Goma Asagh Shrine — Soldier Construct III Trial

Location: Eldin Region — northern Death Mountain slope, above the lava fields Type: Combat Shrine Difficulty: Hard Reward: Light of Blessing + Treasure Chest

Overview

One of Eldin's hardest combat shrines. Goma Asagh pits Link against a Soldier Construct III — the strongest tier of construct enemy, equipped with an elemental spear, a tower shield, and a ranged energy-orb attack. This is not a beginner fight; come prepared with attack-up meals, strong Fuse weapons, and at least 10 hearts.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Assess the Soldier Construct III

Enter the arena to find a Soldier Construct III stationary in the center, shield raised and spear at the ready. It holds its tower shield toward you at all times in its guard stance. Direct frontal attacks bounce off the shield and may stagger you. Do not rush.

Step 2: Identify Its Weaknesses

The Construct has three openings: its back (unshielded), its weapon arm when it commits to a thrust attack, and a brief vulnerability window after it throws its spear. The spear throw has a one-second windup animation — use that window to sidestep and close distance.

Step 3: Bait the Spear Throw

Stand at mid-range (about 8 meters). The Construct will eventually telegraph a spear throw by raising its arm and glowing briefly. Sidestep right immediately, then sprint toward its now-unshielded body. You have approximately 1.5 seconds to land hits before it recovers and raises its shield again. A two-handed Fuse weapon's strong attack during this window deals excellent damage.

Step 4: Flank the Shield

Circle to the Construct's side while it is in guard stance. It tracks you slowly — get to its flank (90 degrees from its facing direction) and attack the weapon arm. Several hits to the weapon arm break its spear, leaving it defenseless and confused for 2–3 seconds. Use this window for a full melee combo.

Step 5: Energy Orb Phase

When below 50% health, the Construct adds charged energy orb attacks to its pattern. These blue orbs travel straight at you and deal 3 hearts of damage. Deflect them back with a Perfect Parry (tap shield just before impact) — a deflected orb stuns the Construct for 4 seconds, your longest vulnerability window of the fight. This is the ideal time for your strongest attack combination.

Step 6: Claim the Treasure Chest and Light of Blessing

After defeating the Construct, a side chest unlocks containing a Royal Guard's Spear (50 attack — one of the best spears in the game). Collect it, then proceed to Rauru's altar for your Light of Blessing.

Ability Requirements

  • No special shrine abilities required
  • Bows recommended for initiating combat safely

Hidden Chest

Royal Guard's Spear (50 attack) — unlocks after defeating the Soldier Construct III.

Tips

  • Attack-up meals: Cook Mighty Bananas + any meat = Mighty Meat (attack +1). For maximum boost: Mighty Bananas x5 = Mighty Gourmet Meat (attack +3, lasts 3 minutes). This difference matters significantly against a Soldier Construct III's high HP.
  • Spear throw window: The throw's windup animation is 1 full second — a long window. Sidestep right (not left — the Construct's throwing arm is left-dominant and the spear curves slightly right on throw), then sprint directly toward its back.
  • Perfect Parry timing: For the energy orb deflection, raise shield (ZL) and tap A the instant the orb contacts the shield face. The orb visual turns white when parried correctly. This takes 2–3 attempts to calibrate — the timing is consistent once learned.
  • Weapon arm break shortcut: If you have a flail-type or heavy hammer weapon, 4–5 hits to the construct's right weapon arm breaks the spear directly without needing to bait the throw. This skips Phase 2 and goes directly to the defenseless window.
  • Bomb Arrow opener: A bomb arrow to the Construct's back (any exposed surface, not the shield) deals 3× base arrow damage and stuns for 3 seconds — the strongest single opening move in the fight. Save 1–2 for the opener and use the stun for heavy attack chains.
  • Flamebreaker for approach: The overworld path to Goma Asagh on Death Mountain's upper slope requires Flamebreaker Armor 2+ or Fireproof Elixir active. Inside the shrine the temperature is neutral.

Nearby Points of Interest

  • Goron City — southwest; Flamebreaker Set shop, Yunobo questline, cooking for Mighty Meat and attack meals
  • Death Mountain Summit — north; highest elevation, ore deposits (Diamond, Topaz), Lynel encounter
  • Eldin Tower (Skyview) — west; regional map tower for all of Eldin
  • Disisan Shrine — east; second Eldin combat shrine accessible from the same Flamebreaker-equipped run
  • Daqa Shrine — southeast; lava arena combat shrine; clear both in one Eldin run
