Ring Ruins (visible on the cliff above) — side quest to investigate stone rings
  • Puddle Shed investigation — find missing materials
  • Hidden well below town — contains a unique NPC (Horned Statue connection)

Great Fairy Cotera: Northwest of Kakariko on the hill. First Great Fairy for most players. Requires Stable Trotters musicians quest to unlock.

Dueling Peaks

The iconic twin peaks straddling the road east from Hyrule Field into Necluda.

Dueling Peaks Tower

Climbing the tower gives you the Necluda region map and reveals all shrines.

Tower shortcut: Both peaks have Ascend access from their base crevices. Reaching the tower itself doesn't require full mountain climbing.

Shrines Near Dueling Peaks

5-6 shrines cluster around the Dueling Peaks area:

  • Nicohhah Shrine (Dueling Peaks south face)
  • Kyokugon Shrine (Dueling Peaks north face)
  • Tsutsuwam Shrine (East approach road)
  • Multiple Rauru's Blessing shrines in the river valley

Dueling Peaks Korok Seeds

Dense Korok seed concentration:

  • Acorn puzzles on tree branches (shoot the acorn)
  • Rock lifting puzzles near stream banks
  • Pinwheel matching puzzles (complete the ring of leaves)
  • Boulder on a pillar (match-set Korok)

East Necluda

East Necluda stretches from the Dueling Peaks to the Lanayru border.

Key Locations

Hateno Village: The tech hub of Hyrule. Contains:

  • Hateno Research Lab — Purah's base; central to the main quest telescope
  • Dye Shop — change armor colors for 20 rupees per piece
  • Bolson's housing project — decorating your house (furniture purchasing)
  • Farm district — animal husbandry side quests

Hateno Ancient Tech Lab (on the cliff above Hateno):

  • The upgraded Purah Pad features are researched here
  • Visit for main quest progression early

Lurelin Village (Faron border):

  • Coastal fishing village — partially destroyed at game start
  • Restoring Lurelin Village is a side quest chain
  • Beehaw's shop sells rare fish-based recipes

East Necluda Shrine Cluster

Strong shrine concentration in the rolling hills between Hateno and the coast:

  • 4-5 shrines accessible from Hateno Village area
  • Several Rauru's Blessing shrines (free Light of Blessing, no puzzle)

Mount Lanayru Approach (from Necluda)

The western approach to Mount Lanayru begins in East Necluda:

  1. Follow the river northeast from Hateno
  2. The trail climbs through the Spring of Courage area
  3. Cold temperatures begin at medium altitude — bring warm food or Snowquill armor
  4. Naydra the ice dragon flies this route regularly (visible from the Spring of Wisdom near the summit)

Necluda Collectibles Checklist

Shrines: 14-16 total across West and East Necluda (one of the higher regional totals)

Korok Seeds: Approximately 40+ across both sub-regions

Side Quests:

  • Kakariko Village: 5-6 active quests
  • Hateno Village: 4-5 active quests
  • East Necluda wilderness: 3-4 traveler quests

Lightroots (Depths): 6-8 beneath Necluda in the East Depths

Resources and Farming

| Resource | Location | |---------|---------| | Warm Safflina | Hillsides, especially near Dueling Peaks |

  • Hyrule Herb | Fields throughout West Necluda | | Opal | River deposits (Squabble River area) | | Hearty Durian | East Necluda forest areas | | Electric Keese Wings | Cave systems in East Necluda |

Hearty Durian note: Hearty Durians fully restore health + grant bonus hearts when eaten raw. They're hidden in East Necluda forest areas and are extremely valuable for emergency healing.

Quick Tips

  • Do Kakariko first — Kakariko Village has a main quest connection early. Don't skip it for open-world exploration. The Goddess Statue and Great Fairy here are critical for early upgrades.
  • Shrine density = Light of Blessing efficiency — Necluda's high shrine count makes it the best region for farming the 4 Lights needed for Heart/Stamina upgrades in early game.
  • Hateno dye shop — visit early, use it throughout the game. Armor aesthetics matter and 20 rupees per piece is cheap. Set your color scheme early.
  • Ring Ruins quest — the Kakariko Ring Ruins side quest connects to the Dragon's Tears storyline. Complete it early for lore context on the Sheikah discoveries.
  • Lurelin restoration — restoring Lurelin Village is a satisfying long quest chain. Start it whenever you're in the Faron/East Necluda area. It provides good rewards and a fully restored coastal village as a result.
