Sensor+ Guide — Track Anything in Hyrule

Sensor+ is one of the most powerful quality-of-life tools in Tears of the Kingdom. Once unlocked, it turns your Purah Pad into a directional tracker for any photographed item, enemy, or material in the Hyrule Compendium. Instead of wandering hoping to stumble onto what you need, Sensor+ guides you straight to it.

Unlocking Sensor+

Sensor+ is unlocked through Robbie's research questline at Lookout Landing.

Steps:

  1. Complete Camera Work in the Depths to unlock the Camera function
  2. After returning to Robbie, he begins upgrading the Purah Pad
  3. Complete the follow-up quest A Trip Through History — Robbie asks you to visit specific ancient ruins and photograph Zonai structures
  4. Return to Robbie with the photos — he installs Sensor+ as part of the upgrade sequence

Note: You need Camera unlocked first. Sensor+ is the second Robbie upgrade.

How Sensor+ Works

Once active, Sensor+ monitors your surroundings for a targeted Compendium entry.

To set a target:

  1. Open Purah Pad (- button)
  2. Navigate to Sensor+
  3. Browse the Compendium categories
  4. Select any photographed entry as your active target

Feedback system:

  • A gentle pulse tone plays periodically when you're in the general area
  • Tone frequency increases as you get closer
  • At very close range, rapid beeping indicates the target is nearby
  • No directional arrow — it's proximity-based, so you need to move and listen

Range: The sensor works across a wide area — typically several hundred meters on the surface. In caves or the Depths, range may be reduced.

Best Sensor+ Targets

Dragon Parts

Setting Sensor+ to any dragon body part turns it into a dragon flight path tracker. Useful for:

  • Farming Dinraal, Naydra, Farosh, or the Light Dragon
  • Knowing when a dragon is looping nearby so you can intercept from a Skyview Tower

Rare Gems

  • Diamond — Set to Diamond and sweep through cave networks; beeping intensifies near gem deposits
  • Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz — Same approach; saves time versus random ore breaking

Bubbulfrogs

Bubbulfrogs are nocturnal cave creatures that appear only at night inside caves. Setting Sensor+ to Bubbulfrog helps confirm whether a cave contains one before you dive in during daylight hours.

Golden Frogs (Farosh's Scale area)

Golden frogs near Lake Hylia and Faron respond to Sensor+ — track them for their materials if you're farming.

Specific Monster Materials

Need Lizalfos Tails for armor upgrades? Set Sensor+ to the Lizalfos type that drops the color you need and the sensor will point you toward the nearest camp.

Sensor+ in the Depths

The Depths lack natural lighting landmarks, making navigation difficult. Sensor+ becomes critical there for:

  • Zonaite deposits — set to Zonaite or Large Zonaite
  • Poe locations — set to Poe and sweep the area around Lightroots
  • Specific Depths enemies — Frox, Flux Constructs, Boss Bokoblins

The sensor works underground but may have a shorter effective range due to the dense terrain.

Sensor+ vs. Map Markers

Sensor+ is best for moving targets (dragons, creatures) or scattered resources (gems in caves). Map markers are better for known fixed locations (shrines, Lightroots, stables).

Use both together for maximum efficiency:

  1. Mark your intended region on the map
  2. Set Sensor+ to the material you want before entering
  3. Sweep the area, following the audio cues

Compendium Photos for Sensor+

Sensor+ only works on entries you've photographed (or purchased a photo for). If you want to track something specific:

  • Photograph it in the field, OR
  • Buy the photo from Robbie for 100 Rupees

Priority purchases for Sensor+:

  • All dragon types (to track them)
  • Rare gems (diamond, sapphire, ruby)
  • Bubbulfrog (for cave farming)
  • Any monster whose drop you need for a Great Fairy upgrade

Investing 1,000–2,000 Rupees in Robbie's photo shop early pays back many times over in saved farming time.
