Akkala Span Shrine
Akkala Span Shrine — Proving Grounds: Combat
Location: Akkala region, near the Akkala Ancient Bridge spanning the East Reservoir Coordinates: (3918, 1256, 0142) Type: Proving Grounds — Combat Trial Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Akkala Span Shrine is a Proving Grounds combat shrine — Link enters with all equipment stripped and must clear waves of Bokoblins using only the weapons and materials found inside the arena. The Akkala bridge setting carries into the shrine design: open stone platforms with gaps, elevated positions, and limited space. Players who complete Akkala Span emerge with confident melee combat fundamentals and a bonus understanding of Fuse-weapon improvisation under scarcity conditions. The chest inside contains a high-quality Akkala weapon worthy of the effort.
Preparation
- No gear prep needed — all equipment is removed on entry
- The shrine provides bows, arrows, and melee weapons on material shelves inside
- Full hearts recommended — Proving Grounds damage is real and unmitigated by armor
- Elemental knowledge helps: Electric weapons stun Bokoblins; Fire weapons apply burn
- Strong melee fundamentals: dodge → flurry rush, shield parry, charged attacks
Walkthrough
Wave 1: Basic Bokoblins
Two Blue Bokoblins with clubs at medium range. The material shelf near the entrance has a Boko Club and a Wooden Shield. Grab the shield, equip the club. Shield-block the first Bokoblin's swing → trigger a flurry rush. Repeat on the second. Two basic melee Bokoblins go down in under 30 seconds with clean parries.
Wave 2: Armed Bokoblins
Three Bokoblins — one with a Boko Bow (ranged), two with swords. The archer is the priority: rush it first before it establishes range. A bow on the shelf provides one shot — use it for a headshot on the archer. Melee the sword Bokoblins with the same flurry rush pattern.
Wave 3: Bokoblin Captain
A Black Bokoblin Captain with a Spiked Boko Club and a Rusty Shield. This Bokoblin has double HP and performs overhead attacks with stagger frames — dodge sideways not backward (sidestep dodge triggers flurry rush for overhead attacks). The Captain's shield blocks frontal attacks — feint, sidestep, flurry. Three flurry rush windows are enough.
Bonus: Fuse the Provided Materials
Two rooms have material shelves with Bomb Flowers, Keese Eyeballs, and Stones. Fuse a Stone to the Boko Club for doubled impact damage. Fuse a Keese Eyeball to an arrow for homing shot capability. Proving Grounds rewards improvisation — don't fight barehanded when fused weapons are available.
Step 5: Altar
All waves cleared, the final gate opens. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest contains an Eightfold Blade — a razor-sharp sword that deals bonus damage on consecutive hits.
Tips
- Sidestep dodge (not backstep) triggers flurry rush on overhead attacks — the Captain uses overhead swings
- Bomb Flowers found on shelves: throw at groups for AoE stagger before engaging melee
- If HP is low after Wave 2, use a stamina plant from the shelf to restore between waves
- The shrine resets on exit — re-enter to try again if the run fails, all resources respawn
- Akkala Span's combat pattern (shield → parry → flurry) is the core loop for all overworld Bokoblin camps
