Fastest Rupee Farming Guide — Getting Rich Efficiently
Rupees are constantly in demand — armor upgrades at Great Fairies, horse registration, purchasing armor sets, upgrading the Energy Cell, and buying consumables. This guide ranks the fastest Rupee farming methods and explains which to prioritize based on your current progression.
Rupee Value Tiers
Before farming, know what sells for what:
| Item | Sell Price | Acquisition | |------|-----------|-------------| | Diamond | 500 | Talus drops, ore nodes, chests | | Topaz | 180 | Ore nodes, enemy drops | | Ruby | 210 | Ore nodes, enemy drops | | Sapphire | 260 | Ore nodes, caves, Frost Talus | | Opal | 60 | Ore nodes (most common gem) | | Amber | 10 | Ore nodes (sell freely) | | Flint | 5 | Ore nodes (sell freely) | | Large Zonaite | 40 | Depths, Flux Constructs | | Hinox Toenail | 12 | Hinox kills | | Lynel Guts | 70 | Lynel kills |
Rule: Keep Diamonds, Sapphires, Topaz, Ruby for armor upgrades. Sell Amber, Flint, surplus Opal, excess regular Zonaite.
Method 1 — Ore Node Mining (Best Passive Method)
Rupees per hour: 800–1,500+
Ore nodes (sparkly rocks) throughout Hyrule drop gems. Smash every ore node you see with any club/two-handed weapon.
Best mining areas:
- Death Mountain / Eldin Canyon — highest ore density in the game. A full Death Mountain circuit yields 20–40 ore nodes with multiple gem drops.
- Akkala Highlands — second-highest density. Eastern Akkala cliff faces are packed with ore nodes.
- Hyrule Ridge caves — cave ore nodes respawn on Blood Moon. Efficient indoor farming.
Mining weapon tip: Fuse any rock/mineral material to a club = "Rock-Fused Club." Use this as your dedicated mining weapon — it doesn't waste better weapon durability.
Sell: Amber (10R), Flint (5R) — sell all of these freely. Keep Opal (60R) for armor upgrades (Great Fairy requirements).
Method 2 — Talus Kills (Best Early-Mid Game)
Rupees per circuit: 600–2,000+
Stone Talus drops 1–3 gems per kill, including Diamonds (500R each) from harder variants.
Best Talus circuit:
- Activate the Shrine Sensor → look for Talus markers on your map (large enemy icons)
- 5–6 Talus kills per circuit
- Marbled Talus (hardest surface variant) drops the best gem rewards including Diamonds
Talus kill speed: Use Shock Arrows on the ore node (glowing spot on its back) to stagger immediately. 3–5 arrows = Talus down = gems drop.
Reset: All Talus respawn on Blood Moon. Run the circuit, wait for Blood Moon, repeat.
Method 3 — Cooking and Selling (Best Mid Game)
Rupees per cook session: 400–1,000+
Cooked food sells for significantly more than raw ingredients. The cooking-to-sell strategy:
Best cooking-for-sale recipes:
- Monster Stew (any monster parts + meat) — each meal sells for 50–150R depending on meat quality
- Spicy Sauté (5x Spicy Pepper) — sells for 40R, peppers are free to gather
- Fish dishes with Hearty Bass — sells for 100–200R
- Any 5-ingredient meal — more ingredients = higher sale price regardless of type
The math: 20 Spicy Peppers gathered from Death Mountain base → cook into 4 meals → sell for ~160R. Takes 5 minutes.
Method 4 — Selling Weapons (Best Late Game)
Rupees per session: 1,000–3,000+
Late-game enemy drops include Royal Weapons (base attack 36–41) worth 200–600R each from some merchants. More importantly:
Rock Octorok weapon repair: Find a Rock Octorok (in Eldin Canyon, near ore nodes). Let it inhale your worst weapon → it spits it back out repaired AND upgraded. Sell the upgraded weapon for more than the original.
Depths weapon cache: Some Depths areas have weapon chests with Royal-tier or better weapons. Collect and sell surplus high-value weapons you don't need.
Method 5 — Luminous Stone Trading (Best Consistent Method)
Rupees per trade: 5R per stone → but traded to the right NPC for diamonds
In Zora's Domain, an NPC (Ramella) trades 10 Luminous Stones for 1 Diamond (500R). Luminous Stones sell for only 5R each normally.
The math: 10 Luminous Stones × 5R = 50R normally. Traded to Ramella = 1 Diamond = 500R from any merchant.
Luminous Stone farming: They glow softly in caves and ore areas. Akkala and Necluda caves have good density.
Note: After the first trade, Ramella requests 10 more in another trade — check if she'll repeat the offer. This is a once-per-some-condition trade.
Method 6 — Lurelin Village Casino (Early-Game Fast)
Rupees per session: Variable (gambling)
The Lurelin Village has a betting mini-game. After restoring Lurelin Village (post-pirate quest), you can bet on a chest selection game:
- Bet 100R → pick the correct chest → win 300R
- Net gain: 200R per win
House odds: ~33% win rate. Short-term gains are realistic; long-term it averages out. Use this for quick rupee boosts early game, not as a primary farming method.
Blood Moon Optimization
All ore nodes, Talus, Hinox, and enemy drops reset on Blood Moon.
Maximize output by:
- Running a full farming circuit (Eldin ore → Talus → sell)
- Rest at a campfire until Blood Moon
- Repeat the circuit immediately after
Triggering Blood Moon faster: Stay active in the world (fighting, exploring, cooking). The game triggers Blood Moons based on activity, not just time. Passive resting doesn't accelerate it.
What NOT to Sell
Keep these — they're worth more as upgrade materials than as cash:
- Dragon parts (Dinraal/Farosh/Naydra Scales, Fangs, Claws, Horns) — extend elixir duration, irreplaceable
- Star Fragments — armor upgrade material for 4-star upgrades
- Lynel Guts/Hooves/Horns — required for 4-star armor set upgrades
- Ancient Materials — needed for specific Depths upgrades and trades
