Daqa Shrine
Daqa Shrine — Heat and Hazard
Location: Eldin Region — Death Mountain lower lava fields Type: Combat Shrine — Environmental Hazard Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) — Medium Coordinates: 1624, 2952, 0405 Required Ability: Combat proficiency Reward: Light of Blessing
Overview
Daqa Shrine is an environmental combat trial set in a lava-hazard arena — not just a straight fight, but a fight where the terrain is as dangerous as the enemies. The arena floor is riddled with lava pools that deal instant death on contact, and the Bokoblin enemies are positioned and scripted to push Link toward those edges. Players who charge in without reading the arena first will die to the environment more often than to the enemies. The core lesson: control the fight's geography before the fight begins.
Preparation
- Flamebreaker Armor (1+ pieces) recommended — prevents fire damage from lava edge splash and heat proximity; does NOT prevent instant-death lava contact, but reduces chip damage near edges
- Decent weapon (20+ attack) — the Bokoblins here have moderate HP; a weak weapon extends the fight and increases positioning risk
- 3+ healing meals — carry more than you think you need; one lava edge stumble wastes a heart or two
- Fire Arrows or Fire Fruit — optional but useful for ranged engagement across lava pools
Arena Layout
The arena is a multi-level stone platform system with lava pools filling the gaps. Safe footing exists on:
| Zone | Description | Notes | |------|-------------|-------| | Entry Platform | Large flat stone, ~6m × 4m | Safest zone; start here | | Mid Ledge | Narrower elevated stone, bridged by rock spine | 1m wide at narrowest | | Side Alcoves | Two small platforms flanking the main arena | Chest access, crossbow range | | Altar Platform | Rear elevated zone, separated by lava channel | Goal; enemy patrol path |
Enemy roster: 2 Red Bokoblins + 1 Blue Bokoblin (slightly higher HP and damage). The Blue Bokoblin patrols near the lava channel separating the mid ledge from the altar platform.
Walkthrough
Phase 1: Survey Before Engaging
Do not run in. From the entry platform:
- Observe all three Bokoblins' patrol routes — they move predictably in loops
- Identify the lava pools and narrow stone bridges between platforms
- Identify the side alcoves to your left and right — one contains the shrine's chest
Take 10 seconds to build a mental map before drawing your weapon.
Phase 2: Clear the Entry Platform — Red Bokoblin 1
The nearest Red Bokoblin patrols the entry platform's far edge:
- Draw it toward you with a ranged shot (arrow or rock throw) — it aggros and charges
- It's now on your terms, on your ground, with lava behind it (not behind you)
- Use a 3–5 hit melee combo; Flurry Rush on its charge opener ends it quickly
- Watch your backstep direction — the entry platform's edges border lava; always sidestep, never backstep
Phase 3: Clear the Mid Ledge — Red Bokoblin 2
The second Red Bokoblin patrols the mid ledge's narrower stone spine:
- Engage from the entry platform with ranged fire — a 2–3 arrow headshot sequence stuns it or defeats it without requiring you to chase it onto the narrow ledge
- If going melee: cross the rock spine carefully, then fight on the widest section of the mid ledge only. Avoid backing toward the spine's narrow section.
- Environmental opportunity: If you can maneuver the Bokoblin near the spine's edge, a timed shield bash knocks it off into the lava instantly
Phase 4: Clear the Altar Platform — Blue Bokoblin
The Blue Bokoblin is toughest and patrols near the lava channel:
- Do not cross the lava channel until you've defeated both Red Bokoblins — fighting all three simultaneously is the shrine's primary kill vector
- Use arrows from the mid ledge to engage the Blue Bokoblin at range — it takes 4–5 arrow hits
- The lava channel crossing is a narrow stone bridge (1.5m wide) — cross it carefully after the Blue Bokoblin is hurt, and finish with melee on the altar platform's open stone
Chest — Side Alcove
After all enemies are defeated:
- Check the left-side alcove off the entry platform — it's accessible without crossing any lava if you walk the perimeter
- The chest is on the alcove's stone shelf
- Contains a Spiked Boko Shield or Bomb Flower cache (loot varies by game progression)
Altar
Walk to Rauru's statue on the altar platform and collect your Light of Blessing.
Chest Summary
| Chest | Location | Contents | |-------|----------|----------| | Entry-level alcove | Left side of arena, perimeter walk | Spiked Boko Shield or Bomb Flowers |
Tips & Strategy
- Geometry wins fights: Maneuver Bokoblins so the lava is behind them, not behind you. This turns the environment from a threat into your weapon.
- Shield bash into lava: A perfectly timed shield bash (while blocking a Bokoblin charge) staggers them — if they're near a lava edge, the stagger causes them to stumble backward into the pool. One-shot kill regardless of HP.
- Flamebreaker edge protection: The Flamebreaker Set's Flame Guard prevents fire damage from the heat haze and edge splash of lava pools — you won't take chip damage from standing near a pool edge. This lets you position aggressively near edges without health bleed.
- Lava-proof disclaimer: Flame Guard does NOT prevent instant death from stepping directly into lava. The protection is for ambient heat and splash, not contact. Treat lava surfaces as instant-death regardless of equipment.
- Bokoblin aggro range: Bokoblins have limited detection range. You can neutralize them one at a time by staying near the entry platform and drawing only the nearest one at a time. Never run deep into the arena.
- Eldin efficiency: Daqa Shrine is in the same thermal zone as Magda, Kihshe, and Disisan shrines. Equip Flamebreaker and clear all four in one run.
Required Abilities
- Combat proficiency — basic melee (3-hit combos, dodge, Flurry Rush) is sufficient; no Zonai abilities required
