Resource Gathering Guide — Best Spots for Every Material Type
Resource Gathering Guide — Best Spots for Every Material
Running out of key materials is one of the most common friction points in TotK. This guide maps the best farming locations for every important resource category so you always know where to go.
Gems & Ore
Diamond
Best locations:
- Death Mountain volcanic caves (above Goron City altitude) — highest concentration
- Eldin Great Skeleton Cave — 5–8 Diamond nodes per visit
- Akkala Citadel ore deposits — 2–3 Diamonds per visit
- Any Marbled Talus defeat (ore deposit drop)
Sell value: 500 rupees each — most valuable gemstone. Only sell after confirming armor upgrade needs.
Ruby
Best locations:
- Eldin volcanic caves (below Diamond altitude) — Ruby is the most common Eldin gem
- Death Mountain crater rim area — dense Ruby nodes
- Igneo Talus defeat — Ruby is a guaranteed drop alongside the ore deposit
Sapphire
Best locations:
- Lanayru / Zora's Domain area caves — Sapphire appears in coastal caves
- Frost Talus defeat — Sapphire from ice ore deposit
- Necluda highlands caves — moderate Sapphire frequency
Topaz
Best locations:
- Necluda / Akkala cliff caves
- Thunder Talus defeat — Topaz from the ore deposit
- East Hyrule Field ore nodes
Opal
Best locations:
- Any Lanayru region cave (highest density — Opal is Lanayru's primary gem)
- Underwater ore nodes in Zora's Domain waterways (Zora Armor required)
- Lanayru river beds — surface ore nodes on riverbeds
Flint (ore processing fuel)
Location: Any ore deposit across Hyrule. Flint is the most common ore drop. You'll never run short naturally.
Food Ingredients
Hearty Durian (max heart food)
Best location: Faron jungle (southeast Hyrule) — trees with orange/yellow fruit visible from the road. Abundant on the jungle floor. Secondary: Vendor at Hateno Village sells Hearty Durian — stock 20+ when passing through. Season note: Durian trees yield 3–5 fruit per tree, respawn after Blood Moon.
Endura Carrot (best stamina food)
Location: Near the pink cherry blossom tree on Satori Mountain (west-central Hyrule, Aquame Lake area). 10–15 Endura Carrots per visit from all the plants around the base. Respawn: Respawns slowly — wait until Blood Moon for full reset. Don't over-farm. Secondary: Single Endura Carrots near some stables and in shrine chests.
Hearty Radish / Hearty Truffle
Location: Hyrule Ridge area (forest patches west of Hyrule Castle). Scattered but frequent.
Sundelion (Gloom healing)
Exclusive location: Sky Islands only — yellow fluffy flowers found on elevated sky island terrain. Best sky islands: Great Sky Island (original tutorial island) has 8–12 Sundelions. Any large sky island cluster has 3–5. Priority: Farm Sundelions on every sky island visit — they're only useful for Depths prep.
Mighty Banana (attack buff food)
Best location: Faron jungle (alongside Hearty Durian) — Mighty Banana trees are common in the tropical zone. Secondary: Beedle (traveling vendor at stables) sells them — buy 5–10 per stable visit.
Sunshroom (cold resistance food)
Location: Eldin volcanic cave entrances and warm areas. Also Rito Village surroundings at lower altitude.
Hydromelon (heat resistance food)
Location: Gerudo Desert region, Gerudo town market. Also near Spectacle Rock in Eldin.
Elixir Critters
Fireproof Lizard (Fireproof Elixir)
Location: Exclusively in Eldin region — cave exteriors and rock faces near Goron City. Farming tip: Check all rock faces and outcroppings approaching Death Mountain. 6–10 Fireproof Lizards per sweep.
Hot-Footed Frog (Hasty Elixir)
Location: Near water sources in warm climates — river banks in Faron, Necluda riverside pools.
Bladed Rhino Beetle (Mighty Elixir)
Location: Forest cave entrances in Necluda, Faron, and Lanayru woodlands. Day-active insect.
