Gunkatak Shrine
Gunkatak Shrine — Downhill Race
Location: Hebra Mountains, northwest Hyrule Ability Required: Ultrahand Difficulty: Medium — ice sled navigation puzzle
Overview
Gunkatak Shrine is a sled race puzzle set on steep icy slopes inside the shrine. You build a sled from wooden boards and guide it through narrow channels of ice, avoiding walls and landing on target platforms. Physics-heavy, fun, and surprisingly tricky on tight turns.
Preparation
- No combat
- Takes 8–12 minutes (multiple attempts likely)
- No special gear — shrine is temperature neutral
Walkthrough
Run 1 — Basic Sled
- Two wooden boards are available. Use Ultrahand to attach them flat, creating a wider sled.
- Set the sled at the top of the ice slope and sit on it — the sled launches down the slope.
- Steer with Ultrahand mid-ride: Grab the side of the sled while riding and tilt it left or right to steer around the channel walls.
- Land on the blue pressure plate at the bottom — the gate opens.
Run 2 — Turns and Gates
- The second slope has left and right turns and a narrow gate partway down.
- Build your sled again from the boards in the room.
- Steer left at the first turn, then right at the second, threading through the narrow gate.
- Land on the pressure plate at the run's end.
Run 3 — Ramp Launch
- The third slope ends not with a pressure plate but with a ramp — you need to fly off the ramp and land on an elevated platform.
- Build the sled, ride down the slope, and at the ramp, lean back (tilt the sled back slightly with Ultrahand) to angle the nose up — this increases your air time.
- Land on the elevated platform and walk to the altar corridor.
Altar
Collect your Light of Blessing.
Chest Summary
| # | Contents | Location | |---|----------|----------| | 1 | Diamond | Run 2 — after the second turn, the chest is on a side shelf visible through a gap in the channel wall. Steer the sled hard right into the gap to reach it. |
Tips
- Sled width matters: A wider sled (two boards side by side) is more stable on turns. A narrower (one board) is faster but wobbles more. Wider is usually safer.
- Ultrahand steering: You can steer the sled while riding by grabbing the left or right edge with Ultrahand and tilting. Small inputs = small steers. Don't over-rotate or you'll flip.
- If you crash: Walk back to the top of the slope — the boards reset to the start of the room. You can rebuild and retry indefinitely.
- Ramp launch angle: Tilt the sled nose-up at the ramp to get maximum air. If you launch flat, you'll slam into the platform wall instead of landing on top.
- No fans needed: Fans on sleds are tempting but unnecessary here — the slope provides plenty of speed naturally.
