Angaku Shrine
Angaku Shrine — Electric Conductivity Puzzle
Location: Lanayru Region, Zora's Domain approach Coordinates: 2891, 0512, 0195 Abilities Required: Ultrahand Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium — electric circuit puzzles
Overview
Angaku Shrine is a Lanayru-region electric conductivity shrine — metal objects bridge electrical gaps between glowing blue nodes to activate door mechanisms. Three progressively harder rooms build on the same core mechanic: metal conducts electricity, wood and stone do not. The shock hazard is real — touching any active metal circuit deals continuous electric damage and may stagger Link. Completing Angaku gives you deep intuition for all electricity-based puzzles in Hyrule, including Thunder Temple mechanics and Lynel-arena electrical traps.
Location Details
The shrine sits in the Lanayru lowlands on the approach road to Zora's Domain from the south. From Zora's Domain fast travel, head south along the main canyon road — the shrine is visible to the right before the main waterfall crossing. From Lanayru Promenade, head north into the canyon. The area has Electric Lizalfos camps; either fight through or detour around them to reach the shrine.
Preparation
- Remove all metal armor and weapons before entering — wearing metal armor while touching the active circuit deals continuous shock damage. Switch to Rubber Set, Rito Tunic, or any non-metal armor before entering.
- Ultrahand required for all circuit puzzles.
- Bring non-metal weapons (wooden club, stone-fused weapon) for the approach in case of Electric Lizalfos combat.
Detailed Walkthrough
Room 1 — Basic Circuit Bridge
- The first room has two glowing blue electrical nodes separated by a gap of approximately 2 meters.
- A rectangular metal block rests near the left wall.
- Use Ultrahand to grab the metal block. Do not let the block touch you while it's powered — the circuit hasn't activated yet.
- Position the metal block so it touches both nodes simultaneously — bridging the gap between them. The block must contact both node surfaces.
- When both nodes are bridged, a low-pitched hum plays and the first gate opens.
- Stand back from the block as the circuit activates — a brief electric pulse runs through the metal. Link takes shock damage if adjacent.
Room 2 — Three-Node Chain
- The second room has three nodes in a row with two gaps between them: Node 1 → gap → Node 2 → gap → Node 3.
- Two metal blocks are available — one per gap.
- Bridge Gap 1 first: Position Block A between Node 1 and Node 2. Confirm the connection.
- Bridge Gap 2 second: Position Block B between Node 2 and Node 3. Block B must touch both Node 2 (already live) and Node 3 (not yet powered).
- When Block B connects, the full three-node circuit completes — the second gate opens.
- Critical: As you position Block B, the metal Block A is already electrified. Don't let Block B's Ultrahand path drag it through Block A — route around it.
Room 3 — Chest Access Circuit
- A side room to the right has a chest gate activated by a short two-node circuit.
- One small metal plate is available. Bridge the two nodes in the chest's side room — the gate opens briefly.
- Enter quickly and collect the Treasure Chest — common contents: Knight's Broadsword, Zonaite Sword, or Thunder Fruit bundle.
- Return to the main path.
Room 4 — Moving Node Puzzle
- The final room has one node on a track that moves left and right on a slow cycle. The stationary node is fixed on the wall.
- Place your metal block on the floor between the two nodes' closest approach positions.
- Watch the moving node's path: As it slides toward the stationary node, your bridge block intercepts it — completing the circuit when the moving node contacts the block's surface.
- The gate opens during the connection window. Sprint through immediately — the moving node continues its cycle and the gate closes again.
- If you miss the window: simply wait for the next cycle. The moving node returns predictably.
Altar Chamber
Proceed through the opened final gate. Interact with Rauru's statue for your Light of Blessing.
Chest Location
The treasure chest is in the Room 3 side alcove — bridge the two-node mini-circuit to open the alcove gate briefly. Enter quickly before it closes.
Tips
- Metal armor warning: This is the most important shrine to remember non-metal gear. The Rubber Set's shock resistance doesn't prevent damage from direct circuit contact — only non-metal clothing helps. Equip the Hylian Tunic, Climbing Gear, or any non-metallic armor.
- Fuse trick (outside shrines): In overworld electrical puzzles, you can attach metal objects to arrows and fire them to bridge distant nodes — this technique doesn't work inside the shrine but is invaluable in the Thunder Temple.
- Moving node timing: In Room 4, position the block before the moving node reaches it — don't try to place it while the node is mid-approach. Set the block at the midpoint between the two nodes' closest positions, then let the moving node come to you.
- Wooden shields: Equip a wooden shield before entering — it doesn't conduct electricity and won't shock you if a circuit activates near it. Metal shields act as circuit bridges if dropped near nodes.
- Shock Fruit activation: Outside the shrine, Shock Fruit fused to arrows can activate electric nodes from range — useful in similar overworld puzzles near Lanayru towers and Zora's Domain Depths.
Region Context — Lanayru
Angaku Shrine is in the Lanayru lowlands — a series of river canyons below Zora's Domain. The region has frequent rain and several natural water channels that conduct electricity between enemies. Electric Lizalfos are common here; their attacks shock anyone in standing water. The Depths below Lanayru contain Lightroots and significant Gloom-pool hazards. Completing Angaku Shrine adds a Lanayru fast-travel point that's useful for all three Lanayru Depths access points.