Rugged Rhino Beetle (Tough Elixir)
Location: Rocky cliff faces in Necluda and Akkala. Look for insects on dry stone surfaces.
Thunderwing Butterfly (Electro Elixir)
Location: Electric/thunder-prone areas — Akkala, East Lanayru near electrical rocks. Day-active.
Sunset Firefly (Sneaky Elixir)
Location: Night-only insect near water edges in forests (Faron, Korok Forest area, Necluda rivers). Only collectible after dark.
Cold Darner (Cold Resistance Elixir)
Location: Hebra snowfield area — flying insects near the snowfield edges.
Monster Parts (for Elixirs & Fuse)
Lynel Horns (Saber & Mace — highest Fuse bonus)
Farm route: Coliseum Ruins interior → Akkala Citadel Lynel → Central Lanayru Lynel → Zora's Domain approach Lynel 3 Lynels per circuit, 3–5 parts each = 9–15 Lynel parts per run. Blood Moon reset: All Lynels respawn — run the circuit right after a Blood Moon for maximum yield.
Gibdo Bone (+50 Fuse bonus)
Best location: Gerudo Depths (Depths below Gerudo Town) — Gibdo spawn in clusters of 4–6 in cave areas. 15–20 bones per 20-minute run. Secondary: Lightning Temple interior (during and after temple completion) — Gibdo appear throughout.
Hinox Guts (high-tier elixir booster)
Farm: Any Hinox (surface or cave). Fixed Hinox locations in Necluda and Akkala reset after Blood Moon. Black and Silver Hinox drop Guts more reliably than Red Hinox.
Bokoblin/Moblin Horns (common Fuse/elixir base)
Best: Any Bokoblin camp — they're everywhere. Silver Bokoblin horns are the highest tier. East Necluda and Eldin skull fortresses have high concentrations.
Special/Rare Resources
Star Fragment
Method: Clear nights, watch the sky for falling stars. Navigate to the impact crater (glowing light pillar). Can also drop from Silver Lynel tier enemies. Tips: Paraglide at night from Skyview Tower to see the entire sky and spot falling streaks from a wide viewing angle.
Dragon Parts (Horn, Scale, Claw, Fang)
Per dragon: 1 part per dragon per Blood Moon cycle.
- Farosh: Bridge of Hylia, 11pm nightly
- Naydra: Mt. Lanayru, morning
- Dinraal: Eldin Mountains area, morning
- Light Dragon: High altitude Central Hyrule, any time
See Dragons Guide for precise locations.
Ancient Blade (instant-kill Fuse material)
Location: Ancient Sheikah ruins and select treasure chests across Hyrule. Also drops from Guardian Stalkers (rare encounter in certain areas). Hard to farm consistently — use each one strategically.
Zonaite
Best farming: Central Depths mine circuit — start at Great Abandoned Central Mine Lightroot, mine all green ore in a 300m radius, kill Constructs encountered, repeat outward. Yield: 150–200 Zonaite per 30-minute session.
Resource Management Priorities
Tier 1 — Never sell: Lynel Horns, Gibdo Bones, Dragon Parts, Star Fragments, Sundelions, Endura Carrots
Tier 2 — Keep 20+ stockpile: Hearty Durian, Mighty Banana, Bomb Flowers, Brightbloom Seeds, Fireproof Lizards, Lynel Guts
Tier 3 — Sell excess freely: Common gems (Amber, Opal after upgrade needs met), Bokoblin/Moblin base-tier horns, Flint, Raw Meat
Quick Tips
- Blood Moon = farming reset — all enemies, ore, and ingredient nodes respawn. Use Blood Moons to re-run your favorite circuits.
- Stack items before armor upgrades — check what you need at the Great Fairy before going to farm. One organized trip beats five disorganized ones.
- Beedle stocks are underused — Beedle sells Mighty Bananas, Endura Carrots, and Bug-type ingredients at stables. Buying from him during normal travel adds up.
- Depths for Zonaite, Surface for Gems — don't try to farm both at once. Efficient runs focus on one resource category at a time.
- Photo recognition — take Compendium photos of critters and insects early. Sensor+ can then ping for them by type during sweeps.
